I live in the DMV (D.C., MD, Va area) and I was going to start "saving" for my visit to the salon. But I thought they DID do a strand test. Isn't that the whole "consultation" appointment? To see you hair type and what services you would benefit from? And then if you decide to get services done, you can use the money from the consultation towards your service? I thought they told you off the break if a silkner would help to bring out your curl (if you have any) or if you would just benefit from some other style to create definition (twist out, coil out, etc.) I swear I thought that was the whole point so that you won't just go in there expecting results that may or may not be produced on your head. Has that changed?

I don't think they are making appointments anymore anyway. I tried back in june when I was was going to be up North and I remember hearing that they were focusing more on the products and decided to close the shop down.

Please let me know if I was wrong!!!

Since they offer smaller sizes of their products, I may try the buttercreme. I'm covering my hair up, so I'll hold off on the pudding since it's styling product.

i took advantage of their sale and i am not sure i like the stuff

for one the curly pudding leaves flakes in your hair. i put it in dry hair, wet hair, used a little, used a lot and all i see is flakes. yuck

then the stuff is very expensive:nono: i took advantage of the buy 1 get 1 free sale but i can't afford this stuff. with shipping and tax it cost $50 and if i used the amount she suggested then the jar would last be barely a month :ohwell:

Their shingling method seems as though it may be difficult to duplicate or maintain in between salon visits so for that purpose I wouldn't even bother with such high maintenance hair.

$600 tho???? I don't care if they crawled in my ears to my scalp and started to knit and then physically push the hair through my follicles & down to my butt. . . i couldn't see me paying for that. i don't even know WHAT hairstyle/treatment WOULD be worth that much in my opinion. . . then again money is ALWAYS an issue with me. imma broke college student. :lachen:

NO.
I, like yourself wanted to go and did not mind paying for the service. After having experienced a visit to Ms. Jessie's it was a total waste of money. The services that were perfomred, Silkener, Color and Cut are not worth $600.00. I was not blown away with the final results. I realize that they cannot create the texture, only bring it out. Tiki was not impressed with my results herself. I was told that on my next visit,, that they would keep it on my hair a little longer becuase I take longer to breakdown. Well for $600, you should be able to determine that. If you feel that your services are worth that kind of money, the results should be no less than.. spectacular...stunning... fabulous...extraordinary...each and everytime.

Damn right! For $600 I should look like a MAJOR movie star when I leave that salon.

I wont be visiting the salon anytime soon, but I will say that their Rapid Recovery Treatment is the business. My friend bought it after the lady in the store recommended it even for relaxed hair. And I will say that I have noticed a difference in my hair. It leaves the hair soft and smelling like heaven. I noticed a difference in the texture of my hair when I didn't use it after relaxing my hair last week. I know the price is steep but...it is worth it. Trust me!!!

I had an awful experience at Ms. Jessies.

I went for a cut and shingle...They charged me 300 dollars for a cut, color and shingle... Their shingling job was average, I could have done much better...and her products made my scalp itch like crazy!!!!!

Before I left, I informed Ti of the issue, and she kept insisting that I must have put something else in my hair, which I didn't!

And if I did...which I didn't, it would have all washed out when she clarified my hair.

Furthermore, she kept insisting on a color that I did not want. After several gentle No's from me, she got the hint. (She was trying to get me to dye my hair red, when I wanted a medium brown.)

So not Ms. Jessie's for me...:nono:

I like their products. *shrugs* I don't know how other people are using them but my twa twistouts look great (and it doesn't make my hair dry out of the ordinary); I use the buttercreme and conditioning treatment as well. Just figured I'd add a positive review.

well im in california.. i got went for my first visit and it only costed me 50 and i loved my resulted.. i didnt get styled just my curl loosened.. so i will be going back.. i feel sorry for yall in NY 600 for what i got for 50.. smh. thats 12 visits for me.

I went there for 3 years, the sister's were fighting and I had to Miko in DC 2x's because her sister Titi is a mean!@#$%!!!...she lied to clients about Miko, ...well they have made up!!1...and I'm doin the SAME STUFF at home, they are a RIP OFF!!!, my hair holds better with other stuff, they are overe priced!!!,,...and I feel bad for Miko dealing with that nutty sister of hers, it a bad situation, plus they want you to keep your appointment and they cancel on me 4x's while the were fighting!!!!
I wish I would have saved my money and time!!!

I ordered the value pack for 58.00 bucks and ordered an extra curly pudding because of all the hype. The curly pudding makes my hair flake badly and it also makes it feel very hard. The curly meringue makes my hair feel hard as well. The silk strecthening cream I am still trying to get a feel for it. I simply love the baby butter cream and curly buttercream, they are excellent moisturizers. If you blow your hair out after a good wash and condition a dry twist out would be great with the butter creams. I haven't tried the rapid recovery yet or the other products but I will come back with an update.

I would definitely order the large baby buttercream and curly buttercream.

I already made the decision to fly to NY and get the silkener but my mind is changing slowly.

I had already made the decision to fly to NY and get the silkener but my mind is changing slowly.

I bought the silk stretching creme last year during the BOGO and ended up selling it to someone else. It was thick heavy and nasty and did nothing special for my hair. I stick with Kinky Curly. My other issue is there are just too many chemicals and extra crap in their products that dont need to be there.

I liked the baby butter creme, but it isnt worth the price. There are just too many other products on the market that do the same or better and cost less.

My friend had a silkener done and regretted it. She had it done after combing down her locs. Now, she just wears her hair flat ironed. She has thick 4/b hair and they should NOT be advertising the silkening process to 4B women with pics of 3B women. Its just WRONG.

And yeah their prices are ridiculous. If I wasnt morally opposed to chemical straighteners, I'd include it in my hair styling catalogue and do that process for 1/3 of the price.

I laugh at how they are selling texturizers as "silkeners" and actually getting over on people who think its something special.

looking at the website, i would go for a balance cut but i hate some of the styles they do. some of those women look like products was slapped on their hair because it looks a greasy mess.
i love the baby buttercreme and curly meringue though.

No - i am all about paying what it's worth, and even if i had "money to burn" I wouldn't want to overpay for anything.

i don't feel like MISS JESSIE brings anything extra to the table that a local natural hair salon wouldn't bring also....

I'll say this from my own observations...I've seen people go in there for a silkener who probably expected certain results...but because of their natural curl pattern or lack there of, to me, it ended up looking like an under processed relaxer. The thing people have to remember is that the silkener doesn't create texture, it just loosens up the texture that's already there. Something for ANYONE who is thinking of getting this service to keep in mind so that you go in with realistic expectations.

A cut and style (shingling or finger stlying) runs about $225.

Nothing to add... but your hair is beautiful!
