Why Such a STARK Difference in Hair Progress Between Tyra & Oprah?

What do you think is the biggest factor? I mean Oprah did the same protective styles Tyra did: Lacefronts & Weaves because obviously they're on TV every day and have to switch it up more often then most. But Oprah is now wearing her pressed hair out for the world to see and its thick lush strong layered and MBL:

Whereas I'm sorry but Tyra's hair looks sooooo average like every other black woman walking down the street that had a miseducation about their hair from Day 1 (this is borrowed from a post on the E/T board called First Screen Cap Of Tyra's Real Hair):
I took a small video with my camera and screen capped it!

She came out with it wet, and she said she is going to get it blowdried and styled on stage LOL

ENJOY!

To top it off she has a stylist that got up on national television talkin bout you need to cut your hair to let it grow:eek: somebody pray for this girl:nono: aint she supposed to have the best stylists in the world @ her disposal? What I wanna know is what went wrong with Tyra? Maybe she just wasn't as determined? Do expect too much as a hair-centric person?

These are two women who have the same high demand lifestyle who both have access to the best of the best why such a stark difference in results? Maybe she should give going natural a try like Beyonce and Oprah did...idk

What do yall think? Why such a stark difference in results?

It should be more about health than length. Oprah has always had a LOT of hair. Tyra's hair seemed a little more on the finer side. Maybe she really just started taking care of it under the extensions, weaves, etc? It's really not a comparison. Just like women here, all of our hair grows at different rates and are different textures and thickness....no biggie.

Maybe she cuts often. Tyra's hair doesn't look bad. Oprah has always had very thick hair.

Tyra modeled for years and she has mentioned that her hair has been fried, dyed, placed tight ponytails etc...her hair has probably been cut several times as well due to her career

And she's younger and has probably been at HHJ for a shorter time than Oparh

I think she tries different things on her hair that the rest of us don't see or pay attention to (at least I dang sure don't). She's growing out some blonde so I think she plays around in her hair a lot, who know's what has happened. She could've chopped it all off at some point and is starting over. Or her stylist is trying to have her hair grow in bluntly and evenly.

Also didn't he cut off like 3 inches or something like that?

Two totally different textures. No matter what I do to my hair it will never be as thick and lush as Oprah's. I just don't have that much hair and I don't have the same type of hair.

I'm definitely not saying that it has to be as thick and the same texture...she might have a finer hair texture but who knows because she relaxes....but c'mon she has access to the best stylists in the world and has enough money to pay someone else to be obsessed with her hair while she goes about her life...I just feel these are mediocre results for the progress she should've made in all those protective styles. JMHO

But hey, maybe she had a few setbacks we've all been there....idk but she DEFINITELY needs to dump the stylists she's been messin with and talk to Oprah's.....if they even bother to see anyone else considering what Oprah must be payin them:lachen: they prolly retired come to think of it:scratchch lmao:lol:

Forget the difference in thickness. Oprah's hair was always thick but it was NOT always long. Her hairstylist is better. some know how to take care of hair, most do not. Most know how to make hair look good but do not care about hair health. In addition it appears that Tyra has a snip happy stylist who is perpetuating the same stupid "cut it to grow it" myth that I've been hearing from stylists all my life. I say it's the stylist fault. Most people rely on them and if you do you're putting your hair in their capable (or incapable) hands.

Maybe tyra didn't take care of her hair under the weave / wig on a daily basis. So many people wear wigs and weaves while ignoring their real hair under it. You still have to dc weekly and moisturize.

I agree with the other post cant compare the two head os hair. I dont believe Tyra did anything incorrectly she had a lot going on when she was modeling with her hair being various ways.,

She and Her Stylist Pointed Out that she had gone someplace else and they Double Processed her Hair with both Relaxer & Color in the Same Service and Pointed Out that's why she had alot of "Damage"

Also, when you go "lighter" that's a whole different story and she has probably been bleached, frosted, highlighted etc.....:look: And So Have I. And it takes a Toll on Your Hair.

And He did strongly suggest not getting both done in the same service. IK I use to have that done for years.....and it finally caught up with me.

Now, as a DIY, I know that was a Stupid Move. And the Stylists I was going to, never saw issue with doing it either.:ohwell: $ $ $ $ $ $ $

And Now I opt for Henna/Indigo instead of "bottled color, and even with that I wait 1-2 weeks after Chemically Relaxing.:yep:

Did Tyra say that she was trying to achieve long hair? I recall her saying that one of the reasons that some of her wigs were so bulky is because she had so much hair underneath her weaves. I don't think that it's everyone's goal to have WL/BSL hair. I thought that Tyra's hair looked nice and healthy. They are 2 different women with different heads of hair. For that matter, being a member of LHCF for years is not a guarantee that you will have BSL/WL hair

Oprah's hair has always been huge & on point. The weaves/wigs were a detour for her. She has been one of my hair idols from way back. I followed every word that Andre had to say because of her.

Exactly what I was going to say.

in re: "Tyra's hair was BSL before 3 inches were hacked off." - When I looked at the pics of Tyra's hair... the wet pic wasn't even at APL. Even if that was after the cut - there's no way, as tall as Tyra is (my height!) that there is only 3 inches from shoulder to BSL. Come on now...

Supposedly, on the show she stated that she doesn't care for her hair while it's under the wig/weave/whatever. (Didn't watch, so I dunno...)

I have seen pics of Oprah when she was a young girl and she had long thick hair. Plus, Oprah used to wear her hair out during the 80's so it seems that Oprah may have always taken care of her natural hair. Tyra on the other hand is always in wigs, weaves, hair pieces, etc. So maybe Tyra hasn't always cared for her natural hair. IDK that to be a fact but many women who are seen exclusively in wigs and weaves don't really put alot of care into their real hair. Maybe Tyra just recently got serious about caring for her natural hair.

On that show she did on "Good Hair" she made it seem like she had problem hair that she couldn't manage so she opted for the wigs and weaves so she could have long flowing hair.

just cuz tyra kept her hair in a protective style....doesn't mean she took care of it under the weaves. and she's relaxed & colored on top of it.....

SPEAK ON IT luckiestdestiny!! SPEAK ON IT!!! :yep::clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping::yep:

My hair was NEVER almost halfway down my back like it got when i decided to go natural.....it was always around APL. Also people are like oh, Tyra has fine hair...my hair started to look like that while wet too after a few yrs with the relaxer and as you can see I naturally have thick coarse strong strands so having a relaxer can be deceptive about that too....thats was one of my biggest motivations to go natural cuz I'd look @ my childhood pix and go:nono: my hair was NOT meant to be this thin I'm going natural, I'll press it if I want it straight best decision I ever made:grin: But she can definitely achieve nice length & thickness with a relaxer too she just needs a new stylists since it def wont be practical for her to be a DIYer.

She most definitely is suffering with her scissor happy stylist smh:nono:

OP: At first, I wondered the same thing. Then I thought maybe she wasn't really interested in length? But later in the show, she said she was trying to grow it. So I really have no idea.

Oprah did have long thick hair growing up and as a young woman. In her early 20's she went to a salon to have her hair relaxed and it all fell out. So she had a TWA but by the time she got famous she had a nice head of thick hair. In the early 80's it was about SL and she seemed to purposefully keep it in the same style.

So long thick hair is not new to Oprah.

Tyra's hair may not grow at the same rate as Oprah's, so I don't think it's fair to compare one's hair to another. That's like comparing your hair to mine!! We're different and started our journeys at different points in our lives for probably different reasons. Same with most women. I guess you could ask why Beyonce doesn't have hair to her butt since she's a million dollar protective style wearer?! ;) LOL!!

lmao!!:lachen: Great points yall! I think its fair for all the ppl who said she modeled for years and had her hair dyed fried and layed to the side thats def a HUGE factor.

Oprah has had consistently thick hair but it HASN'T been consistently long it seems after her 50th birthday she got serious about growing her natural hair out again.

I also think its definitely a fair argument to say their @ diff points in their healthy hair journey she seems like she's just starting hers:scratchch

I have seen pics of Oprah as a young girl and she had long thick hair. It seems that for years she purposefully kept it in a signature hairstyle. So she probably would have healthy long hair anyway. Whereas Tyra may not have always cared for her hair and she seems to have fine hair.

Yeap she DEF needed that trim:nono:

I'm just in AWE that someone with all the resources she got don't just PAY someone to fuss over their hair for them?? But yea I know most black women don't really care for their hair under the weaves *shrugs*

I also can't tell if her hair is naturally fine or if its the relaxer thats thinning her hair out like that because the relaxer started thinning me out over the years too so you really can't tell considering all the over processing her hair has been thru if she's genuinely fine haired or just over processed.....

She has flawless skin and striking eyes though:yep:
