Is Having Long Hair Really All That Important To You??

Whats important to me is that my hair becomes thick in all areas, shine and manageability.

I also would like more curl definition or waves as a washngo.

I have 5 years to grow long hair for the night I really want/need it for:
my honeymoon night!!! :lachen:

IT TRULY IS NOT THAT IMPORTANT TO ME... TRULY.....IF I WAS NOT SUCH A LAZY CHICK, MY HAIR WOULD BE IN A SHORT LAYERED CUT STYLE...I DO LESS WITH LONG HAIR....

I like the way it looks on me. I've been trying to get the length I had 5 years ago and I haven't been able to reach it. I found this board when I started looking for answers as to why my hair kept reaching a certain point and then breaking. This board and the C&G site made me realize I needed to wear my hair in a protective style until it was past my sholders.

I totally understand why people want long hair, I mean I just think that it is sad that when a Black woman have long hair that is all hers that people assume that it is a weave or that she is of mixed race, I am very happy to see that black women cam grow their hair to great lengths just as any other race, I love to see Black women reach their goals and proving other wrong. I think that some people may have misunderstood my post or took it the wrong way, Of course alot want long hair,I want Big Nappy Hair, My goal is to have a BAA (Bad Ass Afro).

I have had long relaxed hair and now I want long natural hair but i know that length will come in time as long as I care for my hair properly, I come to this board because the women here don't seem to knock you if you ask about a texturizer or even to blow dry your hair, Now I don't want a texturizer at all, but I am just saying in General, I also like the fact that this boards WELCOMES all of us and does not seperate us because some of us choose to be natural or wear weaves etc.

I like to see that we as black women can come together and talk about our hair differences. I didn't pay the yearly fee to just come here and read,I paid because I liked the atmosphere and that I could ask any question about hair natural or relaxed. But it seems like I asked a "STUPID QUESTION" because this is Long Hair Care Forum. and it speaks for itself but I was not asking the board I was asking the women in general. I know some did not come here to get healthy hair you came to learn to get long hair and there is not a darn thing wrong with that, but you have to learn to care for your hair and keep it healthy, Just like I had to learn to take care of my natural hair and my hair is growing so darn fast. I think by summer I will have that BAA!!

To all of you that answered my simple question with a yes or a no I do appreciate it. But hey I know we all have our opinons and I don't mind it at all because we are not all suppose to agree.:D

It isn't a stupid question, NappyParadise. I've been here like 2 and half years and I know I've seen this question asked SEVERAL times in various forms, so it's not just you wondering. There are always a good number of responses to this question, and when I consider those responses I have to say that it is clear that we AREN'T all here for the same reasons. There are always plenty of people that indicate that health or thickness are their main goals. Some people are just trying to recover from a bad salon experience or thinning from braids or a bad relaxer or whatever. Others want to prove to themselves (and others) that they can grow their hair long. Still others either have never had hair at their goal length before, or even if they have, they just want to grow to that length because they like it. And I think some folks hang around here just because it's fun--chatting about hair products and all sorts of other stuff on the other forums. They may not even have any particular goals, but they like taking care of their hair and helping others with tips.

As far as how important long hair is to me, I have to say that on my personal beauty spectrum, it ranks higher than nails and jewelry, and lower than clear skin and clothes that fit  It is also true that the more time I spend actively growing my hair, the more important reaching my goal becomes. Earlier someone mentioned feeling more "excited" about reaching hair goals, and that's how I feel too. I'm putting in the time and effort to take care of my hair so I'm excited to see the results. Haircare has become a hobby for me, but also reaching waistlength, a length I've never had before, has become a real personal goal. When I set real goals (which are different from my numerous casual "resolutions" ), it is important to me to keep going until I get there :yep:

I dont know how important it is for me. I have taken it for granted. I got a bad relaxer and I cut it to ear length when I was like 12. I never was one to focus on growing it out. I focused on the hygiene aspect of making sure it was clean and moisturized. I would cut every year for the new school year and it would grow back for the next one. Obviously someone who takes it for granted.
In a way I do care about the length, but I think it came as a byproduct of wanting the health to be optimal.
I also came to this board because I was transitioning....I already had long (at least to me) healthy hair. But Im now learning to remove the stylist from the equation so LHCF has been a god sent.

HHG for those who are/aren't concerned about long hair

I'm not even gonna front. Yes, it's important to me...that's why I originally came here and why I originally started taking better care of my hair...because I wanted it to be looooong. And, I think those that say it's not important to them, aren't being 100% honest. This place isn't called HealthyHairCareForum. Don't get me wrong, healthy hair is most def. important also, and in order to grow pretty, long hair it does have to be healthy...but I don't think that the majority of us started coming here solely to get healthy hair. Anyway, healthy hair is important to me now also b/c I understand that in order for my hair to thrive to it's fullest, I need to be healthy all around, from head to foot, inside and out.

What about those of us who were just looking for a black hair care board period? I happened to see the link to LHCF posted on another black board and decided to check it out. I liked what I saw, so I decided to stay. Plain and simple. The "long" part of the web address really isn't that important to me. I'm more interested in the "hair care" part and that's the honest truth. Some of us really are more interested in health than length.:ohwell:

I've always had fairly long hair (past shoulder length to above bra length). I've experimented with a gallizion hair styles and colors and I never really knew how to take care of my hair. I joined because I wanted to learn how to take care of my hair, I care about length but it's not the end all be all of everything. I knew that once I got my hair healthy, I would gain length.:)

Having long hair used to be a big issue with me but now, not so much anymore. :look: Maybe it's because I'm getting older. Maybe it's because there aren't too many styles left in the black hair magazines for me to choose from. Perhaps since my hair is already a good length I don't think about it much. Well, to a certain extent I do-- if I didn't think about it at all I wouldn't be here now would I?

I think its kinda important to me, just because I want the old length I had most of my life back. Around bra strap length is what I want, maybe for nostalgic reasons and also I feel I look better and more unique.

I want long hair but its not more important or important enough to me as just having healthy hair. I would prefer that over long hair but right now I just want to see how long my hair can really grow since I never gave it a real chance to do so. All the women in my family (well on my mothers side) their hair grows fast and long and I want to see if mine can do the same. So far so good.

Let's be real! I'm tired of seeing sistahs walking around with phony ponies, wigs and weaves that aren't even the same color as their natural hair. I'm also tired of the underground movement, ie...ignorance, hair stylists, media, that keeps our hair short and other's hair long.

When I see a sistah with naturally long beautiful hair, I applaud.

I want long beautiful black 4b hair, dangit!

I want them both long, healthy natural hair. I think it is important to me because after so many years of abuse and miseducation I can finally see my hair grow long. The women on this board haved showed me that TLC and good practice could mean major growth. And I want to see that happen for me I want long hair! Forgot about all the myths, my hair can grow, and if it isn't there is something I am doing wrong. And I am ready to experiment and see what works for growing my hair. I like to see progress if I take a vitamin I would know that it really does what it says if I can see my hair, and nails grow. Then I know it is working for the health of the rest of my body. I am all for it.:)

Having long and healthy hair is important to me, because until I came to this board I did not think it was possible to gain length. Slowly but surely I am gaining length which is getting thicker and healthier. I like long hair it can boost confidence and make me feel more feminine and sexy, for myself!

if i was told tomorrow that my hair could grow no longer, iwouldn't be so sad as i've gained alot in the past yr. i think i class long hair different lengths, escpecially when i reach my targets.

now, i would class long hair as brastrap length. and yes it is important but its no the end of the world if i dont get there. i just count my blessings - aslong as my hairs healthy, i'm kriss!

I went half my life without long hair.

But then when I realized I could grow long it was THE perfect fit for my intense personality.

It is now essential to my drama :D.
This post is soooo old, but I've always remembered this quote, I LOVE it! Bumpity bump!

Btw, long hair is still important to me :)

Long hair is NOT a hobbie, a favorite pastime or a way to entertain myself. For me long hair is a must.
Once i realized that I could actually retain all the growth that I gain each year, I know for me it is a must...and yes, I want that crazy long hair that some women on the forum say that they DON"T want.
My ultimate goal is tailbone. But bare in mind i am 5 feet 9 with a slim build and long neck.
To me tailbone length hair will look so ultra sexy. Also, for me, the longer my hair gets the easier it is for me to style.
I want extra long hair so i won't have to think about my hair anymore.
Long hair to me is a style in itself.
It is the ultimate accessory.
I'm not much of a jewelry person...just my wedding rings and left hand ring. When I wear earrings or a necklace I feel overdressed.
However, once my tailbone hair grows in ....this will be the accent to my natural beauty.

I want it all!!!!!!!
Long and healthy..the majority of my adult life was spent in hair darkness. The abuse and heart ache my hair endured , I want it all back , I want all the hair that evil has robbed me of. So yes, long hair is very important. I am also sick of other races assuming we can only weave, wig, or braid hair to have length and health. I want to be a myth breaker. I want my hair to have as much personality and character as I do.

P.S
I wore an afro out to a retirement party last night, I have never had so many compliment on my natural hair. It really made me feel good, I know I can expect compliments on my straight hair , but it was the first time I got sooooooo many compliments on my natural "fro" Thank you Lord...to you and the ladies of LHCF

I wouldn't necessarily say that it's all that important, but it is a long term goal of mine. Above all, I just want thick, healthy hair, even if it's not MBL or WL. BSL would be just fine and I think I'd even settle for APL if need be. But ever since joining the hair boards, especially LHCF, I've set my sights on obtaining WL hair, despite all of the negativity from outside influences that comes along with trying to accomplish this goal. I think what I want more than anything is to prove not only to myself, but to others as well, that I can do it. I can achieve it. If I have to stay stuck at MBL, so be it. The journey is a good experience. But, I'm definitely striving for WL. Anything longer than that would be a bit too much for me.

I'd say it's important to me. I've never had past BSL hair so I want to make sure I achieve MBL and possible WL. It's personal challenge. I also love the look and the style of long, healthy, thick hair and I want to have that style on me.

Oh yea, it's important. It's something I always wanted and people told me I couldn't have... so naturally I HAVE to get it. :angeldevi

I was just thinking about this the other day! It's becoming all too common for Black women to be known to wear a weave in order to have any type of length. Also, this one girl wrote into the show "Look Alike" and she asked how to get hair like Beyonce's and the one stylist said "weaves and pieces, because of the constant chemical processing Black hair can't retain growth very well" this annyoned me to say the least! I have a relaxer and I am retaining my growth just fine :hand: Also, not all Black women relax their hair and achieve long hair. The proof is all up in this board!

Anyways, I really won't be totally satisfied until my hair is atleast full MBL!

It's important to me because this is something that I want to do, but it's not something that I have to do. I'm content with having shoulder length or shorter hair, but I want to grow it for a change of pace to see how I like it.

Yeah, it's important.

It isn't as important as say, my overall health and my family. But it's important. I enjoy long hair.

Ditto for sure!

I never thought that I could have long hair of my own. I really thought the only way I could get it was by buying it! :perplexed

So now that I know that I can get long beautiful hair of my own with the proper care, I'm determined to do it!

Yes it's important to me because it's a part of my body.I like taking care of my body. I want it to go to its potential. And I love me some long hair.

Yes, it's important to me to have long hair. I want to see how long I can grow my hair with all the knowledge I have now on retaining length and taking care of my hair. Of course I want healthy hair as well...I want it ALL:cupidarrow:
