This is really a great thread. I don't give it much thought when it really does make a difference, not just to others smelling my hair but to me. The other day, I was in my favorite health food store and I felt someone standing really close to me from behind. It was the owner of the store (fine and single, BTW) and I realized he probably was sniffing my hair (at least I hope he was! ). My hair was freshly washed and airdried and it did smell fresh. Washing my hair every 3 days does keep it fresh smelling. I would love to have a particular scent in my hair though, like the Monoi oil I read about from time to time on this board.

I am taking notes hear. I am reading some good ideas. The scented oils idea sounds good. I already use Monoi jasmine oil but I don't care for the smell too much. I would like to smell more like a sweet flower of have more of a fruity smell for my hair.
Is there such a thing as hair perfume?
[/ QUOTE ]to me , the Aveda Emolliant is like wearing a hair perfume
Re: How important is it to have good smelling hair
I think about the smell of my hair all the time, its very important, I am willing too put smelling things in my hair, but Stinky hair is bad, very bad, its like smelling all together, I would not blame a guy for not calling again if I smelt, I want too know how asians perfume thier hair, I know they use some kind of inscent and hold thier hair over it, but what they use, and how too keep it smelling good, not sure, great thread
I read somewhere that there are certain essential oils which besides being good for our hair smell good and attract the opposite sex like lavender, ylang-ylang and jasmine, which we can add to our hair.

My S/O smells my hair all the time and tells me he always wanted a woman who had hair that smells like mine. OH, how I love that man!!!!
I digress.
Anyway, my conditioners leave my hair smelling pretty good, but not overly perfumed. He likes the Aveda Deep Penetrating Conditioner smell, which is too musky for me but it stays until the next wash. His other favs are Nature's Gate Herbal (he says it smells like Africa
)and AO GPB. I use Mango Butter to mask the smell of EVOO, so that's typically what it smells it like. If I think it's not smelling so fresh I put some of that Dark n Lovely Honey something stuff in, it smells good, but it's too heavy for me and has too much mineral oil for regular use. The most important thing for me to know it smells CLEAN!
Re: How important is it to have good smelling hair
Smelly hair makes me self-conscious, so I've always been a frequent hair washer. If I don't feel like my hair smells fresh, I really don't feel completely clean. After my hair is freshly washed and I get a whiff of it the next day, it's like an instant pick me up. I think that's why my PJ weakness is a conditioner that smells good and why I can't use grease.
That's one of the things I get complimented on the most about my hair: it smells good and it's touchable with no residue.
Re: How important is it to have good smelling hair
Good smelling hair is of extreme importance to me!
Have u ever smelt someone's hair and want to barf
and to top it off u see these huge brown flakes in their head and everytime they move u want to puke. I wash my hair often (2x a week) b/c I am rather obsessed with clean hair. I always try to go one full week but I just loove the feeling of a clean scalp and freshly shampooed and conditioned hair. Nothing like clean hair!
Re: How important is it to have good smelling hair
It's essential that I have good smelling hair. To me hair that stinks is nasty, especially if you have the opportunity to wash your hair. It would be a different story if you didn't have access to clean water and stuff. Anyway if my hair stank I would be uncomfortable hugging by b/f.

I actually gte a thrill ot of my hair smelling good. I will not use a product if it doesnt leave its smell behind, LOL, crazy isnt it
[/ QUOTE ]
Its not crazy I'm the exact same way!! If a product smells bad no matter how great it works I refuse to touch it.
I'm in braids now and I did a hot oil treatment with EVOO mixed with some Carols Daughter Jazi Jus last week and dh can't get enough of sniffing my hair. I've had the Jazi Jus sitting in my closet for awile (wasn't overly thrilled with it for my skin) but never knew the scent would be so nice on the hair its honeysuckle and hyacinth - it warms up as the day goes on so my hair still smells freshly washed and its been 5 days since I washed last.
http://www.philou.net makes shampoo and conditioners that smell wonderful. I used to use the Chocolate Mint conditioner and while it wasn't the most moisturizing, my hair smelled like chocolate for DAYS.
I never thought about my hair smelling good until my SO kept sniffing my hair after I got out of the shower and put in my KeraCare leave-in. He also likes the smell of Amla oil, monoi oil and the NTM products.
I love my hair smelling good. In the fall I like earthy smells so I use Carols Daughter Khoret Amen and Zum Rub Shea Butter Moisturizer in Frankincense & Myrrh
in the warm weather i like Carols Daughter Tui and Vatika Oil

Guilty as charged

Me too, Sweety! My "The" man (enough said
) shocked me by grabbing me, hugging me and smelling my hair!
It was soooo humiliating
because I had been working all day in an outdoor medical clinic in humid Jamaica with a sweaty cap on my head! because of my job i had to do a "curling iron on dirty hair" thing quick fast and in a hurry to greet him -- a VIP! one of my most embarrassing moments!
but i guess my hair looked so good, he thought it smelled good!
Thank God, that was pre-LHCF days! I have more power and control over my thick hair!
Re: How important is it to have good smelling hair
It is extremely important! You ever been around anyone who, for the sake of a hairstyle would not wash their hair and you would smell it
when they would pass (even at 5 feet away!!!!) And God help you if you had a keen sense of smell like I do
!
And ladies aren't the only ones! How many of you have dated guys who had a sweaty smelling head and wanted to be all propped up under you like they was a big sweet smelling rose!
Honey, cologne don't mask everythang!
The best compliments I have ever received have been about my hair smelling great from high school days (23 years ago) 'till now with my husband who loves to bury his face and hands in my hair! Can't men be wonderful?
My mom would stress "a clean head" growing up even with pressed hair! The minute I started smelling like old straightening comb smoke, dirt, and nasty bergamont, my mom would drag me kicking and hollwering to the sink! At least my hair was clean
!
Scents I like:
Sandalwood (essential oil or fragrance oil used sparingly)
Pachouli (same as above) sometimes mixed with the above
Rose(fragrance oil)
Mango "
Peach "
Apple "
I use these individually or combine some together with my shea/mango/avocado butters and in my spray bottle!
