I Cut My Own Hair- Couldn't Take The Layers Anymore

In December 2006 I got layers and I made the mistake of getting layers in the back. My hair was still "long"-past bsl- but my hair had no body and my ends appeared thin and see through. I tried to be patient and grow out the layers, but I couldn't take it anymore. Last Sunday I used my Maxiglide and then took a pair of scissors to cut off 5-6 inches of my hair! My hair is between shoulder length and arm pit length. I miss having long hair, but at least my hair can grow at the same length. My ponytail is short, but it suprisingly still swings! My hair isn't perfectly even, but it's even enough for me. I probably won't reach BSL until next summer. . .NO MORE LAYERS FOR ME!!!!:P

Since I'm starting my hair journey all over again, I'm definetly going to start updating my album. You can see pictures of my haircut at my fotki album. The password is in my profile.

I know how you feel about layers. I made the mistake of doing my own trims and they didn't turn out so good. Now i have maybe 3 or 4 different lengths in my head

I've tried cutting my own hair in the past and it was a disaster. This time it was easier because I put a rubber band around my hair where it began to be thick and then I cut the thin 5 inches straight across. My hair is a little uneven, but I'm glad I don't have those layers anymore!

You're brave, Blue_Flower. But I have to say your hair looks really thick!!! :yep: I'm not feeling my layers anymore either, but I think I'll wait it out, at least until the next touch up to make a decision. Unlike you, my hair is fine, so we'll see how that goes...

I'm kind of use to getting my hair cut once in a while! It didn't bother me to cut my hair. I actually felt relief!

we must be reading one another's mind!!!! it just doesnt look good when its not curled and takes away from my hair's overall thickness. enjoy your new blunt ends!!!

That's exactly how I felt when I did something similar. It's very liberating, as if some heavy burden has been miraculously lifted! I'm glad you're happy with you hair now. As you know, it'll be back bangin' in no time.;) Thanks for reinforcing all my reasons for not letting my stylist cut layers.

Congrats! I chopped about 4 inches off last December. It's back now. I missed my hair but I'm glad I did it.

Well I'm only collarbone length (a few inches past) but my shortest layer is shoulder length and growing. I keep trimming the back and not the top and middle. It's slowly catching up. Once I get my hair all the same length I will NEVER - EVER get layers again. If you ask me, layers really thin out the hair and my hair didn't like it...at all.

I'm happy for you and congrats on trimming yourself. I'm also a self trimmer. If you look up "trim" on the search tool it'll give you a few posts where I learned how to trim my hair even all by myself.

Yea I cut my own hair a few days ago because I was tired of all my raggedy uneven ends. I was feeling it the first 2 days but after that I was like what the I was thinking. I cut the back pretty well but I tore up the front and now it's cheek length!:wallbash: But overall I feel better than before I cut it.

I will NEVER get layers again simply because of that. The longest lenght of my hair gave the illusion that my hair was still long but with see through ends. Curling didn't help that much other. But if anyone insists on getting layers, don't get layers in the back!

blue_flower, I love the cut it looks great. I know what you mean about layers, I got long layers 3 years ago at first I loved them, but it wasn't long I was working on growing them out, now I just get my hair shap for my face just to give the thin hair some umph. I no longer have layers and will never get them again.

Thank you! I was lucky to find a few pictures of my hair this past summer and I added them to my album. You can see how getting layer in the back made my hair thin and whispy.
