Your post makes no sense. So there is nothing she can do about verbal and physical attacks?? Stay around the family that is ridiculing her?? You would encourage someone to stay in an abusive and/or degrading situation b/c it's family????? OK, great advice.

Your post also makes no sense. Huh?? How does this make her racist!?? Betwen that and the run-on sentences, I can't!

There are trolls in this thread, but I don't think it's the OP people!!!! LOL!

No im not a troll lol but this topic seems to be timely considering the thread posted in off topic section.

This thread is ridiculous!! So much hate, ignorance, and negativity. Who gives two ****s what she is, shes being abused. This alone is a problem.

Little girl I am not going there with you. She knows what I am talking about you don't have to. you young people or older with know morals have no glue about life. you respect your parents no matter what... it is your Lord that will deal with them. They are not perfect and if they have learned incorrectly it is a shame but what you will do the same incorrect behavior??? you do not shun your family but that doesn't mean you have to be around them like that. Clear Now????

Honey, who are you talking too??

 Hi NaturalNative, welcome to LHCF. I grew up in Cumberland County so I know all about the Lumbee indians and the history of that region of NC. I hate to say it but your mom may never change her position on your natural hair. You mentioned that no other family members have your curly texture and your mom kept your hair straight. Some oldheads (elders) may consider your curly hair texture as an impurity in the blood (translation - not 100% Lumbee). Perhaps your mom is afraid of being ostracized within the extended family. There is a perceived stigma associated with AA's in society and some locals will argue that perception is especially strong within the Lumbee community.

I'm sorry you are going thru this. Own your decision to keep your hair natural and be happy with your decision. As far as the rest, just make sure your hair is healthy and others will respect that. Everyone loves a healthy head of hair.

Honey, who are you talking too??

she know............

and another thing you all are good for turning a hair post into off topic thing. This was about hair that was it.

I think so of yall have been in off topic a little too long. we respond to the hair part of the question and what is best about the hair. the drama could have been left to the left.

I don't understand my being called a racist. Other than that brief comment and this one, I will not acknowledge such nonsense. Thank you all so much for the recent comments of support and love! I'm so glad that this thread has turned around. I learn more and more everytime I log on. Thank you all except whoever the hell BellaMarie's troll *** idiot *** self is annoying *** fake scholar *** is.

Sorry for all the cursing yall...I usually don't do so. I just don't understand why people would be intentionally mean and accusatory. Thanks for supportive posts...please continue to post those.

Please get off of this forum, honest to God, I don't know why you are still commenting. Who would even pay money to post fake things on this site? That is such a ridiculous idea to me, almost as ridiculous as you. Please find another post to troll on, or better yet, find one that you can add something constructive to. I believe that people come on this site to get good, sound advice, and yet all you seem to do is try to constantly agitate, accuse, and disrupt the positive flow of the conversation that has arisen lately. Please do me a favor and leave this thread. I implore upon you to do so. If I could, I would pay an additional 6.50 to get you to leave it, but as I cannot, I can only ask and hope that you have basic human decency enough to please stop. Thank you in advance.

^^^"Get off this forum" yeah sure. You're gonna have to pay me more than that. LOL. Hopefully you find the help you need here.

I like you, NaturalNative. Going HAM, lol. Check my join date. 10 years on this site, I've seen a lot. Times have changed, I must say.

Good luck on your natural hair journey.

There's an ignore function for the forum, that allows you to stop seeing messages from people who are annoying you.

I'm sorry that you're being E-bullied. This is a incredibly large community of mostly african american women. Our hair is beautiful, but very complicated. This is why this forum has been such a good help and also support system for people that have families or friends that ostracize them for their hair.

I have a grandmother who doesn't like my natural hair. Normally, I simply blow it out and give it a light press in her presence, which isn't often. As soon as I wash it, the curls come right back. If you don't see you're mother often, that could be a compromise. However, if you are constantly around her this would be a bad idea. Long term pressing can cause heat damage, where certain strands become permanently straight because of over exposure to high heat. The other thing I would suggestion is wearing a bun wear the hair is stretched and the curls are less apparent.

I know that to most people, this is selling out. I can tell you now, your family is not going to change their minds. If your mother is going to physical blows over something like hair, maybe even time won't change her mind. If this is something that you want to do, then you have to be prepared. People may shunning you for your choice. You may lose relationships. For many of us, people got over it or we simply chose to ignore it. But you live in a different world than us. Which is why, I'm suggesting an "appeasement" set of actions.

I hope you'll branch out more. Many natural curlies of all backgrounds enjoy associating with each other. Just talking to someone with the same or similar hair as you may help you cope with all your frustrations. Hopefully, speaking to people on this board in the future may help too. Although, I think some members may have scared you off for good. Sigh...

One this is for sure, you will need to stand up for yourself in the future. Your mother has no right to hit you for choices. Make that clear to her. Be prepared to walk away from her, because no one deserves to be abused physically or mentally by anyone else.

Don't I know it. Child, you paid your $6.50. Come, stay a while, and keep posting. When it gets to be too much, simply log off for a while. Don't let some of this chicks bait you. Some of them have nothing better to do. #fairwarning

You are doing way toooooooo much.

So are you with devoting time and attention to call me out instead of posting something constructive and productive to this forum.

R4L You were right the first time. Definitely a troll. :yep:

And not even an innovative one... Tell tale sign of a LHCF "reincarnate": Here for less than 24 hours and begins attacking/questioning the contributions to the forum, of posters they (shouldn't) know **** about.

Textbook...

You are ridiculous honestly. I obviously had no clue what I signed up for, though. I was under the impression that this site was about helping, not hurting. And ma'am have you ever read anything? I mean, anything? Even a news paper article? You seem very lacking in the most rudimentary of comprehension skills. Please go away. I beseech of you. Unless of course you have also encountered similar struggles with going natural and have any useful feedback to offer. If not, please give me the respect of leaving. I am sure that you have contributions to make, but this forum does not seem to be the place for you or your negativity and ill founded suspicions.

And why in the hell would anyone ever be a long hair care forum reincarnate? WTF who would pay for this **** twice. I regret ever paying for it once. And do you people get ****ing paid to patrol this site like some kind of bootleg ****ing mall cops? WTF. For all of you who have responded to me kindly and thoughtfully, thank you again. Do you know of sites where I can post my problem to for free? I really dislike this site. It's making my life more stressful than it already is, honestly.

I've also googled this issue extensively, but felt that my particular case was a bit different than many others I read online given the one violent episode from my mother and also the issue of the anomaly of being a Native w/ kinky hair. So that's the reason I came to this site...to get informtion and feedback that would be more tailored to my specific issue.

-__- This is just too sad. I would request a refund if I were you, because from what I've seen people on here go from thread to thread acting like they run the internet. smh. Sorry that you had to deal with mess, no matter who you are, you asked legitimate questions. Some of ya'll act like she came out of your computer screen and snatched your hair out. Its just not that serious folks.

I suggest that you take your mom out somewhere, get her away from the people who are influencing her decisions about your hair and just talk to her. Don't ask her for permission, just let her know exactly what you're trying to achieve. Your hair is versatile. You can straighten it when you want, or wear it curly. You may become a product junkie if you stick around. Its all about experimenting and finding what products give you the look you're going for.

you ladies should be ashamed of yourself. this lady asked you for help and you questioned the legitimacy of her culture?!? who tf do you think you are. You read a couple of hateful biased internet posts on Lumbee people and you think you a bloody expert on native heritage? This place is so bloody b*tchy. Its sickening that people come here for help on having pretty hair and are subjected to scrutiny and quite frankly ABUSE. stay in your lane ladies.

anyway NaturalNative

this forum as well as being a meetup place for ignorant nasty people with too much time on their hands, is also a treasure trove of knowledge. fix yourself up with a nice balanced regimen, look through the stickies for products and techniques. they're the best place to start. There's also styling help and stuff.

with regards to your mum. that's a battle you probably cannot win, and will cost you too much energy too. sometimes anti blackness is too deep. do you live with your mum or are you just visiting? if you live with your mum, you need to find a happy medium that allows you to keep your curly hair healthy and her off your back. if your just visiting, just blow dry or straighten when your down her side.

maybe after f*kery blows over you could post your hair regimen?
