This wknd was chock full of ppl touching my hair, asking me what kind of hair that was in my head, and literally talking behind my back saying how I wish that was my real hair!

So Friday was my homegirls 30th bday and I rocked a braidout b/c it's too hot for anything else..
Anyway during the night my homegirl's friend sat next to me and literally put her hands through my hair and CARESSED MY SCALP! As she did it she said "ooh girl, I love your hairstyle, is that all you?" So I jumped back said thanks and kindly asked her not to touch my hair b/c I don't like it. Why do ppl feel the need to put there hands in your hair! I've had ppl question my hair, but NEVER not only put their hands in my hair, but caress my scalp. That's a violation ... It's not that serious...My friend said I should of took her arm and flung it out of my head

Then Sat. when I was hanging out I was walking down the block and ran into a former classmate, she was w/ 2 friends... Anywho we were talking and she asked me where did I buy my hair from and what type of hair was it. I told her it was mine and she proceeded to tell me I was bugging! "that's not your hair girl plz, you wish" I didn't feel the need to prove anything to her, but while I was talking to her, her two friends were behind me talking about "that b!tch wish that was her hair, It's a curly weave. I hate when black b!tches try to be white acting like they can grow some hair. She know she bought that from the Ave..."
I turned aorund and said very nicely, you're very wrong... then I turned around and smiled and told them to have a good night and walked away!

Not to offend anyone but I don't understand our community sometimes and their ignorance. I think a lot of the stereotypes about black women and our hair that other ehtnicities may have are perpetuated by our communnity and it's very unfortunate. And why do I have to be a b!tch! b/c you think I'm lying???? you don't even know me!!! Even if you feel I'm not being truthful, why do you have to call me names, roll eyes and be childish!!! why disrespect me? why is it that big of a deal to you?

Sorry, I'm still a little hot ...
How do you respond when ppl violate your hair? Does this happen often to you? Next time I may have to go Ike Turner on someone...

I just came back to say, what is wrong with black people? I mean how is it that we really truly believe that are hair actually doesn't grow. I'm not talking about getting long, I'm talking about the fact that the majority of us are convinced that hair does not grow out of our scalps.

Are we just dumb? I can see how people don't understand about retention. But how does it even make sense that black people are the only humans whose hair doesn't actually grow?

Like I said before, something needs to be done!!! Because this is going way too far!! It's absolute and sheer ignorance, and ridiculousness.

My BFF, for 90% of her life, has had people all up in her head - mostly Black people. She did have some gorgeous MBL hair and no matter how much she cut it, her hair was back to MBL within what seemed like 6 months.

Back in January, an older employee (64 years old) in another department made a statement about my hair. I normally wear it in a protective style (bun) 95 percent of the time, so she hasn’t seen me wear it down yet—even though a few other employees have. While I was working at the scanning machine, she stopped by and said: “It looks like you have it (the bun) attached to the back of your head.” I told her: “This is my natural hair.” She said: “It looks full. Have you ever thought about wearing it down?” I said: “I have.” Then she went away.

About a month later (February), while I dropped some mail in her office, she said: “Your hair looks so straight.” I said: “It’s straighter, because I just came from the salon last Saturday.” Then she said: “Is that really all your hair?” I said: “Yes, and I just had a major trim--about 4 inches.” She stared at me as if I was lying. So she stood up and stepped behind me. I took down my bun, showed her my trim, and she was shocked! I said: “I like it better because my ends are even, but I didn’t realize my stylist trim that much off . . . because I never look in the mirror when he’s working on my hair. I didn’t realize my hair was falling short from the comb until a few days later." She looked puzzled. Then I said: “I extended my comb out, but the hair was falling short, because it was shorter. I normally don’t look in the mirror when I comb my hair.” Her eyes bucked. Then she said: “It’s so long!” I said: “No it’s not, it used to be down here (mid back & waist length), now it’s at the tip of my bra clasp. See it’s not a weave. The right side was about five inches longer than the left side." Then I proceed to pull my hair in opposite directions to show her that there aren’t any tracks.” She said: “My hair has never been longer than neck length, but I cover it with a wig.”

Now listen to this: I was oiling my hair in the rest room two days ago--Monday (parted it into four sections), and she walks in and says hello. Then before she goes into the stall, she comes back in front of the mirror and laughs hysterically as if she's a small child having a ball at Disneyland or Magic Mountain : “I can’t believe your hair is this long!” Then she actually yanks it, and then she does a serious, aggressive weave check with both of her hands as if she's turning pages in a book. Maybe she’s looking for “glued-on hair,” since she can’t find tracks. All the time she is still laughing hysterically. I remain calm by saying: “I told you this is not a weave. From time to time, strangers will ask if I’m wearing a weave, but I tell them the truth. This is my natural hair.”

Then she goes on to say: “My hair has never been beyond my neck! It’s very rare to see African American women with hair that length, unless it’s a weave. That has to be genetics.” I said: “There are women with long hair.” Then I catch myself, because I realize now that I can’t tell her any information about my regimen or the hair care boards, because she’s flaky.

She asked me to have lunch with her, (and it’s on her) a total of three times back in December and January. Each time I went to her office, she was no where to be found. No explanations or apologies either.

Would you believe til this day, she’s still asking me to have lunch with her? I give her some lame excuse every time now. Then she says: “I forgot or I had an errand to run, etc.” I told her: “Order the food any day, then let me know when it’s here. I’m too busy to go out for lunch now.” She said: “I’ll get the menu.” I say to myself: “Yeah right!”

Well, I know what a weave check feels like now, so I sympathize with you ladies. Now you see why I refuse to share my hair care regimen with women like this. If they ask for products, I’ll give them the crappy stuff that I no longer use on my hair. If they want healthy hair, let them figure it out for themselves. Sorry for the long rant, but it's slow at the office . . . and I have to try to look busy.

Wrong. Completely not true. I've been getting questioned re: my hair since I was in middle school. I will never forget sitting in a stylists chair and her asking me if it was my real hair. I didn't think anything of it and said yes. She turned around and then spun back around and said "Wait, she said yes???" Absolutely floored. At that time I was BSL - WL and newly relaxed (before all the damage). Not only that, but as I said before, I got track checked on a chin-length bob. No lie.

This is not about skin tone. It is about the struggle that black women have had with finding hair regimens that allow their hair to grow long and healthy. Look how much work we put into it! It's hard! So many women have just given up and weaved, wigged, phony-ponied, maintained it short, or let their hair just look bad. I really think we are in the minority, and that's why we get those questions. But, even though it is a gross invasion of personal space, the track check, the disbelief, the denial--is both a testament to the struggle and a compliment. Girl, you got to learn "the look." That "backdaf--up" look. Living in BK you already know it, I'm sure!!!

I showed my coworker my scalp by parting my hair in sections with my hand. She still didn't believe it until two months later when she did the extensive weave check while another Asian coworker was watching. Yanked it backwards and then checked it thoroughly as if she was turning pages in a book with both hands!

The "wicked witch" :flyingwit thought the hair was going to fall on the floor. erplexed You should have seen her face after she stopped laughing. She was still in disbelief, but she had to finally accept the fact that it wasn't a weave.

I should have done this with my hair then she would have really had something to say.
