OK, but are they saying that you CANT? Or that the Majority still like long hair?

That's what I mean by sharing the whole story.

[/ QUOTE ]

YES THERE ARE PEOPLE THAT ARE SAYING YOU CAN'T ALSO NATURAL HAIR ISN'T SYNONYMOUS WITH SHORT HAIR, so even if the majority of men like LONG hair it doesn't mean that being natural excludes you from having LONG hair.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ok...you thought the same thing.

asking you..what is the WHOLE TRUTH?

The truth is that natural hair is beautiful and it's a beautiful thing seeing women that can do some many things with natural hair. I thought that's what this thread was all about. Right?

People calling people liars and Anti-Natural.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, BUT, someone telling me that I'm not being fully honest in detailing MY own experience is the same as saying that I'm lying...

Yeah, Afashionslave, that's it.

What you just said, I call honest, cause you admit that some women have serious trouble with unstraighten hair. And they use myth, like a fairytale.

Probably, Misconception is better but that is just word play. Some of the posts I read, made a general statement and response.

Like - Myth - Natuarl hair is hard to manage.
Truth - It can be managed.

Ok, because it can be managed, does not mean it may or may not be hard. At least initially.

See what I mean. So when I said be honest in the response I really mean, do just say it's a myth but that it is a fact that can be overcome.

Pretty much. The goal was to dispel some myths surrounding natural hair.

But what's difficult for one person may be easy for someone else. For ME, natural hair is not difficult to manage. However, that's not saying that someone else won't have a problem initially. If you've never really had to do your own hair before, then yes, you may have an interesting dilemma at first...but THAT is not MY experience...

Yes Mindy. People have said to me over and over and over again that "I won't be able to get a man with nappy hair" A lot of folks actually BELIEVE this stuff - and it's not just a few people. Over the years I have come in contact with more people who believe this as truth than I have people who realize that it isn't fact. We as black folks believe a lot of ignorant things about our own hair natural hair.

In an effort to keep the peace I think she was just saying that it maybe should have been written(for example)

Myth: Natural hair is hard to manage
Truth: While for some people it may be hard to manage at first, it does get easier when you know how to take care of natural hair.

Ms K, your right and I think were on the same page when you say "Some are, but All are not".

Just as All people are not quoting the "myths" that are said here.

And I just used the degree, to say that all black people are'nt ignorant yes I know there are educated fools out there tons. But i personally kinda resent when people say we brainwashed, like we can't just make a decision based on our personal preference.

I had a person tell me Christians are Brainwashed by white folk into Chrisitanity. Kinda the same feeling for me. Why can't I just make a decision based on facts..

Although well intended, that example can be said of just about anything, INCLUDING hair that is relaxed or texturized...

It is MY BELIEF that if someone thinks that their natural God given hair is unnattractive they are brainwashed...babies don't go thinking that something on them is ugly until someone trains (brainwashes) them to think so.

Why...someone please tell me why...

Why is it that when a natural thread is started...and the naturals defend THEIR experience...it turns into drama and we need eduction on how we word things?

If there is a format for wording a natural question so that others will not be offended...will someone please forward it to me so that I can state things properly and cover ALL scenarios?

It is disheartening that a thread like this...that was going so well and so uplifting and encourageing and helping us naturals not to feel ALONE... has to be chastised because we used the word MYTH.

It really hurts.

Wow! Try to keep the peace and get attacked

Anyway....
It's a shame that such an uplifting thread turned out this way.I was enjoying this. I guess it was good while it lasted.

Fourthly, why in God's name are you so anti-natural hair for black women?

[/ QUOTE ]

I never said or implied that, in fact I said, we should strenghten/encourge those going natural by teaching them and not giving false hope.

You relaxed initially Why?

For me it was cause my hair was hard work, pressing or I never liked twists or braids, when I got over 16 so it was fro and I had bigger than Angela Davis fro. I blew dryed with a comb attachment to get it semi styleable, keep in mind that in the 70's 80's people did'nt wear twists, locs so I'm just not used to the new style, for my hair.

I think it looks nice on people, it's just not for me. So the statement that unstragithen hair is for everyone is just not true.

I'm not against it for anyone else. Like Pooh said in a thread, I seen albums soooo pretty and am jealous that I don't have the time/patience/skill to do those styles and others, well that's already been discusse.

Oh well...have a great day yall...Happy growing!

Sillygurl-
I don't think she was trying to be mean either. However, when someone details THEIR experience and someone comments that they aren't being completely honest, it DOES come off the wrong way.

That being said, Can we recapture the positivity of this thread?

What false hope? I don't see false hope, I see people encouraging others to wear their natural hair with pride and educating them on the misconceptions in the black community about natural hair.

[ QUOTE ]

You relaxed initially Why?

[/ QUOTE ]

My mother put it in my hair w/o my permission as a child. And I kept the relaxer until this year because I live in a society that says that straight hair is better and if you don't have curly or wavy hair you NEED to relax it because that's the ONLY way.

It was hard because you were trying to style it like straight hair.

If God gave you nappy hair then it's FOR YOU, but if you choose to straighten it that's your business.
