2015/2016 Brides Roll Call & Random Thoughts :-)

Random thought…why are the women on theknot.com so crochety??? They have a lot of info and post more often about wedding related matters than here, but they are so nitpicky and extra. One woman is policing how folks word their invitations, telling them "there's no purpose to list that the groom is "son of…"" Um, the purpose is to include the groom's parents, so that they are mentioned as well. Nowadays, when a mix of people are contributing to the wedding, the old rules don't apply as much. Hot mess.

The people on The Knot are super sticklers on etiquette and have no problem ripping folks a new one. I can always tell by the title of thread that they are about to go in! I'm usually on Wedding Bee; they are way more easy going. I just wish the African American boards were more active. I love munalunchi but their weddings always look way out of my budget. I enjoy oooohhhing and awwwing over the pics though.

They are obnoxious about etiquette and a variety of other things. One lady made a generalization about men and a mod went in on her. Kinda ridiculous. See, I should probably check out wedding bee. I enjoy munaluchi as well but they don't have forums I think.

There is a lot of great info there but I only lurked, never posted. They are really nasty over there. :nono:

Very nasty. I posted once asking other brides if their FHs were as vocal as mine about certain elements of the wedding. I was questioned up and down and even asked why I was marrying him. SMH. Since then, I lurk mostly and post only occassionally. And it's a lot of frumpy White woman snark, which I can't tolerate. :nono:

I think a lot of them just get a kick out being mean. I notice that a lot of them have been married for years but they are still very active on that board telling brides-to-be how wrong they are about everything. It's like, why are you posting on these boards every single day when you are no longer planning a wedding?

Ya, and when people call them out on that, they get very defensive. I didn't expect theknot with its well maintained website and overall media presence to have such a snarky board. I'm surprised it is not moderated more heavily.

Well, my wedding invites will say "son of…." b/c my parents will be on my invite (my mom's request) and I don't want FH's parents to feel left out of being on the invite.

I lurk weddingbee. I like it sometimes

Order this dress from lulus.com for my bridesmaids. I only bought 1 cause I want to test it to make sure I like it and one bigger boobed gf can fit it. I am hoping it works out because I want to check this part off my list. I also didn't want them spending a ton of money on a dress since we doing destination. Going to pair these with barefoot pearl barefoot sandals. I just hope its long and flows/drapes nicely.

Just wrote down a list of all the things I need to do. and Wow.. Getting it on paper eased my anxiety but my list is huge!! I am at the 5 month mark so I need to get it together. It's crunch. I told my maid of honor yesterday I am kinda over planning.

Congratulations to everyone!!! Are you all usin g wedding planners or DYI?

Since I am doing destination my venue has 2 planners. I just send them what I want and they magically make it happen.

I am also diying certain things like my boarding pass invitations, I am also toying with diying my welcoming bags. But all decor will be handled by my decorators in the DR

We picked a date of April 9, 2016. I'm excited. We have already started planning. Alot of the planning was in my head already as I knew what I wanted and he is OK with my plans. We have a very limited budget ($3500). I't doable with a lot of planning and work. So far we have:

1. Secured the Photographer who is giving me the "family" rate.

2. Decided on the honeymoon. Going to be a near by (about 45 minutes) Bed and Breakfast - That was his assignment

3. Picked the colors - Purple and tangerine and silver - Going for a Harlem Reinsurance Theme

4. Picked my maid of honor

5. Have a possible venue, going to look at it tomorrow.

I had my engagement party on Sunday. All my coworkers were mad because I didn't take many pics. I'm good though because our family and friends ate well and had a good time.

Midly freaking out. I am five months out and the bridesmaids dresses I want I read will take 4 months to come in! I'm praying this is not true. My appt is on Sunday for them to try dresses. I hope this all works out.

Oh and I estimated 60 people would come to our destination wedding and here I am with a guest count of almost 100. Wtf!!! Now I have to figure out how to pay for all these folks lol. Smh. I am so anxious all I can do is laugh to keep from crying

Newly engaged (as of yesterday evening). Haven't selected a wedding date yet.

Congrats! Just enjoy this time. We didn't set our date till like two months later.

lmao. girl my guest list is out of control too.

Updates:
Still have a ton to do but the major stuff is done aside from the rehearsal venue and the groomsmen clothing. Now I have to focus on the nitty gritty details (which I'm so bad at) like the linens, the sequence of the night, etc. My invitations hopefully will come in by early June so I can spend some time addressing them and then sending them out.

That sounds about right for bridesmaids dresses. You can rush order them if you need to.

I hated shopping for bms dresses. Ugh!

I purchased our flights last for a crazy deal! 2 tickets for 770! Ish is getting really real!

Relatively newly engaged (Fiance popped the question about a month ago). Wedding is set for Aug. 2016 and I am trying to slowly plan things even though my type A personality wants me to get everything done right now.

^Congrats!!

I have like less than 6 months to go and wow time is really flying. I have not been in the gym smh. So much to do.

And I agree picking out bridesmaids dresses is hard. It was a lot harder than picking out my dress.
