What was the one product that turned your hair journey around?

I thought this would be a fun topic and join us all together. Obviously we're on all different levels here. Some of us are newbies, some of us are experts and some of us are lurkers just staring in the mirror everyday wondering when we'll get our butts in gear.

STILL no matter where you are on your journey, whether your hair is relaxed or natural I'm pretty sure (I hope) you've found 1 product that really did just open doors and make you feel like 'You know what...I can do this' So share! Whether it was a conditioner, oil, moisturizer or shampoo let us know when you had your hair epiphany and what product got you there.

HairVeda Whipped Gelly......

My curls were just blahhh and dry before I tried this product....But after using it my curls were so defined and moisturized...I will never be without it...

less combing..and oils...made retaining hair easier..

also understanding what your hair needs..protein..moisture..and clarifying..

often times ppl say products dont work but if you have build-up on your hair the product cant do what its suppose too..

The Hawiian Silky 14 in 1 has really helped my hair! It has *really* helped me retain moisture in my hair. That in addition to protecitve styling.

It's hard to pick one but my hair took off when I switched to lye relaxers. I feel a combination of that and using Dominican rinses and conditioners really brought thickness and health to my hair.

Coconut oil- hands down! My hair got thicker, looked better & broke less. I put it in while my hair is wet and my tangles melt away.

Me, too. I've stopped my daily co-washing and detangling sessions and my ends are thanking me by not knotting up. And when I do detangle now, it takes about as long as it did when I co-washed daily - which means that there's no need for me to do it as frequently if I can get the same result in less time. :yep:

Also, Taliah Waajid's Bodifier Mist as well as Qhemet Biologics have turned my hair journey around. Especially the TW Bodifier Mist. :yep:

I just had to cosign this comment about Lye relaxers. I switched to Lye with my last Texlax and my hair is so healthy and different as far as how moisturized it feels and how easiliy it straightens. I wish I had switched earlier, but it was thanks to LHCF and threads like these, that I figured out why my texlaxed hair was so dry.

Mane & Tail conditioner turned my hair around from the first application. That changed my hair journey and I have thick healthy hair.

Learning that as a natural, it was possible for me to Texlax instead of relaxing bone straight -- saved my hair (since I like to wear it straight, not curly)

Redken Smooth Down - I love this line of products and it really does smooth down the cuticle and allow easier straightening and blow drying. Just amazing!

Keracare Humecto - Finally a moisturizing conditioner that actually moisturizes my hair!

I use Cocnut Oil and Olive Oil faithfully now and that has also made a world of difference in my shine and hair health. Love those oils!

Thank you ladies! I'm loving these responses and seeing how you girls found a product (or practice) that turned it around for you.

I think this will be great motivation for newbies too, to see the ladies on the site with gorgeous hair used to be right where they are now and managed to figure it out.

Some of the items mentioned are things I've been eyeing recently: switching to Lye relaxers, and since I've still been having issues with breakage I might give the Joico product line a shot.

ORS creamy aloe shampoo!!! :love4:It removes mineral buildup yet it's gentle on my hair.

I have very hard water; like 'boil water in a pot and there is a noticeable white calcium film when you pour out the water' type of hard :nono: It was making my hair hard, literally. I was so fustrated , I gave up on growing my hair and was rockin' a short cut for most of 2008-early 09.

This shampoo completely changed my hair game. Even with the 2x weekly DC's and chelating 2x a month with other 'strong' chelating poos, my hair still had a few splits and a little breakage. And my hair was STILL hard and not elastic at all. Plus, those poos made my hair feel stripped, even if I did a pre-treatment and followed up with a moisturizing poo.

I realised that my water is so hard, I needed a mild chelating poo I could use every wash. I have not found a single split end since growing out my hair last March. My hair has become softer and so much more elastic. I have only found a grand total of three broken hairs during this time as well. All found within the last month which I think are due to this long stretch (trust me I am obessed with searching for splits and broken hairs)

Sorry I know I'm gushing, but my this was such a breakthrough for me.

Herbal essence long term relationship leave in, no matter how dry my hair is, or how terrible a conditioner left my hair dry.. it has always brought moisture, at least temperately until i fix the dryness problem. I don't even try to shop around to try out new leave in/ moisturizer, because there would be no point. Even if its a tad better I'm sure it would not be cheaper. Oh did i mention how it smells! Heavenly!! Lovely, romantic, feminine. Chi Keratin mist is right after is another product that has helped.

Even tho i have found my stable deep conditioners and conditioners, they are still interchangeable, and maybe replaceable.

These questions are kind of hard to Answer because many of us changed almost all of our products when we started
However when I think for a bit I think I have to roux Porosity control as well as other ph balanced products
I had great products that felt great when my hair was wet but my hair dried as hard as a rock for awhile I just kept switching products until I jumped on the porosity bandwagon
With continued use of products like porosity control I was able to have my hair feel soft after it dried too
Other low ph products I use regularly are elasta qp shampoo for relaxed hair and joico j pak reconstruct daily conditioner
I also used to use paul Mitchell the detangler

1. Time and patience. When I first BC'd my hair was still in shock for like a month or 2. Also not rushing through my regimen (detangling, cowashing, twisting) and realizing that natural doesn't mean indestructable.

2. Henna. After my 1st henna my hair just felt better and cooperated more. I did one a week for 3weeks and my hair thanked me for it. Now I do it once a month and my hair is all the better for it.

3. Natural products. My hair does better with natural products and no cones. Cones=build up for me despite clarifying.

Hair has florished after doing these 3 things.

My steamer. My hair so healthy now from my weekly steam treatments and I am able to stretch longer than ever with little to no breakage.

It was more technique that turned my hair around
-Stretching relaxers and not relaxing root to tip
-Frequent DC's (at least weekly)
-cowashing
-moisturizing and sealing
-using more "natural" products aka ditching the Blue Magic and pink lotion
