Because they rather use heat than chemicals to get their hair straight. What's so hard to understand about that?![]()
I'm guessing some people do it just to avoid the chemicals. My aunt wears her straight the majority of the time because she is experiencing some hair loss. She feels that giving up the relaxer will (or maybe it is--can't remember) will help out with slowing the hair loss and/or regrowing hair.
My skin can't take the chemicals, and in order for me to retain length my hair needs to be straight. Otherwise its tangle city, but I only really straighten in the winter.
so excessive heat is better?
so excessive heat is better?
Why ask why? Try bud dry!
(anyone remember those commercials? lol)
Anywaaayyyy....
Everyone's different so people's reasoning will be different.
For me, I like the versatility natural hair gives. If I wanted it straight 99% of the time so be it. But I know that during that 1% I can wear it big fluffy and curly. Relaxed heads don't have that option.
Also, it's about hair health for me. Less chemical warfare. If I can get my hair straight without having to relax it, then why relax?
No what ever they choose is better. Everyone has the option and has the right exercising it what's so hard about that?erplexed

how do you know the heat is excessive?
I would think people do it to avoid the chemicals. Plus, as a natural, you have options to wear your hair many ways. Why does being natural automatically mean you won't wear straight hair?
so excessive heat is better?
I would say yes since it's being applied to hair not your scalp... I can always regrow my hair, put cones to make it appear less damaged, whatever.... But my poor scalp....
Honestly though, it depends why you went natural. That's a lot of work for my lazy self. I was tired after trying to curl my "bangs" the other day, lol.
Not all naturals have to use excessive heat to get their hair straight. I know several ladies who roller set first, then wrap their hair only using the heat from a hooded dryer. Others can straighten their hair one time and have it stay that way until their next wash.
I'm one of the ones who get's heat damage easily, but the damage only takes away my curl pattern. I'd rather have that than a relaxer breaking my hair to bits.
LOL Good night
so excessive heat is better?
I guess that would depend on your opinion on excessive. If you're natural, any chemical should be deemed "excessive" including BKTS (JMHO)That's like asking is excessive chemicals better...
It's not about which is better, it's all about preference.![]()

I was ready to agree until you said "relax heads don't have that option" OH really? LOL twist outs, braidsouts, bantu knot outs, french braids, cornrows, we have plenty of options if we chose to have big hair. I'm not into big hair. I think it looks awful on me and I don't feel that style suits me at all. Besides, even relaxed my hair is NOT bone straight and is nothing like "white people's hair".
