Too bad I have summer classes for the MBA program I am in. I got out of school for the Spring on April 23rd. I start summer school June 1st...one more week! The month of May just started and now its about to end...time flies by so fast.

Well Poohbear,

I think you handled this forum very well. You have experienced a little of what may happen if you decide to go natural. You will find that this is a very sensitive issue. People take offense easily becuz of all they may have been thru to become comftorable about their hair. You did not let anyone tell you what or how to do your hair. You decided and you didnt budge. I hope you take this same approach to your natural journey. One day you may be on the other fence with someone thinking your hair is "discouraging", or your hair is "scaring" them. I hope you keep everyone posted on your experiences of going natural becuz im really rooting for you. I think youre gonna fall in love with the texture of your own hair. I believe youre having the same feelings many of the posters who responded to you may have felt a long time ago. Most of us have had perms too remember. Even if you give it up...enjoy your journey. Learn to love your hair and have fun with it. I personally am happy that you are just willing to experience it; some people cant even fathom the thought. Then you can let others know that nappy hair is NOT that BAD!! It can be beautiful...and it can be styled. Have fun with that hair gurl!!

i think the biggest mistake people going natural do has nothing to do with hair care-but the state of mind. a lot of people look at other people's natural hair expecting their hair to look like theirs, or see a natural 3 type texture (scary spice/keils/holly pete) thinking their hair is going to look like that- and when their hair doesn't they go back to relaxer because they feel 4 type hair is "bad" going natural is way more than just accepting your hair-but learning to except yourself.

I don't think any hair type is bad. Just like skin color, no one can help what color they are just like they cant help what texture grows out of their head.

well, I've been away for a while, and seeing this post has been a little disheartening.

I'm a short haired natural who did the big chop. Is my hair dry and ugly looking?

Oh well, I still think I'm FINE and that's all that matters! Loving yourself for who you are is very liberating.

Some bad apples are not the whole bunch. Maybe as a test to see if you like natural hair you can get a weave of how your hair would look naturally and do the crown and glory method to grow out your hair?
