Why Such a STARK Difference in Hair Progress Between Tyra & Oprah?

Everyone's hair is different....however, it does seem that she didn't take care of her hair the way she should, probably out of ignorance like 85% of the women on LHCF before we got here.:yep: and learned how to have healthy hair that grows.

I've been taking care of my hair and have done so much to it and its not MBL yet. No matter what....it's growing. Now, it did grow better when I was using certain products:look:, but I don't use it now since I've been doing Ayurveda, so I can see a stark difference in growth, but I'm glad its healthy...that's the most important thing to me now.:yep:

Two totally different textures. No matter what I do to my hair it will never be as thick and lush as Oprah's. I just don't have that much hair and I don't have the same type of hair.

Precisely..I have never had thick hair either...and I'm fine with that ...right now I'm just trying to get my hair as healthy as possible...

Yeap she DEF needed that trim:nono:

I'm just in AWE that someone with all the resources she got don't just PAY someone to fuss over their hair for them??
But yea I know most black women don't really care for their hair under the weaves *shrugs*

I also can't tell if her hair is naturally fine or if its the relaxer thats thinning her hair out like that because the relaxer started thinning me out over the years too so you really can't tell considering all the over processing her hair has been thru if she's genuinely fine haired or just over processed.....

She has flawless skin and striking eyes though:yep:
:look::look:

Maybe her "stylist" is just a high paid scissor happy, relaxer overlapping money hungry wannabe. Just because you're a stylist doesent mean you actually know how to CARE for hair or keep it healthy. Tyra may just believe everything her stylist tells her and lets others care for her hair instead of speaking up for what she wants.

Just because she's rich doesen't mean she knows better.

I think this is the picture they where talking about

I just saw that on Twitter too! Good lookin out

That's not BSL on Tyra or me though. Remember, we are TALL! And if that's BSL, then her stylist took off way more than 3 inches. I'm just sayin... ;P

It should be more about health than length. Oprah has always had a LOT of hair. Tyra's hair seemed a little more on the finer side. Maybe she really just started taking care of it under the extensions, weaves, etc? It's really not a comparison. Just like women here, all of our hair grows at different rates and are different textures and thickness....no biggie.

I was getting ready to say the same thing. Oprah has always had thick hair that grew like crazy. She would always just keep it cut. My daughter hair is really thick like that and she hates it. I have always had really thin hair, I am not going to say I hate it but I would love to have it a little thicker.

This is soooo not a hard question to answer, LOL.

Doesn't tyra perm her hair? Oprah's is natural right?

If I started doing one on one comparisons with my hair and some of the ladies on this board I think I would get frustrated, throw in the towel and go back to the weave. Everybody has different circumstances going on with their hair . Oprah's hair looks uber thick and Tyra's is not as thick but it looks healthy and full. Plus Tyra said that she didn't really have a connection with her hair like that so maybe thats apart of it too.

Also, Tyra Admittedly Said today, She has worn Weaves & Pieces since she was 17 years old (the start of her modeling career).:nono:

And like other Posters Pointed Out: When Oprah First came to TV, she was sporting her own hair. And when they show clips of her as a New Anchor in Baltimore, I think she had thick 'Fro.:yep:

So, suffice it to say, Tyra's Hair, being naturally thin and probably "fragile" was not well cared for, For Years.:ohwell:

Okay, so... I went and really, really studied these pics of her wet hair. It looks like she might have been close to BSL before the trim, and is now between shoulder and APL. So, it's possible that the stylist took off around 3 inches and the story still be plausible.

Funny that I see others stretching this all the way to mid-back though!

Okay, so I'm outta here. ;)

Oprah's hair is thick. Tyra's is not. Tyra's hair was dyed. Oprah's was not. Tyra was a wll-known fashion model for many years, and I'm sure her hair suffered accordingly. Oprah was not. I think that accounts for the difference. :yep:

(As a side note, Oprah may not be natural either, as some pointed out towards the end of the "Oprah = natural" thread. A few relaxed ladies posted out that their hair looks that big & poofy between stretches. When I was relaxed, my hair was always big & poofy.)

And Tyra's hair did not look all that terrible to me. It definitely did NOT look like the average black woman's I see walking around. :look: She was around BSL before they trimmed off the dye:

Oprah said on no uncertain terms that she's natural and that was a blow-out, like she specifically took some time out of a show to clear up the falsehoods lol it was funny and it looks EXACTLY like my blowouts and lawd knows II'm nachal!! lol

Sorry to disappoint but Tyra's wet hair was not BSL when wet before the cut. I saw the show on TIVO. I paid close attention to her length and at most wet her hair was full APL. This being said, we all know that her dry hair could not have been APL because of shrinkage. On another note, her hair looked nice. I was suprised how healthy it had gotten since she did the book Tyra's beauty inside and out.

oprah has thick, coarse NATURAL hair. Tyra has fine, thin, relaxed, coloured hair that the stylist chopped right before the show. He cut off a good three inches, too. Liked Tyra's hair and am convinced everyone will always find something to say.

i agree she was between apl and bsl before, but it was thin and fine. Her stylist cut off alot! Scissor happy.

Oh, I didn't know she actually said that it was natural. My hair ain't gonna ever look like Oprah's, natural or not.

Tyra just can't get a break. We should all know that hair grows differently depending on the person, genetic make up, and what they are doing to their hair (chemicals, color, etc)

I haven't read through the entire thread I don't know if anyone else mentioned this, but she was past APL but not BSL straight from the shower and her stylist gave her a blunt cut of what looked like about 4 inches to me.

ETA: It was already mentioned, sry.

thats not oprahs hair in the bottom pic, is it?
:yep:Yepper's it surely is, gorgeous aint it?? She specifically took time out of her show to tell people that she is not wearing a weave she's been growing her hair out under lacefronts and weaves for a few years and grew her hair out and is now rockin press and curls

Oprah Defend's her Hair "This is Not a Weave!" it was sooo funny to see on live tv and it made me oh so proud:infatuated: I realized then that she's my hair twin:yep:

People are just "hating" and as much as people hate that word, if people are digging and bending over backwards to find something wrong with every single thing a person does, then clearly it's a jealousy, "hating" issue.
