What don't you like about YT hair demos?

For me:
Talking way too much and saying the same thing over and over
Poor lighting
Inability to clearly see the style or hair (mainly if the person is outside of camera shot)
Loud music in the background

What don't you like?

In some of Kimmaytube's videos, she records the voice after making the vid., I like that. How can I do that? It's so clear and to the point.

I don't like watching wig tutorials where they spend the first 3 min talking about how much they love XYZ brands of wigs, how they decided to try something new. Then spent 6min talking about all the combs, teeth and 'feeling'..

I'd much rather watch a video under 3min with it already on. One woman (Muffin's) take a long time styling her wigs (I sub and love her channel) but her styling techniques don't work for me and my hair texture.

So yeah, if they could show the finished or partial steps before completion I'd prefer that more.

Others:
yelling at kids in the background
Step 1,2,3,4 videos to get a point across

Definately agree on not being able to see what they are doing/seeing the style. It's like they get ready to do the most important step, but ya see nothing. Then taaadaaa the do is done. Also when the talking is too low, with or without music. I've never done YT, so I don't know what goes into it, but if you gonna talk I need to hear you clearly.

Yup. Do all the talking about whatever and have 10sec of style time, and then the vid cuts off.:lachen:

Fine 4s She makes a voice track with a mic then lays it over the video when she edits it. It's pretty easy to do as long as you get editing software.

The best videos for me are the ones that take their time to explain proper technique (i.e. hold your tool like this to get better control) and that pre-plan their talking points.

When some just talk without getting to the point, I start tuning out.

i hate long videos with alot of talking and no visual stimulation. i have a low attention span

I get a little annoyed by poor sound/video quality, being blinded by back lighting, and uber loud music/low talking voice simultaneously.

Slightly OT: What's the best camera to use for recording YT vids? PM me or put it in my profile vids please. (Not trying to take over the thread) Thank you so much.

-Poor lighting
-Too loud music
-Singing (Every time a YT'er starts singing, it makes me so aggravated - even if she sounds good)
-Too much cursing
-Talking on the phone

The endless nonstop pointless talking! I'm sorry, but this has been bothering me for a looooong time. If you are gonna make a YouTube video please....... For the love DOG!!!! Write something down before you make it!! Have a general outline of what you wanna say, even if you don't wanna go the extra mile and make a script, Pic a topic and stick to it!

I don't care about the weather were you are, or if your dog is sick, or about the crazy rave you were at last nite and that's why you got bags. When I search for "twist out" videos on YouTube, that's all i wanna know about. Nothing else. Period. If it doesn't have to do with the style or technique you are posting about, keep it to yourself.

Whew...... I had to get that off my chest. More power to everyone who makes YT videos. Appreciate the knowledge

I saw a YT video recently of a girl who was talking rapidly and changed the subject every time a new thought dropped in her mind. :nono:

Also, while I enjoy a good product review, I don't want to feel like I am watching an informercial for a product. Bullet point the good, the bad and the in-between about the product then move on. Also, product pushers without considering that others won't use the product for pricing, availability or ingredients. Suggest alternatives.

I like when the key points are written. That way when I'm fast forwarding I still read the info.

I hate when they talk forever about what they want to do, but then when its time to get started, don't fully go over the steps or show it once and then in the next shot, they are finishing up.

I also hate when they have to do something special for a step, but then just show the finished product or say well maybe I'll do a vid on this part later. Well that doesn't help me now!

Videos past 10 minutes do not get played by me.
Spending 7 minutes talking about something completely unrelated to the title of the video
I cuss (a lot) but for some reason I don't like it on Youtube videos. I know, weird.
Loud background distractions
Unsteady camera like they're holding it in their hand
Showing your draws :look:
Bad lighting

I click off the video when the camera is shaky cause they are holding it in their hand. I hate when the music is sooo loud I can barely hear what the YT is saying...

I also find most are way too long...under 5 minutes is preferred by me but I rarely see any around that length.
- I agree I hate when they are talking to people/scolding children in the background.
- hate when they are chewing gum or candy - I think they should make the video as if they are doing it for work, for some reason I expect that kind of professionalism - I'm just particular I guess.

Too much talking. I watch YT videos for tutorials and tips. I hate when I click on a video to watch a tutorial and find 8 mins. of talking and 2 mins. of demonstration.

I find myself fast forwarding through those long winded videos just to see how they did the style and the results of it, that's all I mainly wanna see. I don't mind some talking but man some of these vids are just too much.

I'm the opposite of what everyone else said about voice overs....I don't like them. I got turned off of Kimmay's vids because of them but I do appreciate all the effort and time that everyone puts into making yt videos.

ETA....I take that back about the voice-over's....I think it's just certain ones that I don't like. Kimmay's sound like a commercial so I think that's what turned me off.

  • I hate the ones with the kids in the background making noise
  • Poor lighting and poor resolution, esp when they're talking about how well you blended the hair
  • I hate it when YTbers who made their channel all about hair start branching into other areas like make-up and nails, although I do like to see they've got other interests.
  • I don't like long winded explanations. I'd prefer if they sped up the video a little when styling

I hate videos that make me go to a separate blog or site to see the end result. That irks the mess outta me.

I understand you wanna promote your site BUT dont tease me! Especially if I am browsing on my phone. Going to an outside site isnt always a simple click away

 I don't mind rambling as long as it's productive rambling. I've ran across alot of sisters that talk about various things WHILE they're doing their hair and I honestly don't mind as long as it's a topic I care about and I can see good results. With hair videos I don't mind, with tech vids and tuts, I do.

Get out of my head. I watched a How to Cut a Bang tutorial. The chick yapped for like 9 minutes and then cut the bang in the last 30 seconds. Get to the freaking point! Put the need to know stuff as a caption, in the description box, or do a voice over. I don't need all the foreplay just get down to the nitty gritty.

Some of the things I don't like:

1. Bad lighting
2. Fuzzy picture
3. Jerky camera
4. Playing with pets
5. Loud noises in the background accompanied by the statement "ignore that" - really can't they find a better time to make this video.
6. Excessive talking about nothing - unless they have BSL and longer hair
that I can stare at while they ramble on. :lick:

-Talking too much (just get to the review)
-Reviews that are pure talking (I want a review and an end result)
-Reviewing something and then stating that something else is in your hair at the time of the review (WTH?).
-Noise in the background

*takes notes*
how do ya'll feel about... ahem... accents? in my speech class, i got points taken off for it.

oh, and music?

1. Lip-smacking

2. Messy rooms

3. Being critical of other people in a passive-agressive manner (their technique, product, hair type, etc.)
