When I made the decision to care for my hair, I started searching the web on topics pertaining to black hair care. That is how I stumbled onto this board!

I was wondering how everybody else found this board...

I found this site through Google.

I was looking up information on healthy hair...and growth, Then I stumbled across this place (thank goodness)!

I did a search on Cathy Howse and this was one of the search results. I had read her book and was interested in finding out if she was mentioned on the web. Well I was brought into this thread regarding Cathy Howse and boy was it entertaining to say the least.

I remember being shocked at seeing celebrity avatars, I was like what the heck? I had never seen anything like that before. Anyway, I checked out other threads on the site and well here I am.

I did a search on Black Hair care, and one site had other links and through one of those, I stumbled onto one that had Sherrylove's picture and website on it, and SHE linked here!!

I found it through Tracy, who posted about it in another hair club. I'm glad I followed her over here.

did a google search on black hair care trying to find a message board for black women and hair. i hit the jackpot

Ditto.

I also did a google search. Mine was on "protective styles" -- because I was getting tired of just wearing buns -- and this site came up.

I did a search one day on black hair care and found another forum and everyone was talking about LHCF and how good it is, but I didn't know the website so I did a search on LHCF and it listed this website and here I am. I haven't really been to that website since. I was only on it for like two weeks.

It was pretty much the same with me, except I discovered the board in an earlier 'incarnation' - the Multicultural Forum at Longhairlovers. I was hooked from then.

I did a search on black hair care and came across the Relaxed Hair board.
Somehow over there I got to find out about LHCF

I heard about this site through the Wendy Williams website when someone was telling everyone on the board to troll this website. I was curious about so I checked it out and I've been loving it here every since.

(I love this story

I read in Essence that it was good to treat your new growth w/castor oil for 2 weeks before a relaxer, but it always made my scalp itchy. I did a Google search to see if other women were doing this. One of the search suggestions led me to Peachtree's Member of the Month page. I read and was INSTANTLY hooked!

I truly consider finding this site one of the best things that happened to me this year. If I hadn't done that random search, I would have no clue that such a resource existed--and from now seeing other "comparable" (not really

) sites and reading other members' comments, I'm glad I found this one first! I love the camaraderie and wealth of information here. And I find such bliss in knowing that there are others in the world who are committed to having healthy hair; do some degree of self-maintanence; and love buying products for their hair! (although, I've come to learn through LHCF there are some MUCH more PJ-like than myself!)

DITTO!

(I guess we all have Cathy Howse to thank!)

I was daydreaming, thinking about how badly I wanted to grow my hair longer. Then I started surfing for hair care sites that dealt with black hair, but I mainly wanted to see pics. When this site came up, I kept in in my favorites for a long time before I really began to explore it. I started lurking around April 2003, joined in July 2003, lost my password and lurked until i joined again in October. Been addicted eva since
smile.gif

I was lurking on nappturality.com and they were making fun of people who thought they could have relaxed and healthy hair at the same time. Someone posted a link and I clicked on it and I have been here ever since.

I had a photo shoot that was booked six months in advance. That is when I noticed that my hair, that has been long all my life, had gradually shortened about 6 or 7 inches over the past couple of years, and I knew that for this particular photo shoot, they wanted my hair as long as it used to be. So I searched long hair, health hair, and a few other things, including East Indian sites (My dad is Indian) just to see if I could make my hair that already grew fast... GROW FASTER AND STAY HEALTHY AT ALL TIMES.

This is the only board I chose to join because it seemed to have intelligent members from all races and backgrounds, and I sensed genuine care, no jealousy, and people learning from each other's trials and errors.

I was a lurker when the original board was created. I followed everyone over from the ethnic board on Longhairlovers.com.

Some of you long-time members are going to find this funny. I was on a quest to care for my daughter's natural hair and came across a wealth of good information and bought a few books, saw Cathy Howse' site, growafrolong.com and then one day I was looking for relaxers because I was just so tired of what I was using and I was trying to find a "natural relaxer". Well, I came across the relaxed hair care forum. I don't really know which board it was but you long time members will - it was the day this site went down. A few of you kinda hijacked the other board talking about how you couldn't post on here and that you missed it. Just in general not being very nice to that other board.

That's how I got here. I lurked for a time and then I signed up. I liked what I was seeing. But it's certainly a good thing you can't see the Off-Topics board if you're not a member - some of those topics can get pretty racy.
