October 2015: Hits & Misses

APB's Broccoli hair creme- used this on my freshly relaxed, flat-ironed hair with the Green powerhouse oil and my hair has been feeling like :bdance:ever since!
Affirm fiberguard relaxer- perfect balance of texture left over
Grapeseed oil- perfect for oil rinses and flat ironing

Continued hits:
Redken Extreme strength builder plus protein masque
Silk Dreams RCA

Hit: APB's Lemon Detox Mask
I love this stuff! The application was smooth, could even detangle a bit. Put it on freshly cleansed hair and sat under the dryer for 30 minutes...my hair was so soft and smooth. Definitely getting more for BF. The scent was very refreshing; a mix of lemongrass and peppermint.

Official Miss: APB's Refresher Sprays
I think I like the leave ins better. I will find a way to use these up though.

Unexpected Hit: Layering Smooth n' Shine W/Silk Protein and Silk Element's Heat Protection Creme on damp hair then proceeding to blow-dry and partially flat-ironing my hair (still have 3 sections to do). My hair is soft, relatively straightened and it smells nice.

Miss: Now if I could only remember NOT to comb my hair. I keep forgetting combs shred my hair. Maybe I need to try a seamless comb.

Initial Hit:
DevaCurl Decadence No-Poo
DevaCurl Decadence One Condition
DevaCurl Supercream Coconut curl cream
DevaCurl Ulta Defining gel

Used these for the first time and it was the easiest wash day that I've had in a long time. Super easy to detangle my hair and style. I honesty didn't want it to work cause of the price but when I woke up to a bomb twist out, rarely do I get this much definition. I had the hand in hair scenario all day because it just felt so soft. I'm going to test out the products a couple weeks to see if it's really love or just a fluke

Initial/new hits:

- Nairobi Exquisite Hydrating Detangling Shampoo - I pre-shampooed with my oil mix and shampooed with this. Felt like conditioner. I didn't want to chance it by not conditioning afterwards but my hair felt really smooth when I rinsed it out.

- Nairobi Detoxifying Shampoo - didn't have any "quats" or "cones" in it and makes everything clean. It chelates also.

Continued hits:

- Nutress moisturizing protein packets - always amazing. Worked on both my daughter's hair and mine.

Miss/hit:

- Proclaim Intense Hydrating Masque - I've never had something be a hit and miss at the same time... this masque sucked the water out of my hair on contact (my hair was soaking wet when I began to put it on and after it touched my hair it didn't even have a hint of dripping water). I steamed and my hair felt hard... I rinsed after a few hours and still hard. I drenched my head in Shea Moisture's Kids Detangling spray before combing and few hairs came out but my hair was so, so tangled. I blow dried and afterwards my hair felt smooth and normally moisturized. However.... That was Sunday and just today (Friday) I'm washing/deep conditioning again only because my scalp was itching. Usually I have to wash every few days. Unsure if I'll use this again because of the tangles it caused while wet. Maybe it was prayer that made it turn out ok

Continued Hits:
Silk Dreams Shea What Deux
Soultanicals Sorrell Kink Drink and Marula Muru
Oyin Hair Dew
Shea Moisture Superfruit Complex 10-in-1 Mask

New Hit:
Soultanicals Knot Butter. While I ADORE Marula Muru, I was looking for something moisturizing without glycerin for the colder months. This is perfect. The texture is a lot like MM, creamy and smooth. Not really a butter consistency. It is a tad thicker than Hair Dew. VERY moisturizing. I use it to 'seal' in my leave-ins and my hair is left soft and moisturized all week. Soultanicals has done it again.
Soultanicals new shipping policy!!

Need to revisit
Soultanicals Curl Elastic. I tried it on dry hair and it was MUCH better. My hair was left super soft and fluffy. The problem is that I don't typically DC on dry hair unless I am trying to use something up. Will pick up another jar during BF to play in it some more.

As you can see, I am LOVING this line. Stocking up on BF.

So glad to hear this review on the Knot Butta. I ordered the Knot Pumpkin and I have the Knot Berry to try.

First Impressions Miss: Renpure Argan Oil Shampoo
So I looked at the ingredients and saw Cocomidapropyl Betaine. Every cleanser that I've used that made my hair feel brittle had this ingredient high on the list, which means this acts as a clarifier for my hair. While I do like to start with a clean slate, I like to start with a GENTLE clean slate.
Now I see why poo bars and As I Am Cleansing Pudding, as well as Shea Moisture Shampoos worked for me as moisturizing poos; they do not contain this ingredient.
So I won't say it's necessarily a MISS, just a MISS for what I need in a cleanser.

Continued Hits (in no particular order)
Siamese Twists Products
Sweet Nature By Eddie's Dream Cream
Hairveda's Acai Phyto Berry Conditioner
Jakeala's Green Tea Hair Oil
Bel Nouvo's Coco Castor Nectar (Hair Spritz)

Misses (for me):
Soultanicals Fluffalicious (consistency changed from when it 1st launched)
Soultanicals Moroccan Silky Silk (probably should have tried it on wet/damp hair)

*Neither will be a repurchase unless someone tells me how they're using them successfully*

Hit

Vadik Brahmi/Amla Oil.

Used as a prepoo and then a tiny amount after my hair is styled. I like this oil so far. Softer hair, less shedding, and seems to help combat breakage as I wrap my hair for the night. I'm next going to try letting it sit in my hair overnight, then wash in the morning. The smell is tough, but worth it. I'm going to exclusively use this oil for a while to see what kind of results I get from extended use. The base of this brand is Sesame Seed oil as opposed to other brands that use mineral oil...
I just dislike the smell

I've wanted to try that oil for a while. It is light?
It is thats all I have been using. Im going to co wash this weekend and try out the babassu oil and mint deep conditioner from the same company. My scalp is going to love it I just know

MISS
-mixed chicks for kids leave in conditioner. I got a sample and added a little jojoba to it, and coconut oil on the ends. Felt fine going on wet hair. But after drying :nono: my bantu knot out feels crispy

Ok/good:

- Isoplus Conditioning Pac
- Silk Elements Luxury Moisturizing conditioner

Both made my hair feel nice. Not overly impressive but not bad... They just made my hair feel 'conditioned' if that makes sense. The Isoplus didn't make my hair shine but it was soft.

Meh:

- Hair One Jojoba Masque - didn't really do much for my hair. Not bad though

Miss:

- Fantasia Deep Penetrating Mosturizing Crème - it didn't do anything "bad" to my hair but it conditioned it about as well as if I left a regular rinse out conditioner in for a while
