Dumb stuff (hair related) that you see other people do...

My mom has relaxed her NG while she was in braids!

LMAO...i did that once. well, i removed the braids in the front ran a relaxer through, washed it out a few times w/ regular shampoo, rubbed grease on the hairs and re-braided.

man i would still be a hot, raggedy arse mess if it werent for LHCF.

I see a lot of women walking around with rubber bands to tie back their hair. Of course the hair is broken and damaged.

I used to relax my hair root to tip every 4 weeks.

I used to have a glue in weave then have the nerve to rip it out of my head when I was done.

I'm a lot wiser now.

I was about to run the other day and this lady and her granddaughter were sitting on the bench near where I stretch. I could hear the lady saying 'I wish yo momma would let me put a relaxer in your hair so it wont be so nappy. She got you out here lookin all crazy.' The girl couldnt have been no more than 8. :(

My cousin flat irons' her daughters hair. Theyre 7 and 4. She says its too hard to comb, but the 4 year old is a 2b and the 7 year old is a 3c. Just not necessary.

My sister blow dries my nieces hair. I almost gave them a DC when they came over this past weekend.

I used to be guilty of flat ironing my hair every day. Horrible.

When I used to go to the salon, this lady was running around taking deep breaths becuz the relaxer was burning. She didnt want to rinse it to be sure that it was 'straight'. :(

So many more....

:nono: I've seen this before one too many times!

This weekend I saw a woman with her hairline starting right infront of her ears. But she had the hair pulled back into a TIGHT ponytail, pulling on her already VERY THIN edges.

I don't know hoe my mother does it. She told me she does this, but I cannot for the life of me picture how she is doing it. She is NOT unbraiding. And my sister-in-law is the one agreeing to do it for her.

I sat on the bus behind a girl today and I could see EACH AND EVERY row of tracks in her head:eek: , because she had it separated and pulled over both shoulders:confused: (resting on her breasts in the front). I couldn't help but count them and figure out whether they were glued in or sewn in...it's a long bus ride. I concluded that they were indeed glued in and she had about 10-12 rows of tracks top to bottom...too much glue. I will admit that the hair quality was NIIIIICE:) , but she shoulda styled it differently:perplexed .

My friend used to scratch her scalp before her relaxer to get all the dandruff out.

My other friend doesn't wash her hair the entire 3 months she's in braids to keep it looking fresh. :perplexed P. U. !
...
A lady at my job flat irons her hair in the morning AND at lunch time. I know this because you can smell that she's been in the bathroom and there's always evidence of little broken 1 inch hairs everywhere.

What was your friend thinking. I have a sensitive scalp and know not to do that even if I do have vaseline to coat my scalp with. The vaseline may aid but it will not really stop those chemical burns. The next time you oughtta Spritz her whole head after a relaxer just to teach her a lesson.

As for your other friend, I've been there in my past but I never kept them in that long without washing. When my hair is dirty enough, I have to wash because I will have a bunch of painful sores and a hurt scalp form scratchin so much. I know you hate for this friend to get to close to you with them stinky braids and a stinky scalp and hair. I know that smell to.

I dont know what to say about the lady at your job. How could she not know that she's overdoing it.

hmm probably putting it right at the top and rinsing it out. im sure relaxer gets in the braids during the application and rinse out process and is sitting in there eating away at her hair. :(

My cousin relaxes her daughter's (6) every two or three weeks and wonder why she is half bald.

My other cousin slack a ton of gel on her hair and then combs it into a bun.

My g-ma mixes leftover relaxers and put them in her head because she doesn't want to buy any. This same g-ma threw me on the floor one day and greased my up because she said my scalp was too dry. I didn't tell her anything because grandma don't play. I just went home and washed it. I was a woman by the way.:look:

I really did contemplate telling her, but how could you not know that separating your hair like that is gonna reveal yours tracks? And I also didn't want to catch a swift elbow to the mouth, she WAS sitting directly in front of me. I woulda got arrested on my way to work for pulling out every last one of those tracks and trying to strangle her with them.

I once relaxed my hair while it was braided and then I dyed it that same day:eek: The relaxer didn't seem to take well so I did it again the next day:eek:

 That's understandable. If it was me I don't know if I would've been on hush or if i would've politely told her because she probably gon get talked about by people throughout the day: Somebody bold enough may say something to her eventually. If it was me, I wouldn't take offense--I'd want somebody to tell me as long as it's in an appropriate and nice way.

My ex's sister told me that using leave-in conditioner would dry my hair out and that "our" hair grows faster dirty.

My co-worker proudly proclaiming that she only washes 2x a month because the "water would eat her hair up otherwise."

This woman with beautiful 3b/c APL hair at the braiding salon getting kinky twists when she had NO EDGES. I promise you that there was at least 2 inches missing around her entire head. Actually, everyone in that shop had broken raggedy hairlines. Needless to say that was my first and last trip there.

Two girls no more than 4 or 5 walking down the street with FULL SEW IN WEAVES.

A girl in college who swore "my hair just doesn't grow" as she used a curling iron EVERYDAY to get that cute flipped out look.

I'm getting sad...I have to stop now!

This past weekend I worked a wedding and one of the bridesmaids decided to brush her hair before I got to it and there were some knots in it and she just raked through with the brush and pulled them out without taking her time and untangling them. Also when I got to her hair, she told me "don't worry I'm not tender headed so you don't need to be gentle" I can't help it, if I run across a knot or tangle, I have to work the tangle out :( and yes this was a Caucasian head of hair, and I see that a lot of them don't care all that much about their hair or the condition of it :nono:

Now this one is terrible..
My mother has always left perm on her head (and when she did mine) for at least a half hour, and a lot of times 45 minutes to an hour. Sometimes she even put it through the length of the hair. After realizing on her own that maybe this was the reason she is balding and having breakage, she had this awful idea:
She put perm on her head one day for 20 min. Washed it out.
The next day she permed her head again for 20 min. Washed it out
Can you believe she did it again for a 3rd day? I believe this was the beginning of her wearing wigs/sewins after this incident

The craziest thing I saw was in college a friend of mine (pretty nice shoulder length) let this girl put a relaxer in for her when the girls own hair looked like it was cut with a weed wacker. It was dull, chewed up, uneven, and above ear length (and had been that way for years). Shouldn't a person get nervous when their "stylist's" own hair looks whack?

Ok... be honest- were you high at the time?:D

:lachen: :lachen: :lachen:

No, I was around 12 or 13 at the time. My stepmother use to put our shaded hair in a ash tray and burn it. It would always burn slow. I wanted to see if i did that to my bang would it burn slow. When I put the lighter to the end of my bang the fire went poof. I was running around the house with my hair on fire screaming for help.

:eek::eek: Ummmm........ How old were you when this happened?

ETA: nevermind. I saw your answer.

I was laughing until I really thought about some of these..like perming hair 3/4 times over a month's time. It really is very sad how brainwashed we are against our own natural hair texture.

I don't know what is the craziest thing, but I just saw a woman get her hair relaxed, and I promise the application time was over an hour start to finish. She sat to let the relaxer "marinate" I guess while her stylist disappeared in the back for about 15-20 min. She wasn't burning at all, her hair looked pretty healthy too I'm wondering how long it will stay that way.

I knew a girl in college who would flat iron her 3a/b hair with a clothing iron. It actually kind of worked for her and her hair was never damaged! I'd never try that on my stuff though!!!
