Sept-nov No Buy Challenge

I've been doing pretty well. I only bought Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo since I needed a clarifier. I'm not going to lie, I do have about 5 mock carts going on. But I don't feel a driving need to try anything new (right now) because I have a lot of stuff I need to use that I haven't even tried yet and I have had for well over a year.
I can relate!

I already gave my sister and her two daughters some DCs and moisturizers and working on bringing my stash down further since my storage room is now starting to close in on me.

I was in there today trying to make some sense of where everything is and organizing them according to how I will be using them, thanks to @YvetteWithJoy. Love you girl. Stay strong - you can do this. Listen to your hubby. He is a source of strength for you. You need him - use him! In a good way of course:look:.

:hug2:

Love you, too, lady!

:yep: Good advice. Thanks!

Well, do the dang thang then, Aggie! You dove in! Smart and proactive.

I have yet to put all of my products in one place and snap a photo. It's three years worth of purchasing. I just don't wanna see it. You diving in is inspiring me, though!
And it is so great that you've blessed others in the process of managing your stash! :love3:

Work still in progress sweetie. I will continue down this road right here :yep:. It's helping me a lot too .

I'm already working that Devacurl No-Poo and One Conditioner desire out of my system. Woo-Sahhh!

This past wash day, I used up another product. I have so many products on their last legs with 1 or 2 uses left. This time I used up my MoroccanOil hydrating masque. I have 1 back up left.

Total since the challenge started:
3 used up
0 purchased

:toocool:

Still strong with that no purchase life! :drunk: I'm determined not to add to my stash until this challenge is over.

Gave away 2 products to my son

Used up:
8 oz Curl Junkie Curl Rehab (I have 2 of the 32 oz back up's)

Updated stats:
6 products gone
0 products purchased

Twice a week. But I only use shampoo every 2 weeks, so the bulk of my washing is deep conditioning on dry hair, rinsing it out then styling OR co-cleansing/Quickie DC in shower then styling.
Oh ok. Maybe I should start washing more frequently. I usually wash or co cleanse every 7-10 days. Last wash day was Friday so I think it's time

Maaan, I need to join this so bad... I'm doing pretty good with the m/u no buy but that's so much easier than this one because hair care is my boo thang. I think i'm going to stock up on some Giovanni DLI while it's on sale and then join in.

Confession:

Spent $1.94 on Naturally Silk Elements DC. (Sale plus coupon.)

Resisted purchasing the DC from the new Pure line of theirs which is also on sale. Really wanted it. Smells just like my HG deep conditioner.

I walked in with the Sally bag and began to explain to hubby: This is a highly esteemed DC . . . spent only $1.94 . . . moisture/DCing is a current issue for me . . . yaddah, yaddah, yaddah.

Then I announce: So this should NOT constitute use of a pass at $1.94.

His response: I am your no-buy accountability partner, and that's not how this works. You call your accountability partner before you purchase, like the last time.

Gulp.

In my defense, my phone was dead. :look:

This is my regimen now and since I'm just starting the shampoo every 2 weeks I feel like I'll never get rid of them. Time to use them for something else.

That haul I did before this challenge was amazing. No need to buy anything and the only urge I got was sabino moisture block. I won't.be straightening until December so the urge has passed. I couldn't even think of anything to buy if I wanted to at the moment.

I can't afford to see Angela (stylist), purchase the steamer, and pay all my bills without charging something on credit.

This morning in the shower I had a huge tangle. I've been reading that new hair growth thread (childhood length versus long hair as adult). It's pretty much time for me to protective style.

I'm thinking aloud: I can practice two strand twisting, leave them in for two weeks while wearing a wig, DC and retwist, and then repeat.

I wonder how many twists I need to make so they last for two weeks and fit under the wig.

I wonder what I need to do to the wig.

Even though I'm washing with shampoo less, they still don't stand a chance in my household. LOL I share them with my husband and he washes his hair everyday...sometimes twice if he plays basketball during his lunch break (which he does dang near everyday) I went to grab the shampoo this morning to wash my hair and the bottle was almost empty!

Before I found my staples, these are some ways I used up shampoo's I didn't love:

1) Wash my silk scarves, combs, and hair brushes
2) As hand soap. Just find a pump bottle or repurpose one you already have
3) Clean. Shampoo makes great carper stain removers and bathroom cleaners.

HTH

@KammyGirl Oh I forgot to mention something else. I feel the same way you do on the hauling. The haul I did prior to the no buy really set me up to be straight the entire challenge. At first I was feeling bad about the extra box of products I had, but in hindsight...I am glad to have stuff in stock when I run out of items. Plus I only have products in my stash that are staples that I actually love. Like someone else stated upthread, it's good to see how much product we are actually using (without adding to the stash). That really helps gauge how much is needed to stock up on once the no buy ends. It's why I've been keeping track here of what I actually used up.

@lulu97 I use them for hand soap too!! Lol my mother came over and was like you have 5 bottles of hand soap under the sink why do I have to use shampoo to wash my hands? She didn't have to I just had it on the sink for me to use. Lol I'm going to wash my silk stuff tonight so I'll use my shampoo then too. Thanks for the tip!

Back in the day (years ago) I purchased 3 wigs.

Wig 1: 2b curls, hip-length, color #4 with highlights . . . Use: To wear to sleep in so hubby didn't always have to see me in a head wrap.

Wig 2: Black, straight, short bob, longer in the front. Use: To wear when I needed a break from seeing my large forehead with my twa after the big chop.

Wig 3: Similar to wig 2 but layered: collar-bone length and a little beyond.

I'd almost forgotten about them. Hubby dug them out. (I promise, this man is part elephant: He forgets nothing). I tried them all on today. :yep: I liked them! The hip-length one is a little much for outside wear, probably. It's fun, though.

Protective styling, here I come!

Just resisted a purchase. Sale is 30% off. Product has things highly recommended for my hair issues that I've never tried plus has things in it that I know my hair ADORES.

Resisted.

Breath in, breath out.

I just found out that dh gets emails from Kerastase. He knows about all the new products and events lol. It all started when he bought me the Curl Ideal Cleansing conditioner a few months ago.

Well he knows what I like and I won't be mad if he decides to buy me something from the new Nutritive Magistral line

Feeling good!!!

Hair is . . .

Conditioned: SM hiipo masque, then DevaCurl Decadence
Moisturized: Oyin Hair Dew
Sealed: Jojoba oil

. . . and twisted in 6 chunky twists, ready to reside under a wig for two weeks.

Exhale and smile.

I am trying to follow the advice of my hair twin here so that I can STOP just making random and/or costly purchases. Thanks so much for ALL of your detailed help, @cutiepiebabygirl.

To that I end, I submit a pass: I just got a silk scarf.

100% silk head scarf, pretied and adjustable:

Your scarf doesn't count as a hair product. It's a necessity! You still have 2 more passes :)
