Super Growout Challenge ***Update Month 1***

I'm checking in. So far so good.:woot: I've noticed that my hair is condtioned properly and I am taking my time. I've been wearing more protective styles besides buns (like wigs, phony-ponies, weaves, etc). No Heat at all. :nono: Thanks to Carlie's journal, I found out the right and proper way to trim my ends. :yep:

Please add me to the challenge. I've been wearing box braids since around Dec. 23rd, and plan to have the redone during spring break (2nd week in March). I shampoo every week or so with Dr. Bronner's Pepermint soap, and I've been using Minoval twice daily, and surging somewhat consistently. So far, I have about 3/4 inch of new growth if not more.
Will do!! Good Luck!

Everything is going great. My hair has grown about 2 inches and I am almost 9 weeks post of a relaxer. I am still following my weekly regimen and everything is going ok.
Wonderful to hear!! Girl, you got a lot of newgrowth! :yep:

Checking in

My hair is looking healthier than ever since I trimmed about an inch off of it. I am also being consistent with the surge and I will try to have some pictures up in the next few weeks (no digital cam:ohwell: )

Good luck everyone
Yay!! Can't wait to see the pics!

I'm still going strong. I've been consistent washing 2-3 times each week, moisturizing every night, cholesterol treatment once ea. week, and 24/7 baggy. I haven't been consistent with my vitamin or carrot juice challenges mainly because I'm doing the Master Cleanser fast (day 7 :D !). I will begin those two challenges next week (15 weeks for the carrot juice challenge). I don't know how long my hair is. I'll post updated pics when I get a touch up in June.

peace,
mzjones
Well, consistency is the key! Keep up the good work!! good Luck on the fast. That's a tough one!

I'm doing okay. I got a trim last month, but I'm stilling have trouble with airdrying. I can't stop my ends from frizzing up. Sunday I did a decent airdried rollerset for being 12 weeks post relaxer.
Keep trying I am sure you will get this airdrying thing down pact with pratice!

So far so great. I just permed my hair after 9 weeks..The longest I every went. I am following what I said I was going to do....PROTECTIVE STYLES, CO-WASH, VITAMINS AND BEST OF ALL NO HEAT (ok i broke 2 times, but it was new years)...I wanted to push my braid for 2 whole months, but only ended up doing a month..then came back to braids and did it for 2 weeks...Had weave in for 2 weeks....and sprayed with surge...at least 3-4 times a weeks, but around the last 2 weeks I stops surging it made my hair dry. I just put new comparison photos up...and man I see the difference..Everyone is in love with my hair. I am going to leave my hair out for 1 maybe 2 weeks...and it is right back to braids....

Hey Ladies!

I'm checking in. I have tried to be consistent with my regimen. I have been pretty good. I am currently trying to decide whether or not I should get a big cut now or wait for a few months. We'll see.

Take care!!!!
Great!! Keep us updated on the big cut.

well im very happy. i did ANOTHER trim abour six weeks ago (1-2 inches) and im proud to say most of it has GROWN BACK!! im down with lunar trimming, which means ill be trimming tomorrow. ive learned my lesson, that i need a regimented trim schedule in order to prevent a mess.
i havent been washing as much as id like, thanks to our broken showerr filter. i know washing in our hard water is the path to damage for me.
ive been using honey and water as a leavein and shea butter of kemi pomade to seal. my hair feels lush and healthy.
ive stopped on the vitamins since i detoxed a couple weeks ago. i will cut out MSM because it made my curl looser and in turn, frizzier. i will keep it arouund for joint pain.
im not measuring, but so far so good!
Sounds like you have everything under control! Keep up the good work!

I had a minor set back, but I think I've solved it. I had bit of breakage following a second Aphogee treatment in a month (silly me trying to get my hair super strong). But I've giving my injured locks TLC with daily CO washes and moisutizing conditioners (no protein), and my breakage is just about gone. I do like my length, I'm not sure weather I've grown much in the last month as my hair is texturized near the roots. But it feels longer:lol: .
Sorry to hear about the breakage but I know you have to knowledge to get your hair back to optimum health!! Good Luck!

Shellzfo checkin up in this mo fo! Check me in cause i'm here! I don't know why my hair grows so slowly because I take vitamins and try to drink water. I don't know, but I'm feeling a little newgrowth (not enough to measure though) and my scalp is starting to get sore. I trimmed my ends all over two weeks ago and only use two daily products. Mizani Rose Water and Design Essential Oils. I also bought Aphogee Reconstructor for breakage/strength and I could tell a hell of a difference. I also learned that washing my hair several times a week, well, ain't working. I will wash my hair every two weeks. Also, at the beginning of March, I plan to get microbraids.
   Do what you know is best for your hair. It will work out just fine!!

I guess I’m making okay progress, but I have decided not to officially measure my hair for a while, until I get it straightened for my graduation in May. Until then I will visually track my growth.

Unfortunately I kinda dislike my hair at the moment b/c it never looks right, but it will get better eventually. Being 11 months post-relaxer can be a pain sometimes.:ohwell:

Your hair has definitely grown. I know for me if I take too many length pics I feel like I am not making progress even though I really am.

I'm really late, but I am checking in. I saw we could check in any time during the month, so I breathed a sigh of relief and decided to wait for a good comparison shot. I will edit this post and post them before the month's end. I Surged through all of last month, and I have decided that for three weeks between every relaxer touchup (so every three months), I will Surge consistently. I am being consistent with my vitamins (partly because of the Vitamin Challenge, but I feel confident that even once it has ended, I will remain consistent because I am now in a routine). I guess that it's for me...still bunning, drinking enough water, and CO washing. Actually, I could increase my water intake--I am now at 48-64 ounces daily...I'd like to be at 64-80. I will work on this for next month.

Great to hear!! Your hair is looking might "fine"!

Hi Ladies,

I am checking in...late..but still checking in. I am doing pretty good. I have been surging for the month of January..my water intake has not been as great as I want. I have started back up with my vitamins for the month of February so my water intake will be increasing aswell. I will try real hard!!!!

That's it for now.

Just checking in. I've been sticking to my regimen, it needs to be tweaked a little so that I can eliminate all of the breakage that I am getting. For the most part I think that I am doing well. I haven't gotten a trim in a little while, that's the only other thing that I need to do.

Checking late also. Still sticking with the hair regimen. I just need to get back on the water bandwagon. So far so good. No complaints.

I have been doing quite well. I am now wearing the kinkly twists with extentions that I plan to wear until May. My regimen is very simple. I surge every 2 days, and grease 3x a month. I cleanse my scalp once a week( Sunday). My goal is to simply get as much growth as I can:)
I plan to incorporate vitamins and more green veggies into my diet. I finished the Amino Fuel, and I will not rebuy.

I need some encouragement because I have not been sticking to my hair regemin. everytime my hair gets past my shoulders I get discouraged thinking about the what if's like what if it doesn't get any longer? I know it might sound funny to some but it is a big problem for me!!!!!!!

You sound just like me a few years ago. I would get to shoulder length and get discouraged and cut my hair off! Now I am on my way to brastrap length for the first time in my life. Do you know why? Because I never speak defeat.

Sometimes it can be hard sticking to your regemin. It may because you are sick, busy with work or school, maybe even the family and your children. You may find it hard to squeeze in any time for yourself let alone squeeze in time to care for your hair. In these cases this is when we need to keep our haircare to a minimum. In these times I cut my hair washing down to once a week or even sometimes once every 2 weeks. I keep it bunned up for an entire week at a time and then wash on the weekends.

You may be self consciously trying to not let your hair grow any longer because you are afraid of the unknown. It may sound silly but it's kind of like going to some foriegn place you have never visited. You may try to talk yourself out of going because you won't have fun, you won't understand the language, you won't like the food etc. It's the same concept with hair. You think, how am I going to look with longer hair, will I be able to care for it, what are others going to think etc.

I know that this can be done. Every lady on here who have reached their goals proves that it can be done. I have had my trails and tribulations and have made it this far.

Simplify your regemin, maybe even get braids for a couple of months and just let your hair be for a while. It will suprise you by growing stronger and longer.

Good Luck to you!!

Thank you so much I think I will simpify my regimin. My hair is not strong enough for braids my hair texture is so funny I really don't Know what it is maybe I'll post a picture to get some opinions. you are also right about the time thing I am in the middle of moving and a new mom who is in school. :ohwell: I guess it will eventually work out.

It will work out :yep: :yep: You do have a lot on your plate. Take care of yourself.

checking in...very late... but so far so good.
I had to stop the baggie method challenge due to bad shedding. Somehow I always managed to get my wet hair tangled in the ponytail elastic. I'm still addicted to Tressamme CW - it's done wonders for adding more curl to my hair. I've also started braiding my hair during the night, in lieu of the baggie, and have found that it makes my hair feel softer and retain more moisture than the bun.

I've posted my comparison Jan and Feb shots below.

It's a little hard to see how the first month went as I had a ton of newgrowth. I'm back on the fresh fruit smoothies with carrot juice, have been more consistent with my Freeda Biotin daily. I surge every day now consistently as I fell off the bandwagon, I want to see how much growth I can get from Surge 1 month after my touch up. I feel very positive about the next 10 months. I've changed the way I eat without even realising. My diet is a hell of a lot better. I'm eating more protein rich foods like salmon and tuna on a daily basis, I've cut out tea and coffe (basically anything containing caffine) I drink a caffine free South African tea. Have switched from Cow to Soya Milk. I've upped my water intake from zero to one glass (at least a day) OK I know it not much but I'm starting slowly. I drink Prune juice, carrot juice and OJ. I try and stay from processed foods and red meat. Hopefully my diet will have a great effect on my hair as well as all the topical treatments.

Good Luck to all for the next month.

I am checking in also........ a little late......Things are going good....
I wanted to post comparison pictures but, could not get the size right:wallbash: and I ran out of time to do so:swearing:
Next check in I will have a comparisons pictures for sure....
I am keeping up my routine... doing some surging and other oil tonics... and also doing the bun challenge 4 days a week.....
Fighting some shedding... But I am doing better than I was last year at this time....

At the moment my hair is not doing so good but it could be worse, I guess!

Ever since I took out my braids which I had in for approximately 14 weeks, the ends have just felt really dry. I have been shampooing & conditioning every week and this has become a real task and never used to be. At the moment I am applying vaseline to the ends to keep them soft. I feel like throwing my Motions conditioner and cream of nature shampoo into the trash can as they are making my hair feel stringy at present. I think I will just stop using them for now!

Anyway, I have stopped using my Surge hair revitaliser much to my dismay because the ends of my hair are so dry at the moment.:nono:

I just trimmed off about 1/2" off my ends a few minutes ago. I feel a lot happier as the ends don't feel so crispy. *big sigh*:ohwell:

It's snowing here and that does not help matters:mad:

My saving graces at the moment are Sahara single bible hair cream (yep it contains mineral oil but it also contains a lot of beneficial stuff for my hair and so I dug it up) and Soft and Beautiful Hair Moisturising Complex conditioner, which has made it easier to comb, tangle free and soft once again. Oh, the surge powerwash has helped too.

I haven't been taking my vitamins consistently either (yes, I have been bad). I currently have lots of new growth and that also is giving me some horrors:eek:

Maybe next month I will have better news ladies:)

Baileyscream,
19 weeks, how in the heck did you pull that off?????

Oh, that was a typo. I will go back and correct it.

I stretched my touch-up for 19 weeks. I had my braids in for approvimately 14 weeks and had new growth of about 5 weeks before that. I kept meaning to take them out but people kept saying they still looked good and neat, so I just left them. Madness!

The braids were put in Oct 2nd 2004 and I took the braids out 2nd or 3rd week in January 2005.

To make matters worse I shampooed the braids every week I had them in so the ends are very very dry.:ohwell:
