I can't braid to save my life and I have 2 girls with lots of hair:perplexed Sometimes it seems like a dying art form cause I know plenty who can't do it either.:ohwell:

The bright side is that I just moved close to my inlaws and my DH has at least 2 sisters who know how to......so DD#1 is in braids right now!! LOL

me! ::raises hand:: Doing a single braid hurts my fingers sometimes so I ain't even tried to learn how to cornrow. :look:

This time last year I couldn't cornrow. But I have been practicing on my sis. However I agree, one cornrow hurts my fingers!! :ohwell: I don't have kids right now, but my fiance is talking about 3 kids and if they are girls...oh boy, I'll be learning from my mom. It is becoming a lost art due to all this fake hair and relaxers at young ages. My mom said she never used heat on our hair until 8 (me with my 4b coarse hair) and 15 (my sis 4a). She simply wash, oil, and then braid.

*jumping on the non-cornrowing bus*!

I've tried them, but they are so messy....what's the point of doing them? :perplexed

I don't know how. Well, a little bit, but not well enough to say, yes I can cornrow. It's sad.

LOL. Notice that all of us who DON'T know how to cornrow would benefit tremendously from it. I have been to every cornrow help site ever- in the end its all about practice and experimenting.

ITA. I bought the Braids by Breslin DVD and they have very good instructions/demonstrations on how to cornrow. But, I don't have anyone to practice on...so I still don't know how to do it. I really don't want to manipulate my hair that much so I don't practice on myself. I even bought a wig head to practice on, but it still isn't the same as doing it on a person. Something about the way the hair is implanted into the head makes it difficult to cornrow. Now I just need to find someone who doesn't mind my playing around in their hair.

I can't. Not even two strand twists to the scalp :( Since my hair is getting longer and thicker, even braiding is becoming a pain. Hair gets all tangly.

Hi Ladies,

I do know how to cornrow. Anyone in NY that wants lessons or help with their daughter/their hair let me know. I love doing hair!

That is so nice of you.:)

Uhhh i dont know whether to say yay or nay. I can't traditionally cornrow, but i can do a good underbraid. same technique but the hair is brought under instead of over the row. I don't do it for cornrows, but it looks good as a french braid or when i am trying to do a braidout...

I can't cornrow, french braid, flat twist, nothing. All I can do is plait.

I would give them to you. I love doing hair for young ones, they get soooo excited when they see how pretty their hair looks. I just want to give back. My mother couldn't cornrow when me and my sister were little at first. One of her friends offered her lessons, and she learned to cornrow all sorts of styles. She said it was such a blessing to learn. I concur with her, I've seen pictures of us before she learned....we were a hot mess:lachen: . So I'd love to help someone else learn.

I learned how to do my own box braids (plaits) as a child, then later I could French braid. That's it though. I never got the hang of doing cornrows.
