LADIES LET's Talk...

sckri23 Don't cry...I'm just trying to keep this thread on track so we can have a list of Black own Beauty Supply Stores plus positive stories as stated. No one is trying to run you off LHCF. IT's nothing to get upset about. I just hope that we could come together to do this that's all...no drama.

I only know of 1 black/Jamaican owned BSS where I live (Northern California) & I stopped going there b/c of the fact that the women are extremely rude, have terrible customer service, & there's always dust caked on the outside of the products. I guess I'll suck it up n go back n try it out next time I need a product, I just hate the mean stares I get when I walk in. They make the customers feel like we're an inconvenience by being there.

I just dont want everybody lookin at me like im a drama starter I support everybody how can someone agrue with me about that? Im 2 upset. Ill b bak wen I stop cryn

Nobody sees you as a drama starter. In fact the only thing I see in this thread is debating a topic within a topic. No one is trying to argue with you either there is a difference between arguing and disagreeing. If you have a stance state it, come up with supporting facts, then understand that someone else might have an opposing stance, reflect on it debate some more......so forth and so on. I have been on some ratchet boards and I've seen true attack this is civil as all get out in comparison.

Thank You ladies for listing the black own suppliers of hair for weaves. That's good to know as well. SO keep them coming...

FoxxyLocs Later maybe we should make a list of people of who "don't deal with N's" so that way the "N's" won't give them their money:sad:

growbaby hey don't take that from anyone. once the list is made maybe we should rate them as well.

this is only the beginning...

I can't think of one in the metro Detroit area period. I knew of one, but that was when I was a teenager and it was grossly understocked and dusty. All the others are owned by Asians and at least one even does weave installs and lace wig apps with no black staff.

Da hayle?

Reading comprehension is fundamental. What part of 'the Korean BSS network, deliberately blocks/prevents Black BSS owners from getting the products/inventory needed' do people have a problem understanding? This is why we should try to support the Black-owned BSS.

Seriously? :ohwell:

Obtuse indeed.

cocomama - it was the guy from AWNI. There is an interview he did about trying to break into hair distribution. I can't link it from my phone. He also says he's trying to build a distribution center in Philly that will employ people from the community. I have no idea about the quality of the hair, but I'd like to buy from them.

Maybe once you have the businesses listed the mods can make this thread a sticky. Or you can put them in a new thread and make that a sticky.

Ogoma Here is a list of possibilities...I'm not familiar with buying hair. So maybe others will chime in soon. This should be a good place to start.

owned and weave companies:

Jace Beauty- GREAT quality hair, long wait time, but completely worth it!
Arjuni- great quality
Indique

FoxxyLocs Great idea Lady! Sounds like a plan...I also will list it on my blog as well as ask others to do this as well. PLease post the link when you get a chance. I called Devin Robinson's office and ask them to call me back. So hopefully that will add a lot to this list. I'm still waiting for BOBSA to respond to my request as well.

Good job ladies... Let's keep the stores coming

I live in Louisville, Ky and we have 2 small scale bss. I actually work in one and have visited the other on a regular basis. The one I work in is very small scale, we mainly sale to license stylist but will sale sizes 16oz or below to the general public, we also only have access to certain product lines. We sale the whole Keracare/Affirm/Syntonics line, Mizani and some Nairobi products, because of this we have a customer base but not as large as the asian bss due to limited products. The other black owned bss specializes in products that you would normally purchase on line. What makes them unique though is that they have sample bars where you can acutually wet a piece of your hair and try a product before buying, they even return gently used product that didn't work for you.

I have switched most of my hair products over to the Keracare Natural Texture line simply because I am tired of giving the Asian bss my money and them treating the community that keeps them in business like crap. So since I have access to KC in a store owned by a black woman that's what I'm using. When I took on this job and saw our prices compared to theirs I was blown away. For example we sale an 8oz of KC Leave In for 5.99, their price 14.99. We sale a box of 9 pack relaxer application for 33.95, they take the same box of 9, make them individuals and sale the individuals for almost 20.00 a piece. Just robbery. I hope all of this makes a huge shift one day so that we can make money off the industry we put so much of our dollars into.

I don't know any black owned bss in my area that has access to the weaves and wigs.

There's a black bss in Lakewood, ca but idk the name of it. The owner has really bad service tho and whenever I go he treats me like I'm suspicious. Like I'm going to steal something and he doesn't open when he says he will open (12pm). It's unfortunate... But I will try to get the cross streets if anyone wants to give him a try

bellebebe LOL!!!!! Here in New Orleans there was one name "Beyonce". DH told me that they took the sign down, so maybe the real Beyonce wasn't having it...:lachen:

I remember before Katrina hit my friend was writing an article on how the Asians were boxing out the black own beauty supply stores in the city. They wouldn't sell the hair products directly to them. They made them buy the hair products from their competitors. Basically they couldn't compete...

After learning this my heart would ache at how we had allowed this to happen. I honestly didn't see how we could ever take back our own market. So the dollars could circulate in our own communities again. So when I read the above comments I couldn't believe my eyes...:dance7::dance7:

There's one named Ebony in Kenner as well... on Williams...lol

I have been following this thread the entire day and I thought I couldn't come up with a single black owend BSS. I was wrong. In Northern Virginia in Prince William County there is a black owned BSS. The woman is African and she was so nice and helpful. I was wearing weaves at the time and would go there for my hair. She was always very helpful and knew a lot about hair. She - as well as her daughter - also did hair braiding. In fact she was the one that told me if I was going to be doing full sew ins relaxers weren't a necessity. I forget the name of this store. I think it was called Maria's but please do not quote me because I can't remember 100%. And this was a predominately white neighborhood. All of the stay home moms used to gather there after their Mommy and Me class. lol

FemmeCreole LOL...Ebony, huh right.
I heard that their might be one in the East. I'm going to ride out there tomorrow and check it out.

KammyGirl Thanks! Could you find out the address? Or phone number?

There was one I shopped at a few years ago in Romulus. I think it may be called Romulus Beauty Supply. I remember it was on Wayne Rd. I recall searching the BOBSA site for it.

I just saw a picture on Google and I'm pretty sure that's it. I remember it was in a little strip mall. The proprietor was nice.
