:( I don't know how either...I am practicing now on my hair so prayerfully I will learn. I really think that I can do it on others heads just not my own...have to have someone to test it on though...any takers

Me, too! It's ridiculous. I used to get a good friend of mine to do my braidouts. It looked so good on me. I used to get compliments from every which way. She moved away and I have no one to do the cornrows or flat twists for me. It's something that I always wanted to learn how to do, and I'm so jealous of the sistahs who can successfully do it...

OK ,I'm going to jump in here. I know how to cornrow and I plain on doing a how to video, once my SO get the cord i need to hook up my camcorder to my computer. It will be in my fotki. Look out for that in the near future. I'm not going to give a date because I really don't know when I will get the cord. I guess I will make a thread about it.

ETA: Not to toot my own horn. I know how to cornrow better then most people. My braids don't start a inch down they start at the beginning of the braids.

I definitely can't cornrown that great either but I found an online tutorial on youtube by Najahface which is pretty good. I got me a dummy head to practice on so I am determined to learn so I can put my daughter's hair up in braids since she is so active this summer.

LOL. Notice that all of us who DON'T know how to cornrow would benefit tremendously from it. I have been to every cornrow help site ever- in the end its all about practice and experimenting.

What she said is priceless!!! I can cornrow MY kids' hair. It is not good enough (yet) to start broadcasting to everyone that I can. In fact, thier briads (I do them almost weekly) barely last a whole week, but I think that it is worth it, y'know? And I CERTAINLY can't cornrow my own hair.

I taught myself basically by practicing, practicing and practicing some more. I started self-training when my oldest (who is now 5 and a half) was about 2 1/2 or 3.

OP: you can do it. I promise if I can do it, ANYONE can!!! Just keep practicing!

I can't cornrow but I've masterd platting and two-strand twists so I do have a couple of alternative options to work with.

I don't know how to do cornrows either. I've seen it get done before and it makes my fingers hurts just watching

i cant, twist, cornrow.. heck i didnt even know what a cornrow was till a few years ago. cant rollerset to save my life either.

I can't and I have a daughter with a dead full of kinky curls. My mom can't either and she had 2 girls, my granny can't and she had 5 girls. The wore long twisted plaits.

I can't yet, but I'm learning.
I can double strand flat twist though for some reason. :perplexed
The only thing holding me back now is parting.
I can't part evenly for any kind of style.

I still don't know how cornrow, and it isn't looking like I will learn any time soon. I think I need some one on one instruction. :(

This is weird. I can cornrow my own hair pretty good (I can make a part down the middle and cornrow the two sides), but make a mess on anyone else's head and always end up doing box braids.

I know how to do flat twists, bantu knots and two strand twists. Braiding and cornrows:nono:

I would love to learn though

whoa! serious bumpage  I remember this thread when it was first posted... It inspired me to learn... After many attempts I STILL cannot conrow. However, I have mastered the frenchbraid! It's a start...

I can't conrow, and I have a 2 year old DD who goes to the salon just for cornrows. It hurts my fingers to even learn how so maybe I am not doing it right. It is a shame when a two year old walks into a salon and sits in the chair like she knows what's up.:nono:

Although I can cornrow everbodies else hair but my own that's because when I was little I self taught myself how but I cornrow underhanded so in general I can hook everybodies hair up except my own because the way my hand are in position when I cornrow sort of like in a akward position so when I do my hair it looks busted. So I have to get others do cornrow my hair. Right now I'm trying to reteach my self the correct version on how to do it, minus the fear of losing hair due to over manipulation.

I can braid others hair if I focus, but I sure can't braid my own. I can flat twist like there's no tomorrow. oh yeah my cornrolls look like small frenchbraids I hate it.
