What are the three things that you have discovered that has really helped your hair to thrive? It can be products, techniques, practices, whatever, but what have YOU discovered that has really turned your hair around and that you will never give up.

I'll start...

1. Co-washing (never heard of it before... bonafide addict now)
2. Steamer (my splurge for the new year and it was worth every penny)
3. Moisture moisture moisture! (I rarely moisturized my hair pre LHCF unless it was wash day... chile I couldn't be weighing down my pin straight wrapped do!)

C'mon ladies... give it up!

Cowashing (This is a godsend)
Baggying (My ends used to be SO dry and break like crazy)
My cotton leggings to dry my hair after I wash. (I put the part for the bum over my head and wrap the legs around like a turban)
I also use the cotton leggins when I overnight DC I put it over my plastic cap and tie it like a turban. (LOVE IT!!)
Micanazole Nitrate (It works!!) and
Airdrying

Thanks for the post!

The 3 things that are completely different than what I had been doing and have helped me grow my hair out are:

1. Protective Styling-I would say I never ps'd in the past, but now I find myself doing it at least half of every week if my hair is straight and down. It really helps keep your ends the less you manipulate that hair!

2. Limited Heat Styling-I have been rollersetting all summer and I love it. I can tell my hair is definitely retaining length a lot better than before. I plan to continue this from now on. Maybe getting my hair heat styled once every month or 6 wks.

3. Moisture/Protein Balance-I didn't know the difference or why you used one or the other! I have kept my ends healthy by moisturizing and sealing! I love it...

Since joining LHCF, the major reason my hair thrived is because I listen to it. The main things that my hair tells me is to:

1. Give it protein (I already had the moisture part down, hence the reason I needed the protein)
2. Keep It Simple (In other words, I only wash it once I week & I mostly wear wigs)
3. Pay attention to the ingredients (Nowadays, I look at the ingredients before I look at the product description. If I'd adopted this practice sooner, I wouldn't have gone through the trials & tribulations that I went through before.)

That was another big one for me. Pre-LHCF I would pick up a product, read the hype on the back, open it up and smell it, and don't let it be in a pretty bottle.... SOLD! :lachen: Now I look at the ingredients first and I know what to look for and what to watch out for. :yep:

Keep em' comin ladies!

1. Using quality natural products/ingredients. It made a huge difference in the health of my hair.

2. Coconut oil. It's literally my favorite thing and it has multiple uses. It definitely makes my haircare much easier.

3. Moisturizing/conditioning on a regular basis.

I LOVE  coconut oil for sealing (I only recently discovered this). I've also been gravitating towards organic products and natural ingredients as well. :yep:

1. keeping it simple!!! i'm pretty much over my PJ phase, since i've found what methods work for me.
2. deep conditioning at every wash (1x per week, for me)
3. keeping my hair up & off my shoulders as it grows between SL & APL.

these 3 things are all i need to get me to butt length :D

1. Moisturizing and sealing has made a big diff for me.

2. Less combing and manipulation.

3. PS. My half wig is a life saver. Less manipulation+protected ends+less groom time in the morning.

4. Airdrying.

1. Not relaxing bone straight - my old hairdresser would let the relaxer sit as long as you could stand it to get it straight. It would be straight and I would have relaxer burns!!

2. Minimal heat - Using the curling/flat iron almost daily!!!

3. More frequent washing- used to go to the hair dresser every two weeks and would try to make my style last until the next visit

4. Protein- it really is my friend!

I rejoined LHCF and this time around I'm doing EVERYTHING differently

1) texlaxing

2) bunning (back in 2005 I rolled my eyes when I read about bunning on here lol)

3) It took a while... but this site finally beat into my head how important protein is. I don't know why I thought I was an exception :nono: lol

My hair is now the longest it's been since I was 11.

co-washing (esp daily)
airdrying
keeping it simple ( although tech i did figure that out just before coming to lhcf) no big routine needed.

Great thread!

1.) Cowashing
2.) Stretching
3.) Moisturizing/Sealing the ends with oil

Those 3 methods combined made my hair take off like a rocket. Learning those 3 things alone was worth every penny of the subscription fee. :yep:

1. frequent washing/cowashing

2. deep conditioning - has helped me maintain my moisture/protein balance .

3. airdrying - my hair feels so much healthier since I started doing this, and it has allowed me to use very minimal heat.

1. Co-washing
2. Less Trimming
3. Moisturizing and Sealing (especially my ends)

......I went from APL to the bottom of my brastrap in about 6 months. This is the longest my hair has ever been. I have never actually allowed my hair to grow beyond APL so it is a fun adventure for me to see how long my hair can grow! My mother's hair was waist length at it's longest and everybody else, friends and family, were under the impression that my hair "mussee can't grow dat long!"....tried to tell them all that I always cut my hair and never tried to see if it could get to my mother's length but of course everyone was like "whateva ya hair just can't" :wallbash:....no use trying to explain I am now showing them so it's like :eh: wha ya gat ta say now!!

1. Texlaxing and stretching touchups to 4 times a year
2. Washing weekly with conditioner (co-washing)
3. Moisturizing my ends daily

Honorable mention goes to : Getting rid of direct heat and Protecting my hair at bedtime

Heat-free/low manipulation styles--learning how to do this has saved me sooo many times during my stretches

PROTEIN- turned my hair around!

Co-washing

Moisture daily/DCing weekly

Dusting regularly

-Castor oil
-Roller setting
-Stretching

My hair was doing so well when I was rollersetting or airdrying it, but as soon as I start going to the salon my hair broke off! So now I am transitioning getting ready to BC!

I just joined but have been looking through the site for about a month now. The 3 most important things I have learned that work for me:

1. Co-wash: especially when I exercise because I sweat alot through my head

2. Protein/moisture balance: still unsure about this and which I need because I still have ALOT of breakage after protein treatments and I deep condition each week

3. minimal heat/airdrying: I was too lazy to flat iron my hair during my last relaxer stretch and noticed my hair felt thicker after the following relaxer, so this I like :look:

It's hard to only pick 3! :drunk:

Here are the most important things that I think helped me:

1) Daily moisture 2x a day - especially my ends (never did this before)

2) Protective styling most of the time (I bun daily now because of the Hide Your Hair Challenge)

3) Co-washing (I do this 3-4x a week)

I DC'd weekly before LHCF, so now that I've added other things that I learned here, my hair is finally thriving!

Cowashing: I thought this sounded crazy the first time I joined, but it does wonders for my hair.
Texlaxing: Didn't know there was a term for underprocessing and following of ladies that swear by it!
Pre-Poo: Has helped my hair trive

Well I have learned several things, but the most beneficial are:

1. Co-washing -- need I say more?
2. Ingredients -- non SLS shampoo, organic condish, virgin oils
3. Bone straight relaxers are not my friends -- never again in life.
