Non Black Girls Being Miseducated About Black Hair. Should I Intervene?

The Asian Girl or whoever was asking the questions seems to have issues. I'd ignore her. She's looking to feel better about herself by asking obviously degrading questions.

Some people are just blissfully happy in their ignorance. And it is usually the people that talk the most smack have the least hair
:lachen: So true , so many times

Oh & btw I haven't seen ANYONE, not on the web or IRL, that has hair like Irresitable's. It's so beautiful & healthy looking!
aww thank you sweetie:yep:

16 years at this for me, your way ahead of me in a shorter time because you have this forum:yep:

you feel good about your hair and your doing the right things with it, its only going to get better from here:yep:

@ Almaz on the ignorance is bliss part this cambodian guy i know tells me that all the time haha. Great little quote, thanks. & it really does seem as if the ********** "garden tools" are the main ones trying to give terrible advice. It's like shut up girl! No one wants to know how to do the Rhianna style if my ends are gonna look like yours!

@LadyRaider The asian girl happens to be head/captain of the cheerleading team & she's known around school as sort of a bxtch :lachen:. So I'll just ignore her AA hair questions like I ignore her other rude side comments. Thanks!

@Irresistible Thanks! I think of that all the time. I'm like I have no excuse to have tore up hair at any point in the rest of my life thanks to this place. I feel lucky to have found the forum at such a young age. So that I can finally be happy with my hair. Can't wait for my BC in December!

I'd just let it go, you can't educate the world, esp something they probably don't want to learn. There are probably people out there that still think black people are 3/5 of a human.

There is song by Sade called Immigrant. There is a line, it goes "To even the toughest among us.. that would be too much" Then it goes "Isn't hard enough just to make it through a day". What I take from that song is that, the strongest of us, ( for instance us BW who are very educated about hair) if we attempt to even out all the ignorance with our knowledge, so all can be with out ignorance... it would just be too much. Life is already hard enough. I like the song because it makes you realize that some people will never come out of their ignorance, and it isn't always worth the battle.

No. Don't bother. Let people think what they want. Grow your hair out, keep it looking bangin', and SHOW don't SAY. After all, talk is cheap. Unfortunately for you, the ignorant BW will talk louder and drown you out. Don't stress it.

Exactly !!!! I've had an Asian girl trying to give me advice (deep conditioning to stop my hair from breaking) and when I realized she was obviously not listened to what I was trying to explain, I gave up and let her talk - but again this girl was a know-it-all.

I'd just show this girl, after all what better proof than seeing you with long healthy hair ?

Haha you can't say bald headed on here? Weird lol those stars totally weren't profanity.

@jamaraa I love a lot of those heads of hair! Happily Me has some THICK hair. It's gorgeous! & BlackMasterPiece has amazing hair & it looks like she switches up her styles a lot, her hair has such versatility . It's funny because the asian girl has this really weird orangey brownish brassy color on the last 2 inces of her hair & she has these nasty splits. Her hair is like 1 & a half inches past APL. It's actually sort of ugly, she needs to up her hair care game, & stop thinking she can deep condition those splits & her thin ends away.

@20something thanks for letting me realize that. You can't help everyone. If they start to wonder if their hair care habits are not working, hopefully they'll have the sense to do some research. Maybe they'll even find this forum. It's really not that hard to find lol.

@Adi687 Yes! Looks as if I'll have to show them all. Cause just like I KNOW their knowledge about hair care was cheap & worthless, they may think mine is cheap also. So I'll have some proof for them & any other doubters in a couple of years.

Lmfao! Oh wow, I don't know if I'll take it that far but if the convo comes up again I'll be like, "So, why do I always see asian people with these ridiculous dye jobs & weird scene/emo hair cuts? Oh, & why does it feel so coarse? Those strands are HUGE! Why don't asian people have hair like white people?" Haha just kidding, I won't ask her dumb questions like she asked those black girls. I'll just chalk this little incident up to the ignorance that it is & I'll know what to do in similar situations in the future. Thanks a lot!

Your so lucky to have this site at 15! I don't think this website was up by the time i was 15... and you found this website before me! You are what you say your are.. Miss "smartblackchic" :yep::lachen:

Thanks lol! I feel SO lucky & fortunate that I found it when I did! Now, even on my bad hair days, my hair will still have it's moisture, softness, shine & health. & soon it'll have the length I desire.

Well, why not ask her? They are legit questions about why she feels she can give advice and why she expects it to be followed. Her hair (and 'tude) simply doesn't cut the mustard for such forwardness. Frankly, since it bothered you enough to make this thread, you need to let her feel a bit of sting. I'm not for needless confrontations, but sometimes you DO have to stand up for yourself. Many times people specifically pick someone they KNOW won't hand them their butt on a platter to behave this way w/. Somnetimes, non Black people will prey on Black people being overawed by them. They are not fools. They choose their battles, so why not choose yours? The Black girls, I'd steer clear of...this Asian girl, I'd let her have it.

I don't think educating her is worth your time, but sometimes a good comeback is quite educational in itself. Don't trouble trouble, but when someone seeks to delibrately humiliate you, don't allow that either. It's the middle path that's the best one, Grasshopper! ;)

Okay, okay. I have to admit you're right lol. Asian chick & I talk quite often in class so today, I'll ask her some stuff about her hair. I'll be sure to ask her the why isn't asian people's hair like white people's hair question & I'll be sure to comment on her nasty ends. I'll give you guys a rundown of the conversation when I get home. I'm sure she'll have some bxtchy responses to my questions but that's fine lol.

YES you should tell them! Ignorance is bliss.

It is! & since I can honestly say I believe all hair types should have the basic steps of keeping the hair & scalp clean, conditioned, & protected, I'll tell asian chick a few tips & ask her some questions. "Hey asian girl, why can't asian people's hair hold a curl? Don't you get tired of stick straight hair? Why do your ends look like that? You need to just let those suckers go. How do I know about your ends? Probably due to the fact you're always swinging your hair all over the place & leaning your ponytail on to my laptop screen!"

This post sums everything up perfectly, IMO. She wants to ask you ignorant questions? Then be prepared with a few of your own. Next time, when these dumb inquiries do come up, she'll look at you and KIM. She'll know that you are not the one to be approached with her silliness.

As you get older, you'll realize how little value most people's opinions truly hold, esp when it comes to yourself and your choices.

And this piece of wisdom applies to *everything* in one's life, from who you pick as your life partner, to the career path you choose.

I don't care what non-blacks (or blacks) think of my hair.

What matters most is what I think of my hair :yep:

Don't let it get to you too much. Get your education, that's much more important in the whole scheme of things :)

Wow, I wish I'd had LHCF when I was 16... my hair would be at terminal length already, and I wouldn't have gone through HS looking jacked up. :cry3:

But I'm so glad it's here for the youngins coming up! :yay:

Lemme tell ya about Iris...her hair is HIP LENGTH w/o heat! LOL..she doesn't even know how long it really is yet because she hasn't yet pressed for her semiannual "length check". She ain't the only one either. Sylver2, Toy, Mija, Montegobaby, Onejamifan, CelinaStarr. HappilyMe, Almaz, BlackMasterPiece, HoneyA, FlowerHair, BallerinaBun, etc (plenty more..these were off the top of my head)....all have VERY long hair and primo condition! All are members, all of it's theirs, and all are Black chicks.

Tell that Asian chick to call you when she's got hair like ANY of them. I know she can't touch Iris, I know that sight unseen. ;) Tell her "h8ers...step to da left and keep it movin'! :giggle: I'll bet she had dry fly-a-way hair that can't hold a decent cut (Asians outside of Cali have a hard time getting hairdresser who know what to do w/ their texture).

I'm sorry, but I do have a real bias against chewed up jacked up shorthairs trynna give advice about hair care. What they really want is one more to join their jacked up crew......YOU! :giggle:

OMG, I love you Jamaraa!!! You always come with the TRUTH!! No BS! :yep:

If it's bothering you that much to whereas you need to get it off your chest, then speak your mind, however for the White and Asian girl, don't be suprised if it means nothing to them. Just like Ms. SlantedEyez 2003 stated previously, they are taught this from their parents, and their parents were taught those things from their parents. It just get passed down from generation to generation, just like when some of us Black folks pass down the notion of having "Good Hair", it's the same concept.

As for the other two Black girls, just bring up the topic of hair to them, ask a couple of questions and see how they react. If they act stank and ignorant, just leave it alone because they are going to think what they want to think, and in the end I know you have way more important things to be doing in your spare time.

I def. agree with this....show and don't say is so powerful. I mean, in the beginning I tried telling my mom all about my healthy hair care practices...but it ended up being that I had to show and don't say! Now she's stretching, using a moisturizer and sealing, etc. Sometimes example is much more powerful than words!
