Fall 2011 Steaming Challenge

I didn't steam last week because I kept my twist in for 2 weeks. This week I feel so tired and don't feel like being bothered :nono:

This is my challenge and I need to get it together. Today I just can't.

But I definitely intend on getting back on track next week.

Will Steam tomorrow with Marie Dean's Olive, Wheat & Berry DC'er for maybe 20 minutes and Origins Rich Rewards for about 20 minutes.

faithVA Don't be too hard on yourself Girlie! You'll pull it together and get back under your Steama'

I am modifying my stats after steaming for a month. I am switching to steaming every other week and DCing with my heat cap on alternating weeks. I want a good comparison of these to see if I notice any difference.

I've been googling and searching but I can't find an answer, so I figured I'd ask the steam challengers.

Has anyone ever steamed without conditioner? I've got kinky twists and although I want to keep my twists moisturized, I'd also like to keep them looking neat since they've got to last 5 weeks. I'm afraid that if I steam with conditioner and have to rinse it out every time it'll make them super raggedy quickly. (oh, I usually steam 2 times a week). So would it be helpful to just get the steam but no conditioner? What y'all think?

Absolutely. I only recently started steaming with conditioner. The first few times I just steam with water and then I put my leave in on top and then sealed.

If you want you can also try just dabbing a little oil or shea butter on your twists and steaming.

I've never steamed with my twists in but definitely have done it with just water. It works just fine.

faithVA Perfect. I was hoping there was someone who had tried it... hopefully I'll get the same amount of success. I never thought to follow it up with a leave-in or sealant though. Cool, cuz I def didn't want to come out of my twists with dry, ashy hair. lol.

Yes you definitely want to seal that moisture in some type of way. It would be similiar to rinsing your twist. So you want to hold that moisture in girl.

Let us know how it turns out.

Just Steamed with Marie Dean's Olive, Wheat & Berry DC'er. Decided I didn't need to do the 20/20.

This gave me everything I needed.:lick:

Steamed yesterday with aloe vera juice, joico moisture balm and ended with coconut oil.... then left it in overnight and rinsed this morning. My hair felt great. I'm getting ready for dry Minnesota winters.

Steamed with AOGPB and SD Shea What! on dry hair. Then after i shampooed, steamed again with Enso Naturals Cacoa Curl Recovery and BFH Green Tea avocado DC.

Hmm, I'm thinking of doing a mid-week steam with SheaMoisture's Curl & Style Milk just to see what happens. I'll seal with coconut oil probably and do some twists...might be something nice to try tonight since I'm not doing much anyway...

Has anyone steamed on dry hair? I'm thinking about steaming tonight but I don't feel like wetting my hair.

Will steam in a bit with Enso Cacao Naturals with AOHSR and a lil bit of hempseed oil for 30 mins. I am trying to use up at least one thing so I can justify buying something for BF. The more these PJs up in here talk about BF sales....the MORE I wanna buy. :nono:

caramelddelight87, please let me know how that turns out. I just bought the Milk and haven't tried it yet.

I rinsed then applied my combo of Zuresh Conditioner + AOHSR + flax seed oil and worked it through my strands. I let it sit under a plastic cap for an hour and then steamed for 20 minutes. I worked on my laptop while steaming and it seemed to go much faster.

I think I will steam on the days I use conditioner only versus the days I mudwash to keep my wash day time down. I think I can stick to this schedule better than doing it weekly.

Steamed tonight using the following:
Protein DC on dry hair with SD Shea What and AOGPB.
Moisture DC with Enso Cacao Curl DC + BFH Green Tea Avocado + hempseed oil.

Haven't steamed in over 2 weeks. :ohwell: I need to do it tonight. I plan on trying it with SheaMoisture's Purification Masque and I may mix in something else because I'm concerned that it doesn't say "moisture" enough on the package. Lol.

Steamed today with AO RM, 3 vitamin E capsules, Avocado and wheat germ oil added AO Island Naturals during cool down.
