Steaming Challenge 2012 - Part 1

Has anyone ever done a hot oil treatment under the steamer?

I'm thinking about doing it tomorrow or wednesday.

How are yall burning your scalps?!? :burning:
I started steaming in 2009 after my bc down to like 1 inch of hair.. and I've never had that happened (fingers crossed that it never does!)

If it isn't too late I'd love to join!
I will be steaming once per week (but on occasions I will do it twice per week, but I'm only committing to once)
I have a steamer that I bought from a salon that went out of business.
The conditioners that I will be using will vary. I use kind of whatever I have in the house and I like to buy a lot of different conditioners (when I find them on sale). At the moment I am steaming with one of those Sauve Naturals and I love to use the AO HSR.

Steamed yesterday for 40 minutes with black tea rinse under Crece Pelo Phitoterapeutic Treatment. Loved the results, hair felt soft and moist but strong. Also very little shedding.

Alright, so I cooked up an idea...

I love steaming with oils.

I love steaming with creamy stuff.

So I'm gonna do both with each steaming session. First, I'll spray my hair with water and top with a little bit of oil. Steam that in for 20 minutes or so. Then I'll top the oil with something creamy and steam with that for another 20 or so minutes. :lick:

So tonight, I steamed with Sapote Oil  then topped (and am now steaming) with Camille Rose Moisture Butter. :lick:

I've been thinking about doing this but sitting under the steamer twice IDK. Sitting still for that long drives me crazy!

Shay72 Oh, I love it! If I could steam all day, I would. Having kids, it's about the only quiet time that I get!

IDareT'sHair Yas! :lick: The Moisture Butter has Rice Milk or Aloe Vera Juice as the first ingredient, so I consider it more of a moisturizer than a butter. Plus, it's super creamy. I just love it. :lick:

Next time I steam, Imma use hemp oil and Qhemet AOHC. I can't wait!!! :yay:

I is sad..:cry4:

I was SUPER excited and ready to steam with oil last night.

After applying the oil I got my steamer prepped w/ distilled water and turned the thing on.

Well to my dismay.. it started making a weird bubbling noise (like the sound of adding water to an already hot iron), and then hot water started to pour from the slits on the steamer on to my floor.

I called LCL this morning.. and of course my steamer is out of warranty (bought it back in 2009) :nono:

The guy gave me some trouble shooting advice (that I will try when I get home from work) and if his tips do not work, then I would have to pay $75 to have them fix my machine.. plus the $20+ for shipping from TX.

Yay.

yaya24 for that much you might as well get a new one from them off ebay. I think I paid $88 for mine. Btw, faithVA steams with oils and she is the one that put me on to steaming that way

yaya24 I agree with Ms._Tiki, for that amount you should buy a new one if you can afford it.

I saw a yt video about steaming with oils which is why I started. But to be honest I rarely steam. I found my hair does better with just using a heat cap. Not sure why. But I still have my steamer so I will probably give it another try in the spring.

Thanks ladies!

Thats the same thing the guy at LCL said (worst case scenario to buy another one vs shipping my old one out for repair.. )

I'll report back after I mess with it tonight. :yep:

This is for you. I've been steaming with oils only on Wednesday nights for a while now. But I recently decided to add another weekly dc so I was kind of sad that I had to replace my oil steam with a dc steam. Thanks to you I will be getting under the steamer 2x night. First with cocasta oil then back under there with I'm not sure what dc yet.

I wanna do it! But I don't have a steamer...DH is already annoyed by my rolling hair dryer (although...it is da bomb). So, my plan is to use the steam room at the Y! LOL I can't sit in there for 30 min. but I think 10 min should do the trick. As for what to use...I dunno. Still figuring that out. I think tomorrow (my first attempt at steam room steaming) I will use Heaven in Hair by DevaCurl. Not sure if I will repurchase, however, and I think I will use my entire stash on DC'ing tomorrow. I plan to steam 1 x per week on Thursdays when I go to water aerobics. If i miss Thursday, then Sat. We'll see if it works!

Steamed with AOHC and hemp oil for about an hour. Forgot to steam with the oil first  but my hair is still verrah happy. Feels like a soft and fluffy cloud.

Gawd, I love steaming. Sofa king much.

:cloud9: <--- Me on a cloud of steam

okay.
So my steamer is not broken.
There is a little hole in the detachable container that you fill with water...

SAME THING HAPPENED OCTOBER 2010.

I am calling LCL now to order a replacement.
It should be pretty inexpensive to replace.

Last year they sent me a free one because I refused to pay..:look:

yaya24 How do you think it happened? Are you taking it off and putting it back on? If so, may I suggest just filling it throw the refill hole on the top. Maybe that will keep it from happening again.

^^ Ms. Tiki,

I have the model below and the red arrow (that I made) is pointing at the thingy I am talking about.

Unfortunately I have to remove it and fill it with water to get my steaming on.

I honestly do not know why its doing that. I do not drop it, ever.

@yaya24

I have the exact same Steamer.

The same thing happened to me about a year and a half ago. Water was just pouring out and I had a "Hairline" Crack in the Water Reservoir Thing.

It was invisible to the 'naked eye' because it was right along the line where the Octagon thing is and you couldn't even see it.

Then I remembered I had dropped it on the kitchen floor one time, which may have caused the Crack.:ohwell:

I ended up ordering 2. They were like 24.99 each.

Glad yours wasn't broken, and I was so relieved when I realized it was the Water Reservoir, but I had my CC out ready to order another one.:look:

I won't be w/o my Steama'

So I did my first steam room steam today. It was cool, but I didn't quite factor in the fact that I'm steaming at night. I'm doing curly girl, so I use a leave-in and air dry. Only, there are not enough hours left before I go to bed to air dry. I *could* sit under the dryer, but that's a lot o' work! LOL. So I'm sleeping in the conditioner tonite. Probably will just sit under the dryer from now on. I just wasn't mentally prepared for all that today. How bad is it that I spent most of my aerobics class thinking about how I was going to be conditioning my hair in the steam room later! :lachen:

ETA: Oh, I steamed with DevaCurl Heaven in Hair for 10 minutes. It's pretty intense in the steam room. I was a little light headed due to a tough workout (after a break over the holidays) and not a lot to eat. I'll be better prepared next time! I'll post about the outcome tomorrow!
