If it's sot "natuarl" why does it take so much Mental Enegery/preparation? I don't understand.

Not saying that she was but since I big chopped I would immediately assume that maybe I was one of the albums that she was talking about. But anyway I dont take things to seriously anyway and I try not to get offensive. Its her opinion like she said and I cant expect everyone to like my hair
smile.gif

Yes it would be best for her to stick to longhaired natural albums since she seems to get inspired by those

I apologize Ayeshia for offending u in anyway. Thank you for expressing your feelings and for understanding.

I say that going natural requires a mental transition as well because of the things that are likely to happen once one becomes natural. I know plenty of folks, myself included, who pretty much caught everything but a degree of support when we decided to go natural. For some of us, the only support system that we had was a website. I've been told everything from "you were soo much prettier before you cut off all of your hair" to "that's such a shame that you went and did THAT to yourself". I'm saying all that to say that going natural requires a "tough" skin in a sense. I know that people make comments everyday and I for one, am quick to snap one off on folks just like they did on me, however some folks aren't and they take alot of comments personally. Basically, I think you have be mentally prepared as well. Deciding to go natural and then constantly being told, subtlely (sp) and not so subtlely(sp) that you are now "not good enough" isn't the easiest thing to handle and does require a degree of mental preparedness, IMO.

I agree.

I don't think it's that serious with the mental and physical preparation. I'm not obsessed with my hair or anything but I do like making and having it look nice. I was just venting about being discouraged but I was not depressed, down in the pits, or about to kill myself!

Plus how many people on this board and others BC then get fake hair??

And that makes sense, How?

[/ QUOTE ] To keep this in the context of the thread Poohbear was not talking about not liking those that wear fake hair after the BC...and those responding or felt offended might not wear fake hair either and if they do, they still have that same hair underneath and that might be the hair she said she did not like....this doesnt change the implications

I suppose, I guess it's mainly not understanding how people can take such a serious stance about going back to "Natural" roots, Perming being perceived at being "addicted to creamy crack" then they get dead peoples hair or hair made from Asian people and slap it on thier head.

I guess I just don't understand the whole thang.

I see where you're coming from, but everyone likes a change now and then, and sometimes, it's beneficial. Less manipulation with our own hair. But I would hope a person who wears weaves does not put down people who choose to relax their hair.

Poohbear, whenever you're ready for me to stick a fork in this thread, let me know. I'm having a hard time understanding how and when this thread took such a sharp left turn.
ohwell.gif

And for the record, you don't owe anyone any explanations about your likes and dislikes. You are not obligated to feel a certain way just because others feel you should, so like what you like, and dislike what you don't like to your hearts content.

Poohbear, I am also am transitioning. I have tried before, but I didn't have the patience or knowledge to continue. This time though, I'm ready. I choose to embrace my natural hair for what it is and not for what I want it to be. I have 4a, thin/fine densley packed hair from what I can remember. I choose to work with that regardless. I have been researching albums, styles, shampoo techniques, products and anything else that can help me in my transition. The short styles actually inspire me the most because most of them have grown their hair out to great lengths and its all so pretty. Be inspired and get your mind ready first, the hair will follow.

But you somewhat have a point with that last sentence...
But I think people use fake hair to achieve a certain look, not to help achieve their blackness. In all reality, there's no such thing as blackness...we're all a mixture of different races, cultures, and whatever else u wanna call it!

Karonica, that's kinda my thing. Some naturals, let me repeat, SOME naturals, usually the militant ones dogg people who relax now that they've "seen the light" so to speak and they it's ok to be fake as long as your natural fake.
laugh.gif

But I do understand about protective styles and wanting a different look. That's fine..
