Someone help.....

I'm wearing my flatironed, wrapped hair down, but it is see through. When i first get it flatironed, it looks much better, not so thin. But after humidity, perspiration, etc, it draws up and begins to look eerily thin ( i never wanted to be one of those people with 2 long strands of hair)...I have so much hair growth, my hair is bsl, and I hate to cut 3 inches off - again, but i feel uncomfy when i think it is drawing up.

It looks great in a pony, updo, because that center (back) nape area isn't showing....all the other hair looks awesome and healthy...i trim my ends and everything, but still that dang gap is there:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash: I thought about sewing in a couple of tracks in the back until it grows out about 4 inches, but i'm a diy-er and I don't want the hassle with all the cowashes, henna, ayurveda powders weekly, etc...i'm not sure how i would style it???

Any suggestions?

Also, what else besides Sabino MB can keep my natural hair from reverting?

I'm transitioning....with about 9 inches of relaxed hair, 4 inches of NG.....H*E*L*P!!! I miss my long, thick bsl hair......(i'm recovering from alopecia....)

I want to look like "me" the old "me" for my neice's grad party...she's a tv reporter in Nacogdoches, Tx!(Say Naca Wha?!) Woo-Hoo Go Racky!!! Living My Dream!!!

I feel you...

I am not transistioning but your post describes my situation pretty much.
I wish I had a solution for you though. I live with my ends looking see through until it's time to get a touch-up. But I keep my hair pinned up most of the time.

I think the ng makes the ends appear sparser than normal when you have a substantial amount, even as little as an inch or so.

Thanks, Jan,

I'm on the lookout for major hair thickeners...major, not just temporary stuff, either...i hear Biotin Conditioners may work...I'm doing a call-out for info on this., when i find out what works, i'll make sure to let you know....it's like you grow all this hair and then, it's thin...it can make you feel like you are spinning your wheels, ya know?

I know i've got to be patient, but man, i've been dealing with hair issues for a minute now, in it's like, "Enough already, get right!"

The same thing happens to me(I've been transitioning for 2 years), however I am not going to cut my hair. When you feel it drawing up, this the perfect opportunity for a protective hair style
To prevent reversion put, as much moisture in your hair as possible.

You may have to stick to protective styling for a while, grow and cut. This is the method Im using to thicken up my sparse ends. It may take you a little longer to achieve your goal, but when you get there you'll have thicker ends. I have yet to find a product to thicken my ends. I use castor oil faithfully and while it works great at keeping my hair soft and conditioned it has NOT thickened my hair.

:bighug:
I know how you feel. Me too and it does get frustrating.
My hair has improved with my staples (see current siggy and avatar), but thin ends I have not conquered. Maybe in a year as I continue with the OVATION and Wen, my resulting new growth WILL be thicker and appear that way in the ends.

 Charmtreese!

Great advice. I like the protective style I wear almost or better than having my hair out. It looks thicker and you can't tell I have thin ends.

Nothing has helped to thicken except for the OVATION system in my case.

Girl,

I fa-deel your pain! I've been dealing with this the past year and a half. A couple of things I do is wear a flip or just put in a protective style so I don't see the ends.

I'm so tired of ALWAYS cutting my ends with the same result. I could've been rapunzel by now. I've just decided to stop cutting and work around it.

Me too!

We could start a Thin Ends support group.

I have the same problem ever since I can remember. I wear my hair in a bun alot because of this. I refuse to cut off the rest of my hair because the middle back is short.
The middle back of my hair is sooo fine, it's a completely different texture from the rest of my hair so I think that's part of the problem.

And believe me, I have been tempted myself to put a couple tracks in that area to mask the problem.

I haven't found anything to combat the problem yet, but I hope you do.

So, so true!!!

I think my signature explains it all. I've always had this problem. Right now I'm on a challenge to see if I can fill in this area.

I have this problem too. It's so annoying. What I've been trying to do is massage the area with a mixture of Vatika oil and rosemary oil. I think it's helping. I also want to try braiding the area to promote growth. Or perhaps apply a topical growth aid to that section only.

This reminds me of the thread Transition question? Does your relaxed ends weigh on your natural hair and look thin?

Also take a look at this post from Sistaslick where she gives a good explanation of why you shouldn't cut your hair because of the ends and why ends look thin when you're transitioning or stretching.

I haven't flat ironed my hair since I've been transitioning, so I'm not sure what else you can use to keep your natural hair from reverting. I've only been doing braidouts and twistouts.

I'm at this place right now where I will need to cut off at least 2 inches to get my thickness back and it tares me up to do it but I know that all I'm doing is delaying the inevitable. I prefer short thick luscious hair than long see-through thin hair any day. I will be trimming soon after our OCT/MT Sept 1st check-in, just like tt8 did. I will be doing this especially because of the breakage I got from that horrible dry weather in Canada while I was there. It dried my hair really badly. It seemed that no amount of moisturizing was helping my hair at all.

Sorry to hear your trouble with the Canadian air drying your hair out.
I am glad that you have returned safe and sound from your travels. :hug2: You'll get your hair back to snuff in no time.

Girl tell me about it, I wanted to kiss the ground when that plane landed back here at home. I am already working on getting my hair back "to snuff":yep:.

This is the very reason I keep cutting my relaxed hair. It looks so much better and its liberating. No scraggley ends for me. However I am trying out a product now that seems to be thicing my hair. I will let you know if the thickness last in the next couple of months.

I feel you totally. I am not relaxed but in Apr 08 I cut off 3 inches because of what you are saying. My hair is even and has thickened up but if the thinness happens again I will not cut I will just deal with it. So there are positives either way you look at it. And I would love to see a pic to give a more definitive answer.

ooh girl, see my siggy! I know what you're going through. But as sad as I was while cutting it, I felt *relieved* and thrilled actually when I saw how healthy and full my hair looked without my scraggly ends. :)

Sew in a track or put in in braids for a while to forget about the issue. I recently cut about 4 inches of my just below SL hair because it was getting very thin (long story). Now I really miss the length, but I still think I did the right thing. Do you where some curl in your hair or just straight? Having a little curl can sometimes hide imperfections.

What challenge is that?

I have the exact same problem as you, except my longest parts are APL, and my shortest are a bit above shoulder. about 45% of my hair is shoulder length, and just the sides are APL. :nono:

your siggy is actually encouraging-- it seems like everyone's answer on here is to immediately cut off all uneven ends, and it's nice to see that i'm not the only one who's plan is to grow their way out of their setbacks :yep:

Ca-Ching! If if had a C-note for every inch of hair i've cut and Re-Grown, I'd sweep the floor with my stuff, wash it and sell it as wigs (or maybe donate to cancer/alopecia patients)!!

You guys are helping me. You feel my pain:cry:...I feel your love....:love2:

I'm looking into a carrot/okra/castor oil mixture for thickness...then i found it helps with growth...notice the threads i've bumped up!

Ladies, I will find a remedy. And I WILL POST IT!! Who's with me?:amen:
