March 2016: Hits & Misses

Tried the Shea Moisture High Porosity Masque.

For now, it's a Hit.

I have to go with @NaturallyATLPCH and @shawnyblazes on this one. Now I ain't sing to the Angels yet, more like still writing some bars, but I did like it. I do feel it could have left my hair a bit softer, but I also feel it left my hair balanced.

Upon application, it was definitely smooth and I didn't need a lot. I was able to finger detangle a bit. Not a lot, but any little assistance helps. Now I'm LP so after I wash and apply conditioner, the minute I try to smooth conditioner, I can feel that my cuticles have already closed. Every conditioner feels waxy on my hair and there was no difference here. But, as it sat, my hair actually felt soft. Now, I didn't use heat but sat with a plastic cap while I sat in the bath.

When I rinsed, conditioners always rinse easy (no surprise there) but I was able to comb detangle fairly ok. Slip is pretty decent. I used my microfiber towel and kept it on for 30 minutes. My hair was actually pretty soft. I was surprised. I wanted to hate this product, because that's my relationship with Shea Moisture, but it looks like we may be calling a small truce.

Now, like any decent lady, I'm gonna give it 3x, you know, just to be sure, but for the most part, I could see myself allowing it to be a staple.

P. S. After the 30 minutes under the towel, my hair was still wet enough to not have to implement the LCO method. I just did CO :lachen:

I like that! I wasn't inviting a symphony either, but my hair was ahead of me :lachen:.

My hair already let the beat drop. I was like hold up!

Girl!

But I definitely feel you overall. I have had a love/hate relationship with SM had thrown in the towel and they up and created this mask that my hair is in love with.
Balanced was also a good way to put it as well. Every time I touched my hair as it dried it was so soft. And I didn't have to use the L in my LCO method either now that you mentioned it!

Finding a full container of Qhemet Biologics AOHC in a container stashed away which turned soupy. I was about to toss it out but then I smelled it and looked at my order history. Still good

Hit

Since the QB AOHC melted, it sank into my hair after misting lightly and no greasy/hard feel. I still wont buy it in the future though, Love me some Qhem but those prices on the regular, I need a sugah daddy

Instant hit: Oyin Hair Dew

On dry or lightly dampened hair, this leave-in conditioner is the business. My hair has been silky smooth all day. I've probably rubbed my head a hundred times today at work to check that it was still soft. I hope they never change the formula. Long live Oyin Handmade!

That is the only leave in I've been tempted to try forever, since it's sold at Sallys now I might pick it up

I first bought the small bottle from Target to try based on seeing this thread. The next day after I tried it I ordered the liter size from Oyin's site. It's that good. It took me 9 years being natural to find a leave-in that makes my hair feel like hair and not like oiled hay. About damn time.

This is only my first couple days of using it, so it may be a fluke. But I really hope not.

Hits: Shea Moisture High Porosity Cowash and High Porosity Masque. The Masque made my hair feel balanced like the above poster stated. It made my hair super easy to detangle. The co wash made my hair feel super soft and easy to detangle as well.

Miss: SM High Porosity Styling Gel...or maybe I just don't know how to use it, but right now, it does absolutely nothing for my hair.

Continued Hit

APB Leave in Conditioner, great refresher on dry hair to re moisturize the hair and soften.
QB Amla Olive Heavy Cream melted down, great at sealing and keeping the moisture in. A dab is all you need. I will ride this soupy train out until the jar is gone

New Hit
Curl Origin Bamboo Blossom Twist and Twirl Buttercream, Great product to twist the hair with. It does give a little moisture but it does have hold so I wouldnt use it alone, very good definition, slides down the hair shaft easily. I really like this. See the Curl Origin thread for pictures of definition

MISS: Giovanni Ultra Revive Conditioner

I was so excited to see this conditioner and was immediately drawn by it's bright yellow packaging and impressive ingredients of shea butter and coconut oil in it's top five ingredients list. But looks can be deceiving, ya'll. I tried the Giovanni last night and was seriously underwhelmed. My hair was harder to detangle with my wooden bristles brush and this condish left it feeling dry after rinsing. I suspect because my hair LOVES glycerin and glycerin is high on Hairveda 24/7's list, it is at the bottom of the Giovanni ingredients list which might explain why Hairveda 24/7 leaves my hair feeling juicy, plump and moist. So the Giovanni is going back from whence it came and I will have to learn patience as I wait for my Holy Grail co-wash and leave in to soon arrive in the mail.

For those that are interested in trying the Giovanni, I got it at Whole Paycheck.
