So how long have you been growing out your hair? Are you one of the wet bun success stories? Seriously, your hair is gorgeous.

Ooohh just BEAUTIFUL! Great job. I'll hopefully work up the nerve to flat iron mine later in the year. :)

Nah I had to quit that challenge lol. I kept doin wash n gos for work, but I do bun quite often. This length is from august 7 2007 to now. My goal was to go from "bald" to waistlength in 3 years, and i think i'm about to make my goal!!!1 waahoooo....where's that dancing banana!?

I knew you could do it!!! Gorgeous!!!! Love that swang!

BTW are you claiming WSL yet? Because if you're not, you need to!

Ha! Not yet, i have 2 more inches I think!!

OP, you're way less scared of heat than me. When I was flat-ironing my hair, I took three steps I've never taken before in the name of protecting my hair. Not only did I start the thermal protection at conditioning level, but I used two heat protectants during the flat-ironing process. I've heard of folks doing what you did. But that to me is BRAVE!

Your hair looks pretty and shiny and long.

Ditto on this.

I've always heard the best flat iron/presses are on naked or nearly naked hair, but I just can't test that theory out.

I guess if you know your hair can handle it...:yep:

I just had to come back in here to take another look at your swangin shiny hair...if you don't mind me asking-what temp did you use on your Maxi?
Did you apply coconut oil and about how much to each section right before Maxigliding as well as while you were airdrying?? Thanks, you got me wanting to' imitate' so badly!! lol:yep:

KCCurly, I'm one of those who believed in this, but the last time I flat-ironed, instead of doing a wet-to-dry on damp hair with nothing but water, I first let my bare hair dry stretched in Curlformers and then taking small sections at a time, I'd coat them completely with a spray protectant and then pass the iron once. So WTD was done with a protectant this time.

Then again working on small sections at a time, I applied a serum protectant coating every strand carefully and went over once with the iron.

Prior to all that I conditioned with CHI Infra Thermal Protection Treatment, using a fine tooth comb and applying and combing through small section the way you'd apply relaxer. In short, not a single strand was left unprotected.

Thanks. I used Maxi on 7. I didn't put coconut oil on each section right before. but right after i added a little bit all over, kinda focusing on the ends.

It's so pretty! It's grown so much.

Thanks, I'm trying to catch up to you!!! :yep:

what temp is a 7 on your maxi? also, i think i'm confused now. you the the oil on you hair after you flat iron or before. cause i thought you were saying you put the oil on your hair and then flat iron.... but this statement makes me think you flat iron with naked hair and then add oil. could you clarify this sesame street style as i'm obviously slow tonite lol

I dunno what number temperature that equals out to.
I just know after the 5, i go 2 dots up.

While my hair is damp I apply a bunch of coconut oil, and part it in 6 sections, working the oil through, then I turn those 6 sections into 3 twists and let them air dry. When they're almost dry i untwist till they're done.

Then I maxiglide it all.

After maxigliding, I'll apply some coconut oil to my hands and rub em together and rub the oil down the length of the hair, in 1, maybe 2 sections, but i focus on the ends.

I hope that was clearer. THe majority of the oil goes on before I flatiron. Then after I just put a lil bit more on for shiny-ocity.

yes, thank you! crystal clear lol. like i said, i'm slow tonite  very sleepy. any who. i always get mixed messages about oil and flat ironing. see, most people would say oil and heat dont go (not like hot oil treatments though) because you're literally frying your hair.

but then i remember an unofficial science experiment someone had posted in their fotki. they got 2 pieces of bread. one slice had evco on it and the other had either evoo or something right. they then put the 2 pieces in the toaster and the one with evco was nicely browned while the one with the other oil was BURNT up!!!! so they was saying evco was a heat protectant too....

but i cook and fry things with evco and it fries nicely so i dun understand...
