♥~♥ SINGLE MOTHERS SUPPORT THREAD! ♥~♥

So I'm new to this site and have been clicking around literally all day (it's addicting! lol) but when I saw this post I had to come see what it was all about... I am a single mother and full-time Active Duty military member. I didn't get a chance to thumb through all 74 pages of this post so I'm not sure if there are others here like me... (being in the military I mean) Being a parent can be difficult... being in the military can be difficult so I live a "can be difficult" life... however I have learned so much throughout this journey. It is not a path to be pitied, but one of strength, growth, commitment and dedication to both yourself and your child. On the days that it gets hard, one look into those glistening eyes is all I need to pull it together and go back out there another day. I hope that doesn't sound cliché or cheesy, but for me it is the God's honest truth. I am so glad I found this post because having a support group and others who truly do understand what this life can be like helps more than words can explain. So keep pushing and movin' on up! :)
Welcome and thanks for your service!! :bighug:

How old is your little one?

I cant imagine being active duty and single mothering it. Whew! You must have nerves of steel and a fantastic support group or both :)

Hope to hear more from you soon!

Hey girl!!! :)
Love the warm welcome! :giggle: My little one just turned 5 2 wks ago... such a ball of endless energy-- if I could just transfer some of it to me I'd be alright lol :) Being in the military takes a lot of patience because there are a lot of people in who just don't understand that my time and devotion must be split between duty and parenthood. I saw on here that one of the other ladies got some flack for having to bring her child into work due to flaky babysitters... I've been there too... I've had one sitter physically abuse and starve my child as an infant while I worked 12 hr shifts... I've been called back from deployments and many nights I have cried... but you know what... my little one is worth it all. All the difficulties and stress, she is worth it all because as good parents we invest so much time and effort into our children and in the end when they grow up to be independent functioning adults of society and become greatness that is when we as mothers see our greatest return on investment. So I am, in turn, keeping my eye on the prize and praying that our children blossom to their fullest potentials, remembering there mothers as the strong, independent, beautiful, radiant, and unstoppable women that we are!

Welcome! I admire your strength. I wanted to be a military RN for the air force. And thank you for your service! I hope you come here and find it just as supportive as I do!

She is having a crazygrowth spurt the last 6 months. Im buying yet another set of clothes and she's burned through 3 pairs sneakers. This is getti g very costly! I been hitting up the sales and everything but still.

Also real annoying is i buy her clothes and as she says they "drift" over to her father's house and disappear. He doesnt do laundry but maybe 1 or 2x amonth. By the time they get back to me theyre almost too small or too small already and they have to get tossed. So at my place it looks like she has 2 pairs of jeans and 3 socks but in his laundry basket theres her other 10 pairs!:pullhair:

he gets pissy when i say let me come take some and I'llI'll wash them. He then insists he will wash and another week or 2 goes by. Meanwhile im buyinh her more clothes just to have them drift over and disappear again! :swearing:

Tell her father to buy her some clothes. Next time she visits him, let her carry nothing but the clothes on her back.

OR

Nag him everyday about getting her clothes back to you.

Get a dry erase clip board and have her make a check list of the stuff she should come home with.

I agree with this if she goes with just that pair then he'll be forced to do some laundry or buy new clothes without you having to nag or ask. And if he has an issue with that explain to him that she already has clothes from the previous visit. :)

Ya'll are right. And she would forget

As for asking him to buy hermore clothes, i did that and he agreed... 6 weeks ago :ohwell: he's impossible.
But don't stress about that. Do what you need to do at your house. let him figure that out. When he gets tired of her looking a mess, he will do something about it. Don't nag that man. He has to figure out how to parent just like everyone else. This is coming from someone on both sides of the coin. My SO has clothes and shoes here for his child. My brother has joint custody, so he has things at his home as well. This way it's not stressful on the everybody trying to pack bags and remember items. My children only see their other parent once in awhile, so I pack a bag.

WHOOO HOOO! 2 down 1 to go! My son (the one with special needs) graduated 6/3! He did it. I swear I thought I was gonna be a snotty mess. But I made it through without crying. Till the last moment, when they were doing the processional, I was right on the end and he stopped and hugged me and said Ma I love you so much! :cry2: :cry2: I was done. Had all the people in the row behind us rubbing my back trying to comfort me. Yall just don't know. This boy couldn't even walk or talk till he was almost 3 years old.

Thanks a lot ladies! Yup, my middle son. He's going to start out at the local community college and study physical therapy. He wants to help other kids like him.

That is awesome! He sounds just like me! I wanna get into OCT. I applied and got accepted into the pre program, but I had to get my financial aid straight first. My friends and family keep telling me to go into pyschology, but there isn't any money in that. If I do, I would be in school forever to get a Ph.D. In that.

Ok ladies, my baby girl is starting to go through the early stages of puberty... I'm not ready for her to grow up! She is my little girl! I have been having all sorts of talks with her about her physical and emotional changes that she is having. She got some cute little training bras. I thought about getting her an electric hair trimmer, once she really starts getting some hair under her arms. How do I teach her about shaving her legs? She is autistic, and can be hard to stay focused on things. I just don't want her growing up to be some smelly, hairy woman! :lachen: I can wax her (I'm a professional) but I don't think she will want to do that.

Mine to :cry3: but not quite ready for a training bra yet.

As for shaving we've already begun waxing her... upper lip... :ohwell: po chile taking after her father's side :nono: we will start with the legs this summer but i will shave them the first few times to show her how. I am also considering one of them epi shavers that pull the hair out so we dont have to worry about knicks and cuts from a manual razor

My youngest told me next time he goes to the barbershop he needs some extra money for his shave. :lachen: :lachen:
He's 13 and there's nothing under there to shave!

@DarkJoy i recently began epilating my legs and I love it. I would suggest getting the legs waxed first to make epilating WAY less painful. I was stubborn and simply used the epilator every day for three days in a row to pluck all the hair out to begin, and it was painful. Now I use it every 4-5 days and because hair grows in phases, there's not that much hair to pluck and I can barely feel it.

I wish my mom had taught me how to epilate as opposed to having to shave every day.

Epilate!! Thats what its called! Lol. Thanks! Can that be used for underarms?

Dd is unphased by face waxing so im confident she can handle the first few epilatings. Fortunately for me my legs need shaving maybe 4x a year-just like on my head my body hair grows sloooooow. Dd doesnt have that gene. Its a blessing and a curse i suppose.

You were lucky your mom even showed you to shave! Mine didnt bother. Doing better by my little one

Yes! It can be used for underarms, legs, arms, bikini area, wherever. They even make some for the face if that's easier than waxing her upper lip.

I will admit that I'm 26 and too scared to use it on my underarms, so I still shave that area. But my legs are looooong and hairy, so epilating has saved lots of time and water.

I'm using the Braun silk epil 9. It came with a lot of unnecessary attachments (for me). I used the beginner massage head for two sessions and then moved on the regular head once I got used to the sensation. It can be used wet or dry but I use it dry.

I've also heard good things about Phillips epilators, but Braun seems to be the industry standard. I see a lot of men use Braun shavers so I figure they know about hair removal.

My research into epilating said it was important to find one with a lot of tweezers so that you could get more hair in one pass.

Thank you very much! The Braun is in my cart.
