Bleach.. And trying to repair my hair only with protein. Knew nothing about the balance between protein and moisture neither did my hairstylist that i had back in that time. I get really upset when thinking of that period

Me. After I got highlights on my relaxed hair, my journey began. I didn't deep condition like I was supposed to. As a result my hair was breaking like crazy. Now I am transitioning to natural (5 months post). Thank goodness for sites like this! I have learned so much and my hair is doing so much better!

My old stylist from my relaxed days. Smh. She claims she specializes in natural hair and locs. I swear folks think if they press/flat iron natiral hair they are specialists. She put oodles of shea butter in my hair, used the Marcel flat iron and pressing comb-I think they can get much hotter than 450° F. My hair was oily as ufck and didn't revert when washed in some areas. I have been slowly chopping away the heat damage since March 2011. I lost basically 1.5 years of growth dealing with her. I wanted to claim APL this year, it will have to wait until late 2012.

Salon- At the age of 5-13 or 14 my dad would take me to the salon every Sat. I had the same stylist during that time, well my hair never grew. He used to always perm my hair with Duddley every 4-5wks. and that crap burned the hell out of my scalp. He had just permed and curled my hair, later that day I was playing with curls and oh snap a whole curl came out when he would curl my hair I never let him brush it out so.. it was terrible and worst was i kept going to him the next week he gave me the Halle Berry cut, he said "I am tired of burning my fingers curling your hair, you ain't taking care of it"! I was nine years old!
jenaccess like I said he had done my hair for years and I really looked up to him in my eyes at that time he was my hero! I am serious he had that Jermaine Stewart hair style and he wore full on make up, back in the 80's folks didn't do this out like that so...I really looked up to him again I was young. For real you guys I thought his hair and nails were real I was so damn naive I used to get in arguments with folks over his "lifestyle" at that time I didn't know what gay was so..I would defend him. I just thought he liked looking pretty and that was that, I didn't care either way. He had an ex wife so in my mind this was not possible! So when he said that to me about my hair I cried in the damn chair that negro had hurt my damn feelings he meant a lot to me! Just think if you have a stylist in your life you have gone to years they are like family.
Again he was a popular stylist his hair was on it for the 80's and 90's he had it going on in the hair department. He later died in late 90's of the virus although he jacked my hair up he left in an impact on me. Sorry to go on guys but I wish I had a pic of him he was it!
