Fall 2011 Steaming Challenge

Steaming right now with AOWC. I LOVE the way this conditioner makes my hair feel!! :lick:

But I find that it's best results are when I steam after using castile soap to shampoo. I'm pretty sure that has something to do with my hair being low porosity. The castile soap prepares my hair to REALLY absorb the moisture. :yep:

Currently under steamer for 25 mins doing protein Dc with Giovanni Nutrafix and Hydrathermal Naturals Protein dc. WIll then wash this out and do a moisture Dc under ma steamer of couuursseee!

I steamed with wheat germ oil on my hair and my oil blend on my scalp for 20 minutes. My hair felt great prior to steaming, nice and soft. Didn't notice anything amazing after steaming though. I tried something new and applied conditioner after steaming. Will try the same thing with flax seed oil and sunflower oil over the next few weeks.

Steaming was easier this time though. I wasn't so anxious for it to be over

I did a heavy protein treatment and then steamed for 30 minutes Saturday with Joico Moisture Balm. My hair still wasn't back in balance yet so I steamed for another 30 minutes yesterday.

It feels great today!

I think I need to slide in on this one. I have a SalonsRus or something like that stand up steamer but I don't use it on a regular. I'm going to try to start using it at least once a week while DCing starting tomorrow

Come on and slide in here.

One of the reasons I started the challenge was to improve my use of my steamer :ohwell: It has helped me because I feel guilty starting the challenge and then not steaming  By any means necessary.

I'll be steaming tonight.

I'm interested in shaking it up a bit tho. Thinkin about trying a baking soda rinse and steaming with a different conditioner maybe...I know...scandalous!

Really don't like steaming  Too me its like sitting under the dryer. :ohwell: I'm glad I have you ladies to keep me going. Otherwise I wouldn't steam at all.

But I had a good steaming session today despite all of the complaints.

I rinsed my hair in the shower. I applied a castor oil growth blend. I mixed AOSHR and Zuresh conditioner to thin it out. I worked the conditioner through my hair with the tangle teezer and steamed for 20 minutes. It didn't seem as hot today :yay: Usually my scalp feels like its on fire.

My hair felt soft after steaming. I applied more conditioner to my hair. Some areas felt like the conditioner didn't sink it. I let the DC sit for 2 hours and rinse.

If I do mini twists this week I will skip steaming next week. But when I do steam again I will repeat this process. My hair seems happy.

So last night I steamed with a new conditioner AND I added baking soda! It was my first time.

I must say the baking soda was grainy and I co-washed after steaming just to be sure that I returned my hair back to its natural pH. On top of that I used an aloe vera juice mix afterwards.

The conditioner is Aubrey Organics Rosa Mosqueta Nourishing Conditioner. Now my hair felt super soft and I do think my curls were a little looser but I also noticed that my hair looked significantly blacker than usual! :perplexed

I don't color my hair at all but I'm not sure if it was the conditioner or the baking soda that caused the darkness but I was shocked.

I'm not sure if I'll use the baking soda often or even ever again, but we'll see.

Steamed for 20 mins with a combination of mega silk and silk dreams vanilla silk

Hey ladies! I dropped out of this challenge. I'm not sure if steaming is for my hair, right now.

I'm trying to figure out this whole bubble hair thing. If the steam is got enough to cause a bubble in the shaft of my hair. If temps over 120 can cause bubbles... then maybe the steam does. I'm not sure and my strands are so thin/fragile.
I know this sounds weird, but I'm going to do a test or two with my shed hairs. I started getting light breakage, even before I texlaxed and I'm not sure why exactly. Just trying to figure it out.
