December 2015: Hits & Misses

Hit: Smooth Naturals Perfect Moisture Hair Milk
I tested this on a small section on my nape. This is the first item from Smooth Naturals for hair that has actually worked.
The consistency is very similar to the Ultimate Hair Treat, very creamy and emollient. Nice amount of slip too. It smells like cucumber melon or melons, if that makes sense. It made that area very, very soft. As with most of her products, it doubles as a body lotion. I used some on my hands and it made them soft as well.
Ladies, if you like the Ultimate Hair Treat, you will definitely like this one.

Continued Hit: APB Leave Ins
Need I say more?

Thank you @PJaye Hit: APB Hair and Body Butta
Maaaaaan, I forgot just how good this stuff was!! Suuuuuper absorbent with no greasy feeling whatsoever on skin, excellent sealent on hair (sealed in that nape area with it). One of my staple buttas along with Bask and Bloom's Amazon Butta.

Miss: Trying new scents from APB and realizing you have to get more things in those scents after swearing you are on a no buy

Unintentional Hit:
Daily intake of protein powder via juicing or a homemade smoothie. I workout most days of the week and take protein after my work outs as well as in the morning if I'm in a rush. On days I don't workout I make sure I take at least half a serving. It's just part of the "healthy lifestyle" I've developed over the past 2 years along with lean meats, lots of veggies, lots of water, and good fats. I've noticed that when I'm consistent about taking it daily my nails and hair benefit greatly. Growth is more consistent in both areas. So while it's not the reason I take protein, it's a great side effect.

Hit: Shescentit White Chocolate Pumpkin Cowash
I used this after shampooing so I cannot attest to its cleansing abilities. It foams nicely and is a tad bit thicker than the regular blueberry cowash. It has a little bit more slip when applied than the blueberry. Like the blueberry cowash, when it is washed out, it does not provide very much moisture. The smell is great and it really helped to detangle! I used 1/4th the bottle and I have BSL hair.

On the fence:
APB White chocolate mask
I used this previously with Curl junkie repair me and had good results, but used by itself it falls short. It is too thick of a DC for my hair and offers no slip. My hair also didn't feel very moisturized. The chocolate scent is nicealthough it is a bit artificial.

Miss: Chi Products. I used two products out of three I purchased (the blue bottle Moisturizing Conditioner and the Argan Oil and Moringa Conditioner) slightly coated my hair and didn't really moisturize so I returned all 3 and got the Macadamia Oil Moisturizing Rinse instead.

Ok Hit: Cantu Kids Detangler. It definitely detangles better than anything else I've used. The only thing I will say is that it doesn't condition as well as my Aveeno when my hair dries but I think I'm used to Aveeno "saving the day" when conditioners aren't good and this one didn't really do that with my failed CHI products. That's ok though because it still does what it says and I just need to get better rinse out conditioners.

Hit:
Mixing Bekura YAM Nectar with my DCs. Adds a nice boost of moisture and I don't need much of it. Should have gotten more jars during her sale.

Miss:
SD Go Moist Shampoo. It is stripping and leaves my hair dry and tangled. To be fair, my hair hates most shampoos and most leave my hair feeling the same way. Won't be repurchasing.

I've been eyeballing APB products....

I hadn't pulled the trigger because I wasn't sure how my relaxed hair would behave. Seems ok for relaxed heads huh?

HITS:
- Working in sections. If you feel you have 4c hair and/or fractals I cannot stress this enough!!!
- KCKT thinned out with coconut water, applied warmed (little to no flaking)
- KCCC thinned out with distilled water (little to no flaking)

Hit: Safflower oil. This stuff made my hair very soft.

Miss: Johnson and Johnson's Kids Detangler. Not bad but it didn't offer any kind of moisture. It still detangled though. Going back to Shea Moisture Kids Detangler or Aveeno Leave In Treatment.
