Hey Ladies

After seeing how many of us included drinking more water as one of their November goals, I've decided to spearhead the November HydroChallenge. This way, instead of a nebulous, "drink more water" goal, we will have more well-defined, concrete goals. I know that I will be more motivated and less likely to slack off if I am committed to a structured challenge
smile.gif
Everyone set your own goals. We are all at different stages of dehydration (
laugh.gif
) so only you know what would be a good short-term goal for you. And it's perfectly okay to start out with one goal for the 1st week or the 1st half of the month, and then increase to a more ambitious goal later. The idea is to integrate a larger water intake into your normal activity so it isn't like a one-time thing. We are trying to create a new lifetime habit! I just bought a new Eddie Bauer Nalgene-type bottle (clear, hard plastic in bright colors--pretty popular right now) from Target today--It was $6.99. You can get yourself a new water bottle for the occasion (sometimes that type of thing motivates me
laugh.gif
) or you can use bottled water and keep track of how many you drink.

For this initial post, set a water-drinking goal that will last at least a week (you can change later if you want to start out slow now). We will report back EVERY DAY. I know that seems intense, but I feel like the only way I'm going to be able to do this is if I take it one day at a time. If you aren't on the board every single day, write down at the end of each day how much you drank so you can remember when you come back and report. Feel free to share any hydration-related tidbits or suggestions with everyone. We can do this!

My goal:
My new water bottle holds 1000mL. For this coming week, my goal is to drink one every day. That's a little more than 32oz, only half of the recommended amount...I really need to ease into this cuz I really don't drink a lot during the day and I don't want to be running to the bathroom all day long. I will see how I fare this week, and increase next week if I'm ready.

What's your goal?

I'm definitely in....lets see a half gallon is like 64 oz rite? Well I'm gonna try 72 oz each (Thats three Poland Spring sport pack bottles a day) day for one week and increase from there...soon i would like it to be a gallon a day. But thats too far fetched rite now!!!!! wish me luck!!!

Count me in starting out with 48 oz a day it is hard for me
to drink water this will definitely be a challenge.

Wow...this is truly a challenge that I need....I never drink enough water. This past Feb/March, I started to consciously drinking more water, but soon afterwards I fell off the wagon.

So I'm singing myself up for this one.....and since I'm being realistic with myself....I will try 32oz a day for this week. ( no point in setting my goals too high from the start...hopefully i'll gradually increase)

I'm in, my goal is 64 ounces everyday. I'll only drink in the evening, I hate running to the bathroom all the time during the day as well. I definitely need this challenge, I only had 24oz today (3 8oz bottles) which is far below the recommended daily intake of 8-12 8 oz servings.

hey ladies dont forget that fresh fruit and vegetables count as a water source too...my grandma just reminded me.Drink up!!!!!

Important detail:

So the official start date will have to be the 2nd so we can have a full day. Our first reporting day will be the 3rd. We will always be reporting on the day BEFORE. It just makes more sense because you may only be on the forum in the middle of the day and you wouldn't know how much you are going to drink before going to bed.

I'm really excited about this. I've already gone through half of my water bottle since I posted this. I see success on the horizon...

40 oz per day for me (God help me because drinking water has become
barf.gif
for me) and I'll try to punch in my update regularly

I think this is a great challenge! I've been doing this for years and I know it really works!
smile.gif

Count me in! I drink 120 oz of water daily (5 of the 24oz bottled waters), so I will increase it to six this week so that I can reach the one gallon point! Well, I think that's a gallon...how many oz are in a gallon???

I'm in, I live in a very dry climate (Colorado) so drinking the recommended amount of 64oz still leaves you slightly dehydrated so I going to shot for 70 oz this week.
Also I have a tip: Try drinking at least 8oz of water as soon as you wake up. The reason being you have been sleeping for hours with no water, your body needs to rid itself of toxins built up during the night and rehydrate. I actually drink 16 oz first thing but I do run to the bathroom quite a bit during the day.

Ok, Ok, I'm in. This is something I know I'm supposed to do but I don't like water. I can guzzle a bottle of vitaminwater, no problem. But ask me to drink plain water, it takes me a couple of hours to do it. So I will start with drinking 40 oz a day this week. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Yay!! It has begun!

nebula, that was a really interesting article. I can't wait to see the health improvements as I drink more water.

I remember hearing once that you can tell if you're really dehydrated by the elasticity in your skin. If you outstretch a finger, and pinch the skin on your knuckle, it should immediately snap back into place, like the rest of your skin. If it goes back more slowly, then you need more water. Well I just tried it and I need more water

This is a GOOD read

SIX GLASSES OF WATER (1 litre) - ASTONISHING PERFORMANCE

Professor S. Plesembel, from the Kantha Health and Research Centre, India, advocated the water therapy for the following diseases:

Anemia ,Arthritis ,Asthma,
Blood Pressure, Hypertension,
Breast cancer ,Bronchitis,
Constipation,Cough,
Diabetes, Dysentery,
Eye diseases, Gastro-enteritis,
General Paralysis, Giddiness,
Headache, Hostorthobics,
Hyper acidity, Irregular Menstruation,
Kidney stones, Laryngitis,
Leukaemia, Meningitis,
Obesity,
Ophthalmic Hemorrhage & Opthalmia (reddish eye)
Pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB),
Rectal Piodapse, Rheumatism,
Sinusitis, Tachycardia,
Urogenital diseases, and
Uterine cancer

The Water Therapy:

Early morning after getting up from bed (without even brushing your teeth), drink 1.5 liters of water i.e., 5 - 6 glasses. Better to pre-measure 1.5 liters of water. Let us all know that our ancestors termed this therapy as "Usha Paana Chikitsa". You may wash your face thereafter

Here it is very essential to note that nothing else - neither drinks nor solid food of any sort - should be taken within 1 hour before and after drinking this 1.5 liters of water

It is also to be strictly observed that no alcoholic drinks should be taken the previous night

If required, boiled and filtered water may be used for this purpose

Is it possible to drink 1.5 liters of water at one time? To begin with, one may find it difficult to drink 1.5 liters of water at one time, but one will get used to it gradually. Initially, while practicing you may drink four glasses first and the balance two glasses after a gap of two minutes. Initially you may find the necessity to urinate 2 to 3 times within an hour, but it will become normal after sometime.

By research and experience, the following diseases are observed to be cured with this therapy within the indicated days as below:

Constipation (1 day)
Acidity (2 days)
Diabetes (7 days)
Blood Pressure & Hypertension (4 weeks)
Cancer (4 weeks)
Pulmonary TB (3 months)

It is advised that persons suffering from Arthritis or Rheumatism should practice this therapy thrice a day, i.e. morning, midday and night, 1½ hours before meals - for one week; and twice a day subsequently till the disease is cured.

Hey guys, drinking too much water can actually put a strain on your kidneys. so please be careful not to drink too too much, anymore than ten glasses a day and you risk damage to your kidneys, and thats not the tall tumbler type glasses its the small cups that you get in drinking machines. Its better to eat food/fruit that has a high water content.
Also drinking large amounts of water will just flush out essential vitamins that most of you seem to be taking. so its worth being aware that you may just be spending money on vitamins that you are just flushing out.
