Sept-nov No Buy Challenge

A part of me wants to make trial products and travel sizes ok... the problem most of us are having is simply curiosity. We should be able to sample a product without penalties. As long as the travel sizes are reasonably priced it's fine.

I just don't want to commit to 8-12ounces of something I might not even like. Ya feel me?

Yup. It would definitely encourage people to get samples if they are the only "legal" product right now.

Example: Shea Moisture is giving away free samples right now, so I got some. They will arrive in 6-8 weeks, I believe. They are for hubby, but still: No large 8 oz bottles. If he doesn't like them, they'll be gone fast or I can use them to clean my makeup brushes and sponges.

ETA: Getting samples is DEFINITELY helping prevent PJism for me. The samples I got from Komaza and The Original Moxie have saved me AT LEAST $100.

I might grab 2 bottles of my holy grail leave in this weekend. I have a $5 gift card from Target (got a flu shot) and a $2 garnier coupon somewhere in my purse. So if the coupon is still valid, I'll use it. If not, I'll put the gift card towards this superfoods powder I've been wanting to try in my smoothies after I read some more reviews on it.

I was tempted by talk about Kenra moisturizing shampoo, dphue acv cleanser (or sumpin' like that), and Paul Mitchell the detangler. Have NOT purchased.

Just taking it one day at a time.

I've been stuck with this thought for a couple weeks but left it alone. The problem is we ARE buying out of curiosity and whether it works or not, we are stuck with and often left on the prowl. Samples would eliminate that curiosity because it would leave us with not enough product to really produce a stash and it's easier to discard a sample then sometimes 12-33 ounces of product.

I have a problem with DC; I will admit and have no shame in that. My hair eats DC. But it's leave in I want to sample because I have the hardest time with them.

Maybe it could work?

I have Naturelle Grow sample leave in in my cart and am waiting for a break. I don't want to buy full size because if I hate it, I'm stuck with it and I don't give away leave in as fast as I give away DC unless it's really bad.

Co-cleansed twice with Curl Junkie Daily Fix cleansing conditioner. Currently deep conditioning for 30 minutes under my hooded dryer with the last bit of my Enjoy Restorative mask. Man this is gewd but not a repurchase. I like my Joico balm much better.

Still strong with that no purchase life! :drunk: I'm determined not to add to my stash until this challenge is over.

Gave away 2 products to my son

Used up:
8 oz Curl Junkie Curl Rehab (I have 2 of the 32 oz back up's)

Updated stats:
6 products gone

Updated stats:

I have 3 more products on their last legs so once I use those up, my use up list will probably slow down a bit.

I trialed a product that dried my hair and stinks. Will return it to Ulta, though I don't like making returns.

Used up my kit bottle of DevaCurl Condition. Have one backup.

Will be wearing my first Bantu knot-out today. We'll see what it looks like!!!

Have a hair appointment with Angela today. I'm going to ask her to test gels on my head since she's an expert and I need to narrow down a gel or two.

I'll wear my hair with a different gel on each of four quadrants:

1. DevaCurl gel
2. UFD Curly Magic
3. CRN Curl Maker
4. SM Hipo gel

Also, I have a continuous spray flairosol bottle. I like it!

Got 3 slap caps during their BOGO sale, my satin caps are done and I needed some better quality ones. I think the slap caps fit that purpose plus they are also fashionable making them dual purposed.

Bantu knot-out: Fail  Had to wear a ponytail today.

Angela's assessment: Hair is fine (okay) and really growing. Hair is fine (small diameter) and just will knot and tangle. Shed hair just LOOKS like it is more because every strand is longer.

Gel experiment outcome: SM Hipo gel OVER CRN Curl Maker looked best. Only tried those two by themselves and combined. SM hipo gel had no sheen but gave more elongation.

Based on Angela's assessment of the stinky DevaCurl product I mentioned I should return to Ulta, I DEFINITELY need to get my $20 back. Hmph. Doggone misleading reviews!

Girl if you don't use that pass and act a fool like your life don't depend on it!

:yep:

I will miss you, @Napp! Stay! Don't make me grab and lock onto your ankles! I would be hurt to be drug as you tried to walk away.

Aside: My hair stylist says call her! She says she has lots of employment/career advice and would be more than happy to hear from you. One idea: Work as an assistant at a good salon. Gain experience that way, she says.

I feel like some kinda addict.

My name is Yvette, and I purchase hair products weekly if I'm not on a no-buy. At present, I want SheScentIt, Komaza, Amika, and Nexxus . . . to name a few.

Just use a haul pass!

Oh I forgot about the pass. I was planning on bringing a suitcase :look: last time I went I needed help carrying my haul home! I will be more selective this time around though.

Omg I forgot! I'm so sorry. I will contact her tomorrow. I just went to another interview and still can't get my foot in the door:cry2:

No apologies! And, of course, don't call her if you don't feel comfortable! I just know that she's a super sweetheart and loves talking to folks. She is a bighearted helper-type.

Where she works, often newbies get their start by being assistants under the main stylist. Then on days when the main stylist can't come in, the assistants slowly began doing more heads solo. Then voila! Experience accomplished! I don't know how long it takes, and I don't know who hires assistants in your area. She had some other ideas and said, "OH MY GAWSH, HAVE HER TO CAWL ME!"

This has been a huge use up month for me.

Used up
1 Joico Moisture Recovery Balm
1 Curl Junkie Argan & Olive cond
1 Joico Color Endure shampoo

All staples!

I will be using a pass next month to purchase some pomades/butters for my ends as I know I will run out of what I'm currently using soon. I have no backups of it either. Don't know if I'll be joining next session as I'm only buying items as needed which is the purpose. Plus I'm a few products away from having only staples in my stash. I only have 9-10 staple products so I wont have anything new to report other than I'm using those and not buying. LOL But I'll still finish out this session.
