♥~♥ SINGLE MOTHERS SUPPORT THREAD! ♥~♥

I haven't done any school shopping yet since my DD doesn't start school until Sept. I currently have her @ day camp and she will spend time with relatives in Aug so I have an entire month off, YES! I'm getting ready to get crochet braids installed so I don't have to think about my hair for at least 2 months and trying to lose 15 more lb. (already lost 20).

Planning a trip with my sis and girlfriends in a few weeks and going to an '80's party so I'm trying to get my look together-not sure if I want to go with the Jody Whatley/ Janet Jackson look or go for the late '80's look with the asymmetrical hair, door knockers, 3- finger ring, African medallion look. I would love to get DD in martial arts but I'm determined to get her braces (Invisilign) so I have tread the money train carefully.

Last but not least, I'm slowing rebuilding my websites to earn passive (hopefully main) income and I want to start socializing more and start again but don't know a good place to start- I'm so dang rusty! 40 is around the corner and I need to do something to shake things up, I'm getting to complacent and I'm too young for that!

Wow. Having trustworthy relatives to send your dd to... you are INCREDIBLY LUCKY! That is nonexistent in my world. Hope youre counting that massive blessing ....

Now you have me curious about this passive income bit. Have fun on your trip!

A lot of transitioning going on in my life right. It's positive, but it's a lot to take in all at once. Please pray for strength and endurance for me. I'm very tired. Like physically tired. I drink a lot of coffee to keep moving.
Take care of your health so you can enjoy all that positivity! Can you make smoothies? I've found they really pack a wollop of an energy punch and there's no caffeine crash.

Do you ladies recall the incident I had at my son's last school where I went off on some woman for blocking the handicap parking space? So yesterday, at my son's summer school, I noticed ppl blocking the sidewalk wheelchair ramp (or whatever they call those little dips) with their cars. Since it didn't effect me directly, I made a call to the school this morning before school to voice my concern, because I could see something like this eventually effecting me directly. I wanted to start off being civil before someone forced me to put on my enraged mommy cape.devil:

Well, by the end of the day, they had placed four big ol' orange cones in front of the dip two cones deep effectively blocking the area from traffic! I felt like a dang rock star pushing my son's wheelchair through that :auto::auto: big ol' open space :auto::auto: between the long line of cars waiting at the curb! :D It was like the Red Sea had parted.

It's always these small gestures that mean so much and make life easier to navigate. If someone had told me 20 yrs ago that orange cones would give me life, I would have thought they were nuts. I'm so glad I didn't have to act a fool about, too.

I just discovered (good for every mom).....

The electric pressure cooker!!!!
ElectricPressureCookers.jpg

I make three days of meals on sunday (half the time lol) in a few hours. I have the model pictured but it feels a little janky. It works tho... works great!

Hard dried beans fully soft and cooked in 15 mins!! no overnight soaking!! Roast I havent tried but apparently less than an hour for small ones. Right now im making lots of veggie soups, meat chilli, and stews to last a few days. I make Thing One. 20 mins and done. Wash the cooker. Pop in Thing Two. Another 20. Done. While those percolate, i am usuaaly making breakfasts in advanced (boiled eggs n sausage, fruit salads, bfast burritos etc).

AMEN PRAISE GOD AND BLESS THE COOK

SN: All that chopping fresh produce is making me irritated. Need a modern fix it for that now. suggestions?
Can we just...can we just have a moment of silence in praise for the Goddess of Modern Convenient Appliances: the electric can opener, Blendtec, microwave, dishwasher and washer and dryer?

I just realized how much I owe my sanity to all these wonderful, wonderful things!

I see that I am going to have to be hard on my oldest. He needs a plan to leave. He is not "grown" even though he just turned 21. He thinks he can stay out, go out and I don't know where he is, ignore my calls and texts and give me attitude when I tell him to do something. It's time for him to go. :cry3:

And my youngest lately has asked me 50-11 times when I'm getting married. Dammit heck if I know, if I will ever get married.

Aww sorry hes giving you so much trouble :bighug: im not the mother tto a grown son, so maybe not the best advice but. ...

I know it feels bad but if he thinks he's ready to be grown and be a man and if hes disrespectful and not pulling his weight around the house (like chores and helping with the others) then its time. Best for you and him in the long term.

However if hes not truly disrespectful and has a job and/or is in school (and not coming home inebriated ) and not negatively influencing the younger ones then maybe cut him a little slack. Hes exploring life and legally grown... hard to put the brakes on a "grown" man and cut the apron strings. Thats the hardest i think.

However if he IS distespectful and badly influencing the others, well. time to go. Best for relationship long term.. If hes employed then all you can do is guide him on saving for his first apartment and be there as an advisor.

It will be ok.

Thanks sis. It's not that we are beefing or fighting or things like that, but I don't want it to get to that point. He does have a job (just started) and is working on a more permanent position, but his attitude sucks. I definitely am not putting him out tomorrow, but he needs to be working toward that. And I'm not gonna tolerate him being disrespectful.
I always had them on a pretty tight leash (I have three boys and I wasn't going to have them ruling my house over me) so I demanded a lot of things from them. I think he thinks that he is a certain age now and the rules don't apply to him anymore.
He's in for a rude awakening.

Thank you ladies. I will look into the smoothies. I started making them at one point.
I have a crock pot. I really need to look into some recipes. I will be starting a new job soon

don't be too hard on him! Lol i remember going through that with my mother. I think if the two of you sit down, like adults, talk and come to a meeting of the minds about the household, respect, etc..., it will work out. My mother and I didn't do that. We got into a big argument, and I moved out 30 days later. I was gone for two years. I came back, we sat down and talked and things were much better. She treated me like a young woman, and I was able to understand and respect the ground rules for the household. I went to college, I worked, I have her money,etc... I didn't really eat there, but I cleaned up after myself, kept my room cleaned, cleaned the bathroom I used. I didn't bring people to her house. I would call if I wasn't coming home. She stopped asking where I was. She just didn't want to worry. She needed to hear I was ok.

And my mother didn't have to worry about me. I didn't hang with the wrong crowd, I didn't do drugs, drink, and engage in reckless behavior. So if overall, you got a good, decent young man under your roof, talk to him. He might not be grown, but he is an adult.

My poor child has eczema on the back of his knees that looks like something from a sci fi movie. Now I have to give him a bleach bath in addition to topical medication. Anyone else have experience wth bleach baths?

I'm not going to lie...I am Sick and Tired of all this medication. I feel like I have it growing out of my ears. Now I have to give the boy 3 baths a week until this mess clears up: 2 bleaches and one normal. I feel another meltdown coming. I wonder if my neighbors think I'm crazy for all the screaming that comes out of this apartment. lol

On a positive note, my boy had roast chicken for the first time in his life and he ate it all up! I had to grind it up in the Blendtec, then mix it with mayo and pickle relish. Reminded me of that stuff I ate as a kid with the devil on the can. I was so glad he liked it! It's hard cooking for a five year old who can't chew his food...and who is extra picky about what he eats. Next time I'll grind up some chicken breast. So excited!!!

I'm tired boss... I need some coffee. It's late afternoon and I still have a lot to do. Ladies if you have any recipes on smoothies/healthy drinks for energy, let me know! Just got a lot on my plate right now, and really can't hand it off to anyone. But I got my support though. My family and close friend have really been there for me with helping me move forward and get back into the 9-5 life! This is crazy! I gotta pay a million dollars for childcare, just so I can work those hours. And I don't get off exactly at the time! So I gotta pay for extra transportation and pay for extended hours... I'm just giving my check away.

Like I said, it's after 4pm... I still got a lot to do. I'm tired boss.

Have you checked to see if you qualify for any financial aid towards daycare?

Smoothies are easy. Most are based on personal preference. My morning smoothie consist of chocolate almond milk, spinach, bananas, mixed berries and peanut butter. You can also add yogurt and any fruit and vegetables to your liking. You can also add plain water for liquid if you want to watch calories. I use a large pitcher that yeilds about 25 oz. You can take it work with you or drink it in the car. hth

My eczema was bad like that as a child, and one of my kids. . Never heard of bleach baths. ...I would be scared of that. . Bleach burns my skin...I did oatmeal. .....
Something that helped my son was to apply his ointment right after a bath woke his skin was still damp and wrap goon in saran wrap for about 15 mins

I have to work tomorrow and the little one took a late nap... My allergy symptoms are starting to flare up... I gotta wash my clothes for work tomorrow. I was gone all day running around with the kids. When I get off this weekend, I'm going into hiding! Lbvs just a lot to do this week.
