December 2015: Hits & Misses

Meh/ok: Softsheen Carson Hydra Steam Masque

I was really excited about trying this but it was just ok. My hair is soft and feels conditioned but it didn't blow me out of the water. Mane n' Tail Deep Conditioner did better.

Hit: Nuance Blackcurrant Hair Mask

Wasn't expecting anything special from a "celebrity" line of products but I really like the feel of my hair. It has a subtle shine, is very soft and just feels and moves nicely. Plus I didn't lose many hairs rinsing out/combing out/blow drying after. I could see this being a staple.

Miss:

Redken all soft shampoo. Thankfully I buy most of my shampoos small. I was expecting soft hair but it felt like I actually clarified my hair, it was hard. An epic MISS no doubt.

So There was a sliver lining in my big HIT:

Redken all soft conditioner. That fixed everything - I am back to normal again.

Another epic fail (MISS):

Roux Porosity Control, new formula and I bought 3 bottles of this garbage. It left my hair hard and not soft feeling like the original formula. I hated it so much I deliberately used up the whole bottle just to get rid of it. Smh :nono:

Neutral:

Redken Color Extend Rich Recovery - I liked this treatment but I didn't love it - not how it felt on my hair anyway. I didn't lose much hair while detangling so I believe it did what it was supposed to.

Continued Hits:
Redken Cleansing Cream
ORS Shealicious Cleansing Balm

Neutral (thus far):
Brown Butter Beauty Babassu Deep Conditioner

Miss (thus far):
Brown Butter Beauty Milk Leave In
These used to be my boo. But last time I tried them, my hair didn't feel moisturized at all, UNTIL I added aloe vera juice to both products. Then voila! Moisture! Haven't repurchased them again, as my rule is to never buy products I have to doctor to make them work.

BTW, both BBB products are bases and way back when she first started selling them, the products were perfect. I think the company must have changed the base and it affected the product quality.

Big, super HIT: Oyin Handmade Whipped Pudding--I'ma need to go back and find who suggested this to me so I can make sure to thank her. I use this, and ONLY this to retwist my hair at night. I get big, stretched out hair with actual definition. My hair is soft and is feeling so much better. Using only this one product makes my process so much easier and quicker that it makes it 100% more likely at I'll actually tend to my hair before bed and have a good hair day the next day. SO happy with this!

ETA: It was @alex114 that told me about it.:thankyou: :urock: I have you to thank for :afro:.

Alikay naturals. I honestly want a refund since I wasn't trying to spend money on hair products anyway. They sent an email today just to say the same thing. Order still in awaiting fulfillment, on their policy it says they can't cancel orders that have been shipped, mine hasn't so they need to get on it and put my money back in my account.

Not ordering anything else online unless the shipping is fast. I don't have the patience.

Misses: Mane N' Tail Shampoo. I'm sorry LHCF. I know Mane N' Tail is like the holy grail of old school shampoos and conditioners but I am not here for it. It moisturized my hair but didn't seem to clean it. It didn't sud. I made a damn mess of my kitchen counter trying to get some suds out of it and squeeze the shampoo out. Just awful.

Hits: Gain Dish soap. This is what I used to wash my hair after the Mane N' Tail fiasco. It did a GREAT job. I got major suds from a tiny use and it didn't dry out my hair surprisingly. I also used it to clean my clothes when I ran out of laundry soap and it was fabulous.

Mane N' Tail Conditioner. I used this for deep conditioning right after the dish soap. Very nice. I felt my hair was thicker after using it.

Blue Magic Coconut Oil. I used a dab of this and a dab of actual coconut oil in a first-time combo to straighten my hair. I will never go back to using anything else. It gave me the straightest and silkest hair I've had to date. And it was NON-greasy. Excellent.

Hit:
  1. the Denman D3 brush. I doubted it would work for wash n go styling, but the results were beautiful. Definition from root to tip, extreme shrinkage but nightly banding cures that.
  2. Liquid leave ins. I mixed a squirt of conditioner with water in my spray bottle and lightly misted my hair before styling with gel. No more flaking, white product balls or wasting product that my hair won't absorb anyway. I could probably skip the conditioner altogether, but I'm not ready to let go of that crutch yet.
  3. Mixing coconut oil and avocado oil into my cheapie DC (GVP Conditioning Balm). This was much easier than oil rinsing and DCing separately.
  4. Ion effective care treatment. Cheap, I can find it on the ground, only has keratin protein, and effective. I actually got it free when I renewed my Sally Beauty card.
Miss:
  1. Oil rinsing. It worked great for my hair, but after 3 rinses my neck broke out. Ugh. Oh well, I'll save more time by skipping this step.
  2. Cream and lotion leave ins. It took months, but I've finally given up on them. They don't fully absorb and I get flaky hair a couple days after styling.

Hit:

Oyin burnt sugar pomade
I've had my jar for ages but I couldn't find a use for it as I've been doing wash & go's. But now that my hair is stretched, I love how smooth, soft and shiny my hair gets when I seal with this. Only drawback is that the scent is too strong and clashes with my perfumes so I only use it at night now.
