Hair grew the best when?

I found a picture of me about 4 months afer I began to transition. I had my hair blown out to a fro and if I didn't have the date on the back of the photo even I wouldn't have believed the length it reached! When I get round to it, I'll put it in my album.

Funnily enough I wasn't taking supplements, I was still using heat (to blow dry). The only other thing I can think of is that I was exercising regularly and wore braids a couple of times that year. I'm back at the gym now so hopefully I'll begin to see some results

I visited the board frequently and paid close attention to what was going into my system.

More water, colorful vegetables and so many eggs I'm surprised my arteries aren't clogged...

The combination of everything I ate really pumped that hair out at record pace

I washed every two-four weeks used hair grease and I relaxed every three months if that. My did not become damaged until the 6th grade my mom put a new era relaxer in my hair. She used the neutralizing shampoo first instead of last all of my hair broke off so that I didn't even have a ponytail. Then someone at school told me to just brush it back into a ponytail with hair gel, mistake. Then my edges broke off. In high school it got think and started getting long again. Then I got a relaxer my sophmore year at a new salon and it was damaged. I cut it off up to my ears and started over. I cut it even shorter in six months. Then I got braids (individual box braids) twice and had great growth for a phase I mean like three inches in two months. I waited two weeks and then had micro braids put in. I left them in for two months and had even more growth. I waited one year during which my hair grew progressively better. I washed every week with creme of nature and conditioned with CPR although I still used hair grease. Last summer I got invisible braids. Those devastated my hair. I had grown to bas of my neck. After the braids I had a chin length bob. It had broken off so much hair and it had ruined my edges. After that I had two perms that would not take. I started getting my hair done at the local beauty school for free they fried, bleached, and killed my hair. I got the bleached in highlights in september. I did not know that bleach was damaging. I continued to shampoo and condition once a week. Until January when I found the relaxed hair care board at www.ezboard.com.

There I researched protein conditioners, lye vs. no lye, oil treatments, acv rinses, proper drying and styling techniques, and vitamins.

Now here I am 6 months later. My hair is healthier and growing like made. I am currently trying to gorw out and cut out the bleached ends until they are gone. My hair is almost the same length that it was last year when I got the invisible braids.

My hair grew best when I exercised, ate boiled eggs with salads, drank a protein drink and kept my hair moisturized.
I also took vitamins.

Its amzing how lifelss my hair seems now that I have stopped working out and taking vitamins.

Its fuuny but braiding my hair with extensions seems to make it look thinner. It does grow if I braid my own hair though.

My hair grew the best when I had a curl back in the 80s!

Didn't everybody's? Once I got rid of the curl (outta style ya know)my hair never grew past my ears. My hair has been growing the best it ever has since I've been doing (or stopped doing) the following:

Stopped going to the salon or any hair stylists

Stopped getting my touch ups so frequently. I've gone from every 4-6 weeks to waiting for 10-12 weeks now.

Using the same moisturizer on my hair that I used to use when I had a curl. It stops breakage instantly! No breakage helps me to keep the hair that I do grow.

Not manipulating my hair so much. The more I leave it alone the better it grows. So I wear braids from time to time so I don't have to mess with it.

Great post btw!!!

My hair grew best when I first cut out my perm. No longer being afraid of water, I would condition-wash it every day, and avoid manipulation. I eventually stopped that routine in favor of other styles, and my growth has really slowed.

I've learned a lot about my hair recently though, and what did I discover? That I should return to my very first routine, which came so naturally - namely, to rely heavily on water. My hair is responding nicely, and now that I'm focusing more on growth (and less on haircare basics for natural hair) I seem to be back on the growth track.

Stormy? You mentioned about a product that you used for when u use to sport a curl and the spray u still use cause it stops the breakage? What was that product? (yes, yes i knw this is old. im going through some old messages. lol)

My hair grew best when I followed Carolyn Gray's regime to the letter. Because of her I rarely use heat (other than curling away my bangs this past summer!) on my hair. Air-drying gets my 4b hair straighter than blow-drying.

Another time (before the existence of haircare boards) my hair grew approx. an 1" a month was when I wore individual braids, moisturized daily with braid spray, exercised daily and took vitamin supplements religiously. That is the only time in my life I achieved an 1" a month.

My hair is growing now because of this board.

But...

Using braid spray S-curl makes my hair stop breaking. I use it ever other day. It keeps my hair soft enough that I don't have to do it every day. My hair feels like cotton now.

Also taking more protein in my diet.

Just those two things and my hair is growing very fast.

I also wash and deep conditon every Sunday.

One particular time many years ago, my hair grew long down my back when I washed and conditioned it every day, blowdried and used a hot comb on my relaxed 4a/b hair every day! Of course, I knew nothing about hair and although my hair was growing long fairly quickly, it was thin and wispy looking. I attibute the length to the water from my daily washing and to my daily exercise. I did nothing else at that time that would have helped my hair.

Now I'm washing and conditioning every 3 days (no time to do it every day) with no heat at all, moisturing twice (or more) each day and my hair seems to be growing great. For me, it has to be the frequent water, (moisture) that's showing the results as well as the daily exercise. I'm thinking about adding more water to my regime like the spray bottles I keep reading about on this board...

I can identify with the high school thing- The first incident I recall getting a lot of growth was when I cut off all my hair for the first time, down to like, half an inch all over, if that much (couldn't even fit in the smallest curler which bothered me! you'll see why). This was in March 1995. By February 1996, I noticed my hair was back to down my back, around its usual length which was a couple inches past my shoulders (7-9 inches). My hair routine was very simple in secondary school: wash, condition once a week, relax when I could (usually every 2-3 months), and set my hair almost every night (yes I slept in curlers almost every night from 7th-12th grade...i NEVER used heat)
The next time I had a 'growth spurt' was the first time I put in braids in April 2000. I had them in for almost 5 weeks and my hair grew 2 inches (and to bra-strap...the longest it's ever been). Of course a scissor-happy stylist took care of that

My hair is currently all-natural (for the past 2 years approx.) and it's 7-12 inches I think...maybe more...and I just started this conscious hair growing thing in Feb so we will see if I can add another!

My hair was growing quite wonderfully when I was sticking to Carolyn Grays method. Now that I am getting back to it, my hair is looking better again.

I forgot to add that my hair also started growing best since I started coming to this board!

My hair grew best when I started my locs, started using natural products, taking the MSM and kept my scalp extra clean and moisturised.

My hair grew best when I started taking vitamins, and stopped stressing out. I had a horrible diet in college, and would eat only once a day (and usually something like McDonalds or Taco Bell unless I decided to cook which was rare because I was lazy). I was tired a lot and my hair looked dull. So I started taking vitamins as a way to supplement what I was missing and then my hair, which grew anyway, started to look much better and shinier.

My hair grew the best when my mom took care of it....I had beautiful mid back length hair as a child, when I started going to a stylist...it went all downhill from there!

Do u ladies think that DW/DC works alot better with working out, Does working out, bring out some natural hair oils? to wash or wait too wash ? I still have not found what works for me,I cant hold out for 4 weeks

I think my hair grew best buy accident. Even back then I was always at the store trying different products. Finally I said 'ENOUGH' and the only things I had under the sink were:
1. Cream of Nature Shampoo for fine hair
2. Hawaiian Silky Dry Hair Protien Conditioner
3. Paul Mitchell's The Conditioner
4. Paul Mitchell's Heat Seal

I would switch the conditioners every other week. That was it! As they say less is more.

everyday on relaxed hair, that is alot of work, and it grow

, where u ends in good shape?

This past year, starting Oct 02.
I made a commitment to put carrot oil on my ends every night, wrap it every night and only apply heat to clean freshly washed hair. I also made the commitment to relax and trim consistently every 8 wks, (i wound up stretching to 10 wks). Its the best all around head of hair i have ever had. And now I have the Forum. Whoop! Whoop!

My hair has been growing best since:
Increasing my protin consumption
Spraying my hair daily with a mixture of glycerin, water and conditioner. This has kept my hair very moist. I saw it in someone's regime and realized that this was what my hair was missing. I LOVE IT!

Exercising.

Really I can go without the vitamins but I must exercise and eat more protein and moisturise my hair more.

Sorry about the delay Happylocks - didn't see your post!
At that time, my ends were very thin but not breaking off. I didn't really check my ends like I've learned to do now. All of my hair then was kind of "see-through". Now it's very, very thick so I know thickness is my hair's normal state.

Lately, my nape area has been growing like crazy! And I think it's because I spray it with my moisturizing spray every single day and every couple of days, I add oil to seal in moisture. It's getting so long, I'm amazed!

I have not had my hair grew best when yet, I but it is in better condition since I have joined the forum, I really like the way it looks, am enjoying this post too, I am going to try some of these, keep em coming
