Sept-nov No Buy Challenge

I've been doing well. Haven't made any hair purchases in a couple of weeks, just using my refresher sprays and oiling my scalp periodically with these Marleys in.

I'll definitely make it to BF. I will be repurchasing some Marley hair for more twists and I need to see if I have a reconstructor in my stash to use when these Marleys come out. If not, I'll have to get one.

Update: I have two Garnier Damage Eraser Reconstructing Balms in my stash so no need to purchase anything.

My adjustable, pretied, black scarf came in. I'm in love. I took off my wig after returning home, put on the scarf, and feel beautiful and cool (not warm/hot), even while my hair is thriving in 6 chunky twists.

#wigwinning

I went into the tiny Asian BSS around the corner from my mom and discovered VERY cute wigs. I purchased none and had zero urge to purchase product. I just wanted to see what types of wigs were in there (hadn't ever thought to look).

I'll attach some that caught my eye.

I almost ordered a protein treatment. But then @Prettymetty asked me what I had on hand. I have one set of dedicated protein treatment packs (Nutress packs). I have about 10 other products that contain protein or are for moisture-protein balance or strengthen the hair, etc.

Wow! I really, really, really, really need to understand that I have enough product!!! I don't even remember what I have until I type it out.

I know I should but they keep calling me back in a sneaky sorta way. Companies are constantly sending me discount/sales coupons and it gets so hard to resist sometimes :nono:.

I need to report in here daily for strength. I am still holding on but I came close a couple of times to order stuff from sleekhair.com but I didn't pull the trigger. I just came in here to get re-grounded. Whew!

I'm so happy for you, Aggie! You are practicing self-control and deliberateness.

One trick I have: I have a gmail account that serves as my "anybody can have this email address" kind of account. I hardly check it. it's not for conducting real business. So I don't even see those adds/coupons because I rarely log in to that email account.

@YvetteWithJoy

You are wise beyond your years missy. That is so diabolical yet perfect.

When you face temptation, just look through your stash. I couldn't decide which dc to use on my daughter tonight, so I just looked until something caught my eye. I used Chroma Riche.

I just cowashed with Curl Ideal diluted with aloe vera juice and peppermint oil. Now I'm doing a 30 minute dc with Masquintense thick (no heat). I hope the warmth from my head under this baggy and turban is enough. I only have enough Masquintense for 1 more wash :( I'm not sure if I will repurchase, because I have the conditioner from the same line (Lait Vital). Lait Vital is equally moisturizing, but it's thinner and not as concentrated. If I run out of both of those I'm in trouble.

All I got today were vitamins.

What I got are:

Food Science of Vermont Maxi-HGH
Gotu Kola extract
Mag 07 Oxygenating Colon Cleanser

A dirty colon can possible impede hair growth so I keep my colon clean.

I tried that Mag and it performed only so-so for me. I think I might not have used it properly. (Probably needed even MORE water intake.)

The product that *ahem* cleans me out is Smooth Move: https://www.walgreens.com/store/c/t...7313&sst=9ddee467-972c-4381-a70f-6460a3649abf.

Maaaaaaannnnnnnnnn!

NOTE: Use only if you can stay at home until . . . you . . . are . . . cleansed . . . and you'll have to experiment with the strength of the tea to determine what strength is too much.

Actually Smooth Move does nothing for me plus I hate the taste :barf:. I do however take a caribbean cleansing tea with the Mag 07 and I have great results with them so I try not to fix what's not broken, if you know what I mean. I take other detox teas by Yogi as well to cleanse my liver.

Okay.

This Sunday no matter what, I'm going to collect every single hair product I've ever bought (since going natural) and place them all in an array on the floor. I'll snap a picture. Then I'll make those three categories I mentioned upthread. Then I'll pack a box to deliver to the women's shelter.

I know I'm going to have separation anxiety, even over products I know don't work for me. I know hubby is going to raise his eyebrow if he catches me when the products are in that one array.

I'm feeling ready to really have this under control. I feel close: There are a few products here and there that I want to try for very specific reasons. Example: I have no real, protein treatment besides those Nutress packs from Sally's. So I want the Komaza protein treatment. That's not PJism. I have NEVER seen Whitney (Naptural85) look the way she did when she said that the Amika DC was super moisturizing. She look impressed/astonished/surprised/"I-gotta-give-this-props"-like. I know I won't rest until I try it someday. LOL. Other than that and finding something that does my hair similar to Especially Hair Moisture Foundation, I think most other "questing" isn't going to result in anything to astonishingly amazing. I think my hair characteristics are just challenging, and I could trial forever.

I also think I probably have one of those heads of hair that would benefit from 'cones. I just can't experiment with that right now. Water-soluble ones, yes. But others? I can't. I can't do the sulfate-'cones-dryness cycle thing. :nono:

The good news is that I once again believe I can reach waist length.

That is amazing! I drink one cup and it's ovah! Yes, you're so right: If it ain't broke . . .

It took me a long time to really know what works for my hair and guess what? 8 years later, I'm still on the hunt for new stuff despite my knowledge of what really works for my hair  :nono:.

I know that if I was not on this board or any other hair board, I will have quit purchasing products a long time ago. Truth is, I love being here and that is why I haven't left as yet. If it becomes too much or if it really consumes me too much, I may have to give up these hair boards, no matter how much I love them:sad:.

For what it's worth, Aggie, I think you're fine! I think you said it: You are having fun, and you will leave IF, IF, IF it really consumes you too much.

The reason I have to take the stance I'm taking is because I'm inquisitive by nature and am not balling. It is not smart or wise for me to spend a lot on hair products. For my income, it is not being a good steward. If it fit my budget, then fine. It doesn't. And truth be told: I get scared when I watch some of the big spenders here. I'm afraid of getting to that point. I'm sure they can afford it. I can't.

LIKE YOU, I spend more than I ever would have had I not joined this site. Not blaming the site, but I know it's all the information I get form here that has had me spending frequently. On the other hand, I never would have discovered some really amazing products had I not been here. So it's all good!

I'm at peace to some degree because I know EXACTLY what drives my spending: I didn't know my hair was going to be this dense and this tangly. I thought I was going to have very curly yet hanging-down hair. I didn't think about tangling. LOL. So I keep spending . . . subconsciously for the search for products to CHANGE the tangling or to help it hang better.

I'm starting to accept that I'm one of those naturals who needs to grow her hair long and then wear it stretched or straightened. Wash-and-go's just don't give me the look I REALLY want. I will stop spending once I style better and get a handle on preventing tangling.

Very nicely said girlie. I couldn't have of articulated this any better myself. You even voiced some of my thoughts up in there (bolded) :yep:. I knew I liked you, from the moment you joined the board. You are one cool gal missy!
