The Buy Nothin for JULY 2008 Challenge

:dance7:

My package is here, my package is here!!! Oh, YAY!!! *does happy dance*

That was smart, ordering during the grace period at the beginning of the month. When I thought I was going to sign up, I was looking around desperately for something to buy. But that would have defeated the purpose for me and besides, I couldn't decide anyway. This month I want to use up my KBB Hair Milk. I'm going to throw away my Queen Helene's cholesterol. And I've made a big dent in my Elasta QP when I used it for detangling pre-shampoo last time. 3 or 4 more uses like that and it'll be all gone. And if I time it just right, I'll finish up my TJ's Nourish Spa shampoo at the end of the month. I want to replace that because I don't really like the other shampoos I have.

Hehe - I figured that would help tide me over for a month or two.

If it wasn't for you and your hair toys, I'd be fine! :lachen:

Aw man, it's only the 10th and I feel weak. I haven't bought hair products for several weeks anyway, but somehow knowing I'm not supposed to is making it harder. I really wanna buy the Ovation 3 pack sample set. I don't know what came over me. In fact I told myself that I wouldn't buy or take anything that was specifically marketed as a growth, at least not until next year. I started trying to grow my hair long at the beginning of the year and I really wanted a full year just to see what my hair could do on its own and just to learn the natural strengths and weaknesses of my hair. But I feel I've already lost out because I was losing hair at my temples and went to the derm and he told me to take a multivitamin and a vitamin with biotin and since it turns out my iron's a little low an iron supplement, too. Though I'm not sure if any of these are really growth aids. Anyway, I don't want to buy more products and I really didn't want to buy ones specifically to "make my hair grow", but I got a sudden urge.

This is like the midnight call to your addiction buddy. Help me to resist the urge!

Girl, breattthe, breathe!!! Resist! Be strong!

You can totally buy the Ovation set - just not til the 31st (when does this challenge end??) :lachen:

It's not really denying yourself, it's just a delay. And anticipation makes it all the sweeter, right? :look:

Start with the multi-vitamins, and see if that helps. Hrm, I need to get back on mine, speaking of which. I've started taking them at night - nasty behind pills.

I went to WHole Foods today... for my precious RoseWater to do my facials... and some peppered turkey bacon cuz I LURVE theirs.... and of course I went thru the haircare aisle..... I picked up the bottle of J/A/S/O/N biotin conditioner and put it in my cart....then I looked at the 365 Mint conditioner.... and then I started reading ingredient lists on 5 or 6 other things.... and then it hit me... I dont NEED a THING and I PROMISED to BUY NOTHING... I didnt cheat... I put the stuff back, grabbed my rose water & bacon and got the heck out of dodge....

I thought I was about to hear another confession. You done good!

Well, that didn't last long. :lachen: I'm out. Dangit. The gods were not with me on this one. Yesterday as I was shopping at CVS buying all non-hair-related items, my receipt printed out a coupon for $3 off any Neutrogena hair care item. And their Triple Moisture hair mask is my favorite for detangling and I was all out. I used the Elasta QP because I was out and it really was inferior for detangling purposes for me. I thought maybe I could wait until the challenge was over to buy it, but the coupon expired before then. I succumbed today.

:lachen: you can always bust out your 50 situps, and keep keeping on!

I went to Lush yesterday, and had far too much fun - and since I don't like their hair stuff, it was easy to be 'good'. :lol

This is soooooo hard!!! I already have a list of what I want to get at the end of the month: the Quemet Sampler pack, Cantu leave in, more hair accessories (its all your fault mwedzi!!!)...:lick: But I am going to try and hold off until the end of the month...:perplexed

Another (wo)man down. :nono::nono: I've been reading that stretchers thread and I just had to try the coconut milk. It was only $1.25 (tries to justify). :ohwell:

OK, I am going to join this challenge. I don't think it is really cheating if I didn't find this thread until today - right? I have got to stop buying. Shoot, I'm broke & still trying to buy stuff. I got stuff I can't even remember what I am suppose to do with it, like hydrolyzed wheat protein & hydrolyzed oat. I have a huge bathroom and have run out of space. DH said I have only one head & he cannot figure out how I am going to put all this stuff on my head. I've got oils & butters up to ying yang. I still have products that haven't arrived yet & I am still thinking of stuff to buy. I am scared to go into any store. I find myself over by the hair care products before I know it. The BSS clerk saw me in the parking lot at the grocery story & recognized me.

I cannot look at the threads that say stuff like "best moisturizer ever" or what is your favorite conditioner, detangler, treatment, etc. or any product review thread or any recipe thread or, or, or...:lachen:" Then as I was reading this thread I saw hair pins & sticks & went to the noted website. Dang, I have a TWA - what kind of hair accessories do I need? Plus I got a ton of hair toys already.

Hell, I do addictions counseling & train counselors. Physician, heal thyself!!! Help! Help! Help

OK, I am in....

Hello, fellow PJers. I decided to go by Walgreens on my way home. Don't even remember what for, now. Before I knew it, I found myself over in the hair care aisle. I swear, I do not remember walking over there. I was in this trance-like state & suddenly had metal-less scunchies in my hair (you know so I can try stretching my hair. Dab gum it, I have a TWA, what is there to stretch?), an assortment of hair conditioners, and then I remember I was in this challenge. I reluctantly, slowly, put everything back. As I tried to scurry out of the store, I remembered distilled water. Now I do use it in my steam mop and I am OUT of water, but I put it back because when the thought came to my head, it was in direct relationship to hair.

Man, do I have it bad. I even thought of finding out what the penalty was for purchasing & just "pay" it. But, I did not succumb to temptation.

BTW, I needed garlic and onion powder for cooking but decided not to go to the grocery store. No need in tempting fate twice in one day.

:bighug: You do have it bad, RhapsdyBlu!!!! :lachen: I'm glad you let it go - we are over halfway through!

I almost fell off. I picked up a bottle of Giovanni 50/50 shampoo to buy forgetting that I was on this challenge. Well...my SO paid for it so it doesn't count.....

Yes, JK, I do have it bad. My best friend says that I am prone to excess. Sheesh!

Cecilie, I am happy you got a kick out of this. I can usually find a humorous way to tell a story, but it is always the truth.

you done good!!

I have failed.

I bought CHI Silk Infusion and GF Strength & Repair masque. Didn't even realize the money was gone until I was drying my hair. I guess I subconsciously convinced myself to finish doing my hair before I made myself aware Id done something wrong:wallbash:

Ah well. Maybe next month.

I fell off...AGAIN! :ohwell:

I ordered some WEN!!!:lick:

I just couldn't help myself. I love my CON but I want to try no-pooing to see how that works for me.

Thanks - it sure is a struggle. Aggie posted a link to a site that reviews conditioners. I clicked the link to open in a new tab, but I am afraid to look at it.

<muttering to self> "I don't need anything else, I don't need anything else."

:lachen::lachen::lachen:Girl, my gut is hurting from laughing so hard.

Sorry, I failed too.

Hopefully I get my regimen down and join the challenge next month.

I don't know if there was an upper limit - but yeah, that's the penalty...
