You and your hair are beautiful . haters are alive and well and ready to pounce if you give them a chance . you handled yourself very well and defused the nonsense . just keep stepping and swinging that gorgeous mane ! :)

I just fainted when I saw your hair pictures LOL
Wow! Its so beautiful!

I am at conference right now so I wore my hair down all weekend and my friend/co-worker that hadn't seen my hair straight in a year couldn't believe how long my hair is. Every time I see her my hair is either in a bun or curly (shrunken state). So at first I was flattered at her oohing and aahing. Then she kept touching my hair. I was like hmm that's weird. She's a very nice girl, very shy so that was odd of her. Then she tugged. She snuck her hand inside my hair. Oh no! I am really surprised because she's Puerto Rican (I'm Dominican) and its not like she's never seen women of color at work with long hair. I love her dearly, but I pulled out my scrunchie and put my hair up in a bun LOL I can't have anybody touching/pulling my hair that ain't my husband LOL

Some people are sooo jealous!!!! I guess they were hating so much that they just couldnt say that your hair is pretty...instead they asked what kind of weave do you have?? It's a back-handed compliment, but aggravating nonetheless.

I can't wait til the day. i sure will break some fingers. You know Ching Chong don't have weaves that pretty in his BSS. Anyways your braidout is FIERCE....GET IT.

Exactly, how do you even work up the nerve to do that? :nono:

wow you must be a good person on the inside, because my first thought would have been to cuss those girls out. and its sad that they think black women that can grow hair want to be white. smh. anyway, your hair looks good girl.

I hate to sound like a broken record if this has already been said, but I didn't feel like reading all 13/14 pages.
I have the same problem and my hair isn't even long. Everyone swears I put weave in it to make it thicker. I think to myself "I care more about length so no its not weave".....I've learned to just "live my life". People are sometimes determined to live in the dark................

You looked absolutely gorgeous! forget what they said its just jealousy . I don't know what I would do if someone put there hand in my head my reflexes work a little too good it would have been on and popping lol!!

What is it with ppl with this pullin ? Why would you do that ? I mean I can almost understand the feeling up the hair( which is still a violation ), but pulling someone's hair is straight hateitude. I hate when ppl just be straight trying to embarrass you. Like if I had a weave, what would do if a piece of my hair came off. Oh, my bad mami ... Trying to have me look a fool. It is even worse when you be having it all curly. People trying to knot up your hair and pull it out. Telling you I would have to smack someone's hand off so fast not even funni. Just thinking off someone pulling my haair gets me angry. Thats an obvious hater move made to embarrass. :boxing: lol The classy in me must hold back.

You have lovely hair but I'm still reeling at that fact that they flat out called you out your name over what they thought was a weave. It really is not that serious! I'm in Brooklyn now and pray I dont run into them *****s.

it depends on whether I know/like the person who is inquiring lol

if I dislike them or don't know them, chances are I will NOT let them touch my hair.

If I do like 'em, know them, then I'll let them touch it because I trust they're just plain curious.

I think they called you names because deep down inside they had a feeling it was your hair, and that caused them to hate! Your hair is lovely...don't let them ruin your good time!

I think you handled the situations well. You're right I'm 30 now but I remember having that experience at a very young age. Caucasian children would ask "How did your hair get so long" and play in it, while african americans would talk about me. As a result, from the time I was 10-16 I would wear my hair in ponytails so people couldn't see the length while also discouraging the occasional "scalp massage". My mother is a cosmetologist and always took great care or our hair so I had "silky, flowing locks" in high school, well on one particular day a guy walks by and says "is that your hair? You must be 'injun' (that would be 'indian' for us normal people, lol). The very next day, I secretly went to a salon and bc'd. Not for the sake of going natural--but simply because I hated all the comments, all the disbelief and the violation of my personal space by those who HAD to touch my hair! I'm sorry for the long reply but yes, we as black people are like crabs in a bucket and quite often hinder our own people in different ways daily, things like hair and skin color--unfortunately are just the beginning.

Wow, your hair is beau-ti-ful ... gorgeous. I love the braid out - it's looks so soft and moisturized. You did the right thing ... you don't have to prove anything to anyone. Now I will be stalking your Fotki.

Did I miss this, but are you natural ... can't open Fotki at work.

OOH yes!! cant wait for my hair to get to your length cus my response would be

"yes! u raggedy hoochie this is my hair"

then i would put both hands in my hair while massaging my scalp saying

"take that, take that, take that" (p.diddy style)

i don't know if anyone said it already, but i doubt they would have been pressing you so hard about your hair being a weave if you were lighter. smh.

Come on, Kami, you gotta let haters do their doggon job. You'd think their time would have been better spent clammoring for some of your knowledge so they could grow themselves some hair... but nooooo! They wanna hate... let em... stupid cows.

Girl you are so pretty , and your hair is the business!
To answer your question I dont know why black women do this to each other - do we hate ourselves so much that we stay in "displacement" mode? (psychology for placing feelings toward the wrong person)
I have a confession - I come to this site for hair advice, but I also glow in the love and encouragement that is shared amongst us.

You were very nice about that situation. That woman deserved a one-two combo. If she does that again, you should say something to her. You shouldn't have to put your hair in a bun because she can't keep her hands to herself.

Wow beautiful hair and you look great. You're such a lady - I'm afraid it would have been "on" if it were me. I'm almost sure i would've been doing some name calling of my own...

Yeah, when I complained to my mom she said the same thing... It's really unfortunate that people still conform to these stereotypes :nono:

Your hair is seriously gorgeous! Most likely, those women were too insecure about themselves and unaware of how to take care of their own hair. Also the post about them being envious is very true. Women like that aren't worth the energy it takes to flip them off, so I'm glad that you handled it well. Hopefully practices like being derogatory to one another among black women will change sooner or later. But girl, again, your hair is beautiful and I sure hope I can get on your level!
