To get the best results I think you should add a yes and no option for each hype...i.e.,

yes, henna
no, henna
yes, baggying
no, baggying

You understand what I'm saying?

Yeah....I was going to do that but then i had all this stuff i was wondering about i was only going to be able to do 5---

So i was like i'll just do it this way.....then if a good number of people do it we can just look at the overall number of people voted and see how low or high each one is :ohwell:

I hope it wont confuse anyone ETA---Probally should have just made Yes to cones and mineral oil and stuff too that woulda been easier....oh well

Girl, you know you have two threads going on this? :lachen:

ETA: OOOHHHH! I get it...you could only put so many items in the poll so you had to do two. :spinning:

:yep:I voted "yes" to Growth Aids (MN). Also, lots of water (atleast 64 oz) and vitamins are important to me as well (Hair Vits and Biotin).:yep:

I am new and this my first post but I thought I would give my opinion..

Since reading this board and BHM, I see alot of things that don't make sense to me at all...and I guess you can consider them hypes..

Seamless comb- I a mean really? Okay so it may pull out a few strands, but wouldn't strong hair be able to handle it? Especially with conditioner and oils and all that ish on top of the strand, the seam probably never even touches the strand itself. Just my guess anyway....

Cones and mineral oils, are not so great for certain hair types. I mean everyone is different so for me, mineral oil on my natural hair is very drying, but when I had a relaxer/perm my hair didn't get dry when I used them. I think it is hype though, b/c so many people beat people over the head about it when in fact for some they may not be so bad or actually <gasp> benefit their hair.

The seamless comb thing isn't about pulling out strands of hair, it's about minimizing the mechanical stress on the hair. When you use a seamed comb, the seam (which does touch your hair) acts like a tiny razor, and scrapes along your hair - removing tiny, miniscule, sub-microscopic bits of the cuticle.
If you keep doing that, day in and day out, for two to five years (which, is about the average growth cycle of a strand of hair), you've scraped off most of your cuticle - which then leads to split ends (because the cuticle isn't there to 'hold' your hair together) which then leads to trims, which then leads to setbacks because you have to cut off the last couple of inches of hair every year.

If you have a short hairstyle - no, seamless combs don't matter, as your hair won't be on your head long enough for the long term damage to show up.
If you are trying to grow BSL & Beyond hair though, they just might cause an issue.

I voted:
No mineral oil, petroleum, lanolin
Yes to vits, protein, water
No sulfates

JustKiya, I was thinking about buying a seamless comb the other day, but after reading your post, I am ordering today!

I use a jibere comb, is that seamless? I laugh when I hear about people filing down combs.

I am slowly transitioning to using all Organix products (the more they put out, the more I buy, the more I buy, the more I throw away my old stuff...) not just because they're sulfate free, but because my hair eats them up like candy:drunk: But until they make a product for everything I do I do use a lot of products that have sulfates and surely aren't organic. However, sulfate free is always the better choice, and I hope I can get to that point where I can do that.

Oil Rinsing is the biggest joke since pre-sliced pizza.
Baggying was cool for about a month. But when all the hair went down the drain I realized it was just silly for me too.

I never jumped on the Ayurvedic because I never felt the need. I'm not Indian so I don't care.:lachen:

I have tried growth aids, but my hair grows fast with or without them. I have half a bottle of MN sitting under my sink I don't even look at anymore. I take prenatals because they keep me healthy, if it helps my hair I'm not sure. Flaxseed for my skin, but maybe it does help my hair who knows.

I do what I do, and I don't do it just because others do. Its easier that way. A lot of this stuff doesn't really work--- the person's hair is already healthy and the stuff is just things they do extra to feel better. Like Oil Rinsing is more of something I did just to feel like I was doing something special--- like prepooing. I can survive without it. Sometimes it actually makes things worse.

I don't banish a product because it contains mineral oil/lanolin, etc...
I don't care about cones--I just clarify or chelate when I feel the need
I have growth aids (WGO, BT) but don't use them
I don't take vitamins
Hate strong protein
I don't have a set schedule for processes (i.e., clarify, chelate, trims, yada yada)

I listen to my hair and we get along just fine; we did before this board, and we will long after! I came here to find inspiration and like-minded people (when it comes to hair at least, to a degree) who actually care about the health and appearance of their hair. I've found so many cool, funny, beautiful women but there are also some hair nazis on this board (hopefully that doesn't offend anyone, but this is LHCF so it probably will...) and everyone is entitled to their opinions, beliefs, practices, etc but don't ever try to berate someone for not doing what you're doing. There's a lot of hype on this site in general which is why it's SO important to find what works for you and STICK WITH IT!!

Did I just whip some with a wet noodle? :fallenang Love you all!!
