Pre-LHCF: What were you doing wrong?

Never DC....or thought i could DC with any old conditioner
moisturized with Pink Oil faithfully
flat iron every other day with grease
never cared for ends
would sleep without a silk scarf on cotton pillowcase
would sleep with wet hair on cotton pillowcase (yiiikes)

not enough moisture, tooooooooooo much heat ! and not enough washing... geez wow my habits were really bad... the funny thing is ppl used to still say my hair looked great! but i knew it could be 10x better and longer

NEVER used a heat protectant and would blow dry and flat iron my hair weekly
Relaxing my hair almost monthly
Never moisturized and sealed
I used to grease my scalp...which never really helped at all
Didn't know the difference between protein and moisturizing conditioners
Never really kept my hair hydrated/moisturized

Using mineral oil based moisturizers, brushing my hair with hard, plastic bristle brushes, combing my hair with fine toothed combs, relaxing even the pre-relaxed ends, shampooing and rarely ever using conditioner, using those ponytail holders with the metal bands on the other side, the list goes on and on...

1. Confusing grease with moisturizers
2. Combing from root to tip
3. Combing with fine-toothed combs
4. Putting my hair's health in the stylist's hands
5. Not moisturizing my ends
6. Greasing my scalp
7. Brushing my hair (brushing has never stimulated growth for me; it only took my hair out)
8. Not knowing about moisture/protein balance
9. Not knowing about clarifying the hair (I thought my hair was clarified whenever it felt stripped)
10. Not being educated about product ingredients (In fact, I would never even read the ingredients; I only read the product description)
11. Shampooing my hair and not my scalp
12. Not using a leave-in conditioner (I wasn't even really familiar with them)

Confusing grease with moisturizers, NOT looking at the ingredients, using heat everyday, not knowing about the SCIENCE of hair care and just thinking that since it looks nice on the outside that's all that matters!

I was using Pink Lotion and Moisture Max religiously. I thought that having shiny, greasy, hair was the best thing. I also flat-ironed/curled too often.

Pre-LHCF

I used heat (Professional hairdresser curling and flat irons )
I did my own highlights and used bleaching powder.
I would pull wet hair until it snapped
I wore tracks and weaves, without taking proper care of my own hair
I washed daily and blow dried without thermal protection

I was very bad to my hair.

I had a lot of very bad habits.

Washing my hair only 1x a month.
Wearing weaves for months at a time without moisturizing/oiling.
relaxing every 4 weeks when not in weaves
wearing wigs without braidout my hair and without using a wig cap
I have never deep conditioned before LHCF
Never had a protein treatment
Would go days without combing my hair because it was so dry/brittle
combing my hair with a fine tooth comb
brushing my hair to death
used glue for tracks and pulled them out myself (along with clumps of hair)
never used a leave in conditioner
never trimming/dusting my ends
using grease and blow drying my hair

I'm sure there's more... I'm surprised I still have hair!

I never got trims. I would go a year or more without even a dusting, much less a trim or cut.
I washed infrequently, and deep conditioned infrequently.
Used way too much heat...I applied a curling or flat iron to my hair practically everyday.
Relaxed too frequently for my hair type. I have fine hair that is on the thinner side and not very coarse, but I relaxed it every 6-8 weeks. Today I can go 4 months without a relaxer and my hair still looks great.
I never read the labels of the products I use.
I used way too much grease.

This list can go one for days.... thank God, I found LHCF and won't be making these mistakes anymore

dang where do i begin?

1) i knew nothing of protien vs moisture - so never conditioned with respect to that -
2) would go in the bss, stare at the bottles and pick up what looked good. it was the luck of the drawer - got lucky with ors replenishing and lekair cholestrol, but could not understand for the life of me why they only sometimes worked
3) when my hair would inevitably begin to fall out - i would get super fustrated and wack it the rest of the way off and then repeat the lovely cycle again - till i discovered this place, now it's a new ride!

never DCing
using direct heat daily
self-relaxing incorrectly
never moisturizing
not using protein for protection from chemical services & direct heat
letting stylist "trim" my hair all the time or trimming my own hair after each relaxer
relaxing too often for my hair
not believing that my hair would ever grow really long

It's amazing how lack of belief can prevent you from even trying to grow long hair. I suffered from that for years and also combed my hair a million times a day and got a 1-2 inch trim every relaxer. :nono:
