my sex life is none existant because of my bc (birth control). I just recently made the connection 2 months ago and now i dont know what my options are....

im 24 years old.. been on depo for the past 8 years and in that time ive only missed my injection like 4 times...

my fiances only complaint with the relationship is sex... im never in the mood, and its been this way for almost 3 years.... my sex drive is nowhere to be found... he turns me on but i cant... perform... because of this damn bc... any suggestions on alts?

Girl, pleasssseeee get off that mess. 8 years?!?!? Eight years?!?! Yeah, it's killing your sex drive - and if you are lucky, it'll come back to normal once you are off of it. Once my BC started chomping into my libido, it's never come fully back to where it was before - and it was around year 7/8 of me being on the Pill.

Also, since then I've never been able to take anything that screws with my hormones - it makes me TheCrazy.

Condoms? Diaphrams? Cervical Cap? NuvaRing? IUD? Low-hormone BCP's?

My Gyn had an explanation for NuvaRing -- that it somehow allows you to retain more testosterone than traditional bc's which is supposed to enhance libido. It's only been about a month since I switched. I think it's working, but it may be the placebo effect, so I have to try it a bit longer to be sure.

I had high hopes for the NuvaRing, but it made me TheCrazy.

It doesn't sound like she's getting into the mental/hormonal rollercoaster just yet, just the straight hormonal rollercoaster - so hopefully, she won't have to worry about that aspect of it.

I was on a low dosage pill for exactly 3 months, and I realized that it obliterated my sex drive more and more, I realized this especially during the 3rd month... I also realized that it was the cause of me getting bumps on my face, something I never had before. Anyway, a few chemical peels fixed that.

Sorry to be graphic, but it came to the point where s*x just felt like a pipe being stuck in a hole w/ no real sensation or body attached to it . Also, the more I took it I realized I wasn't as wet. According to him, that bc pill fugged my pu$$y up .

We've gone back to condoms and tracking my cycle. This past cycle, I knew precisely around the time I was fertile due to my cervical mucus, I also calculated the days in my cycle and had a pretty clear idea of my 'not safe' week.

I really hope that you get off of the Depo and soon. That stuff is the debil (as my granny would say). I was on it a few years back and let me tell you, I would never do that again. The extended menstruals, the vaginal dryness, the non-existence sex drive and the hair loss/thinning was too much for me and my then SO. The ladies here have given good alt. so far. Try those and see how they may help.

LOL! unfortunately, i know that feeling.

i've been on the pill for 5 years and it helped with my acne and helped SO MUCH with my period cramps and my period being heavy. i would literally be doubled over, sick as a dog, while i was on my period without the pill. i'm scared to get off of it but yeah, my sex drive is avg.. while my husbands is through the roof. if it were up to me, we'd do it 3 times a week.. i'd say that's avrg.

NuvaRing was prescribed to me for perio-menopause symptoms. I've never been able to take BC pills due to breast issues. DH has a vasectomy so the NuvaRing was suppose to minimize my hormonal issues. FAIL! Let's just say one month I thought I was having my third child. I had blood clots the size of a chicken egg. If you're taking the BC that has the Prozac in it's formulation----you're not going to be in the mood. It kills the sex drive.

Depo is clinically proven to give horrible mood swings and even cause depression in some women. It also causes most women to gain an average 30 lbs . There has to be better alternatives..

I had to get off of NuvaRing because it gave me really awful cramps, nausea and clotting. I had random black and blue marks on my thigh.

Yep. I tried pills. I was never consistent, so gave up. Tried OrthEvra, but that was giving me horrible clots, and so was NuvaRing. I refuse to use anything else. Condoms worked fine for me when I was intimate.

I wish you the best with your copper IUD. My IUD was removed during my 4th month of pregnancy--they didn't want it to grow into DD's skin.

I think I was meant to be a nun, because me and female BC methods never had a longterm relationship!

But, your DD is 'grown' isn't she? I'm an IUD baby too - the older versions are nothing compared to the newer ones.

Even still - 99.7% success rate means SOMEBODY is still getting pregnant.

Your best bet is condoms and do natural family planning (charting your cycles). It's not too bad once you get the hang of it.

Low sex drive and mood changes are the main complaints most have about birth control...if it's doing the job of keepng you from getting pregnant though what can you say?!

I've been on 3 different pills, the minipill and the patch(got preg on that) and now I'm going to try the nuvaring. The minipill was my favorite but I just can't rememeber to take it at the same time everyday as directed.

OMG this all makes sense now....I was on the depo for 3 years came of it for a year only recently just got back on it...actually I am about to have my second inject in 3 weeks. This all makes sense now. Since I have been back on it I just dont feel like "colouring" anymore. I couldnt put my finger on the cause. This may be it. I guess it now gives me something to think about by the time the next one is due.

I just cant do pills as I am not consistent with them...erplexed But the thought of getting pregnant is scarey right now...even with the depo I still insist on condoms...thats how frightened I am

Yeah the depo has been a god send as far as pregnancy, I haven't gained weight, lost hair, or been emotional. It's just the dryness and the low libido. I'm thinking of charting my cycles. I've not had to worry about anything in all this time, but the past 3 years have been a train wreck on my relationship. But only because of the of desire to color. I'm dues for my injection next month and I won't go get it. Has anyone had success with diaphrams or cervical caps and spermicide?

On the light side just chimed in to say that I looked in because I thought you were saying your sex life was in a lull because of the BC (Big Chop).

BUT WOW, this is a totally different BC. I had to go off a form of BC years ago, just be careful before and after the transition to prevent an unplanned preganancy.

If your cycles are normal, you might have an idea of the time that you are able to get pregnant. I don't chart my body temperature, but I realize that my cervical mucus is most potent (lol) around day 15 (i think ) or so.. it works out to be really around mid cycle... so what I plan on doing is using condoms from say day 11-18 of my cycle just to be safe b/c I know I am fertile around this time of month. My cycle is pretty much like clockwork so I have a pretty good idea of around the time I can get pregnant.

ITA this is what we do, really he is good at it .. Depo MADE ME CRAZY!!!! I was arguing with complete strangers, any little thing sent me off to the moon and I was taking whoever the offender was with me!!! Man I was seriously protected at that time. because someone could have hurt me. I had to get off it, and it took years for me to come back to normal. I MEAN YEARS.


PLEASE get off that Depo with the quickness!!!

Tracking my cycles seems like a good idea. Hopefully it doesn't take long for my cycle to regulate after I don't get my injection next month. hmmmm, for me, I get pimples before my period and that's about it.
