Why did you join LHCF?

I originally joined Nappturality.com. My hair was breaking off and I was sick of my stylist telling me my hair was growing when I wasn't retaining any length. So, I BC'd and hated it immediately. (a) I hate my hair short. (b) I prefer to wear my hair straight. While on Nappturality I had seen this site referenced several times. I checked it out and haven't looked back since. In three years I grew my hair from a TWA to shoulder length (this included two stress-based set backs). Now I am hoping for APL or BSL by Christmas.

I first started looking for tips to grow hair long because I could not get past APL. I joined in 2004 but was not a paying subscriber.

I forgot about the forum for a couple of years and then came back and subscribed in 2007 because I began losing my hair and had a alot of breakage. I could no longer get to even APL without having super thin damaged hair.

I found it by typing in "long hair care tips" in google search. (I dont kow how I remember that lol)

Lol.. probably because it was a significant moment in your life

I wanted to grow my hair long. I didn't ask them to have us pay money to join it just happened to be one of the requirements if I wanted to be able to interact.

i want to have longer and stronger, healthier hair. after browsing some forums LHCF seemed to have a lot of good info so i joined.

What made you go looking for it?
I was pretty much fed up with my former stylist trimming each time I saw her. I wanted to do some serious maintenance at home; while only going to the salon infrequently! I wanted a forum where I can learn and discuss healthy hair tips.

How did you find it?
Google baby!

i joined bhm first. i kept seeing people refer to lhcf and i was curious so i decided to check it out.

i never planned on renewing my subscription, but i could never remember to cancel before the auto-renewal came back around, so here i am for at least another year...

plus, i ended up getting banned from bhm, soooo ... yeah.

I joined because I wanted to better myself. I guess I was randomly googling about black hair care and stumbled upon this website. This was my first time seeing long heads of healthy black hair of all textures. I was excited because I only thought "mixed" black women could get hair that was beyond shoulder length. I paid my $6.50 because I wanted to communicate with all you fabulous women. It seemed like such a close knit online community, that I wanted to be apart of it. Who knew $6.50 could open the door to great friendship, great advice for all aspects of life, and great entertainment. I truly love you all. It's really important that black women are positive and support each other, and LHCF does that! Also I want my hair to be long, strong, and beautiful hahaha.

ugh how could i forget about those awful trims. each time i got a relaxer (every 8 weeks) i had about an inch of my hair cut. my stylist claiming the hair would grow back faster as if there was magic in my ends.

I had come to LHCF a few years ago when someone on another board provided the link. I visited and looked around decided it wasn't for me and didn't come back. I had healthy hair and I have never had problems growing my hair. Also, I was already practicing many healthy hair care habits. And some of the things I saw the first time I visited seemed extra to me.

Last year I decided to stop relaxing my hair. I needed to learn how to transition and not have my healthy hair become damaged and break off. I remembered this board and googled it and found many other hair boards. I lurked for about a month getting tips on transitioning.

I decided to pay the $6.50 because I wanted to see the pics of people's hair. I wanted to see what everyone was ooohing and aaahing over. And I wanted to respond to some of the threads.

Bingo, bango at the bolded

I found this site by googling "black hairstyles"....I was looking for a cute short cut :lachen: Oh well.

What made you go looking for it? About this time two years ago, I was very desperate:sad:, and I was so unhappy with my hair.
How did you find it? I typed in "Growing long Black Hair" and I ran into a young ladies blog. She had some information, and a link to lhcf. I clicked on it, and never left.

I didn't mind paying for it, because it is nice to discuss hair with people who won't look at me like I'm obsessed!
I truely am Blessed to have found all of you hair loving people. I still have a lot of growing to do, but as far as the health of my hair, I think I am a lhcf success story. :yep:

awwwww ~tear~

I discovered this forum a few years ago and just joined this year which i should have done sooner. While i have spent a lot of money on some recommended products, i have saved on products i would have tried if i didn't come to this forum first. This forum has in my opinion the best information on black haircare anywhere.

I will always be here for information and product recommendations.

LHCF is a staple!

On july 15 2006 (I remember the day like it was yesterday) I chopped my hair off to ear length in the front and chin length in the back or a twa because of a bad glue in weave. I was looking for ways to grow my hair fast and came across nappturality. From there I heard of lhcf. Once I checked it out I was hooked. I lurked for a good yr or two before I paid. I am so glad I did because this site has brought my hair to a place I never thought it could be. I'm forever grateful for this site and the members of it.

What made you go looking for it? I had thick, resilient hair all my life. It survived no matter what I did to it (jerri curls, relaxer, colour, extensions, weaves, completely shaved etc ...lol you had to be there) no matter what I did my hair was good to me but I had no idea how to care for it. I spent a ton of money at hairsalons etc. Then 5 yrs ago my darling daughter came along blessed with a full, thick head of hair along with being very tenderheaded. Having spent years at salons, I knew nothing about how to care for her hair (can't braid or canerow to save my life), tried taking her to hairdressers but they were frustrated with her lack of cooperation and all that crying...lol so what's a poor mom to do but turn to google for help. Found LHCF which saved my sanity. Lurked around for year or so and implemented many of the techinques for natural hair on her hair and was amazed at the result. Her hair is now midback length stretched and very healthy. I can now do a decent twist and twist out and am getting more creative in styling her hair. She gets compliments all the time and I'm such a proud mama. Believe it or not during this time I wasn't taking care of my own hair but about 4 months ago the light bulb went on and I thought wait a minute let me focus on myself for a change. I was experiencing severe breakage after a botched re-do by my stylist so I stopped relaxing cold turkey started taking care of my own on my own... weekly dc steam treatments, kept my hair moist and sealed etc and what do you know my hair is responding so well. More than anything though I feel so blessed to finally have the knowledge that all black women should have about taking care of our hair to pass on to my daughter.

How did you find it? I googled natural hair care+kids or something like that.

Why did I join?
I lurked initially but felt guilty that I was benefiting so much from what I was learning on lhcf and was not contributing in someway and really $6 is a small price to pay for the knowledge I have gained.

Your AVI is soo cute..

i joined lhfc because i kept hearing about it on other forums. i then paid for a subscription because all the people with gorgeous hair had their fotki in the profile, and i couldn't see all that unless i paid. also i was curious about the other forums everybody talked about. ♥

I missed my long hair. After my mom ruined my hair with relaxers, I went natural. But I didn't know how to take care of my hair. I was striaghtening it everyday, and coloring it every two weeks and I could never figure out why it never grew past apl lol.

I chose LHCF because it is for people with my hair type, LHC gave good info, but I needed to know how to care for my type of hair. My hair hasn't been this healthy since I was a child. I hardly have any breakage, and my Hair is so shiney. This hair site is the best thing that could happen to me lol.

As I was having a discussion in one of my threads with a fellow poster, i became curious as to why some of you ladies came to LHCF. I know everybody has different reasons with the same general purpose in mind but what motivated you to pay for the gym membership?

What made you go looking for it?
How did you find it?

My answers:

What made you go looking for it? I wanted to learn how to take care of my natural hair which was already growing, i just didn't know what the hell to do with it :ohwell:
How did you find it?
I kept hearing about it on other boards so i googled it, lurked for about 5 months because i didn't know how i felt about paying for a memebership to a hair board.:ohwell: But i am so glad i did:look:

Well I did because I want to know all the ways of growing my hair faster and healthier. I have been a hair freak since elementry schoola and now I am 23, lol, with damage done to my hair from experimenting. Now I want to stop experimenting and start taking care. For the last year I have been on this because the last time I died my hair it wasnt very pretty.

I found this on a search engine.

What made you go looking for it? I was super depressed because my hair had suffered MAJOR damage from poor care on both my and my stylist's part. It was completely broken off in the back. I went from SL hair to hair shorter than CL....it all broke off in the back.
How did you find it? I was so upset that I decided I was no longer going to get sew in hair or relaxers or anything like that; I was going to QUIT my stylist cold turkey. That's exactly what I did. So in all of my cluelessness (never in 21 years taken care of my own hair), I googled hair care stuff and this placed popped up. For the first 2 or 3 weeks I kind of read specific threads off of LHCF that I found when googling questions. Then 1 day I wondered how I could join since I am reading so many threads anyway, and I wanted to post and stuff. The End.

I joined because I had just cut off all my damaged relaxed hair and was looking for a better way to do my hair. I found fokti first which lead me to lhcf and I have been growing my hair healthy since I found this site.

same reason as u actually

had recently gone natural-didnt know what the heck to do with my hair
via other boards I kept hearing about LCHF so I lurked then joined

...because everytime i would do a "google" search [for hair related questions], an article from LHCF would would be the first or second result. So i figured, why not go straight to the source.:yep:

you are so right. Everytime i googled LHCF would come but it never clicked that i needed to be on this site

i picked up good tips while lurking so i joined to contribute and as a thank you to existing members.
i came across this board when i searched a review for a hair product (cant remember which)

I was going to be a long term transitioner and I needed ideas as to hairstyles and care for my hair. I was also a member of another forum and although I got great info, I found their mantra to be a little to rigid for my tastes...For me, LHCF was the best of both worlds...
