I'm just learning to do cornrows, but the thing is my hair has to be super nappy so i can grip it. otherwise, the braids come aloose. :ohwell: :look:

WOW! I feel so much better in admitting that I dont know how to do cornrows. My family tells me its a sad case that I dont know how to do this. Honestly....I didnt learn how to wash, blowdry and curl my hair until college( junior year to be exact) :lachen: . Hiiiiiiiiiiii I'm rootdeep and I couldnt braid if my life depended on it.

I know how to braid/plait..... but dont know how to do cornrows or french braids. A shame, really.

Ladies, Is it just me or do you guys realize that there is a stereotype that all black women know how to cornrow their butts off? Growing up in a predominately white area as a teen, I was ALWAYS asked to cornrow someones hair! lol

I can't braid to save my life and I have 2 girls with lots of hair:perplexed Sometimes it seems like a dying art form cause I know plenty who can't do it either.:ohwell:

The bright side is that I just moved close to my inlaws and my DH has at least 2 sisters who know how to......so DD#1 is in braids right now!! LOL
I can`t cornrow either:Blush2:...I thank God that he gave me a boy!!! My daughter would have dreds..

Girl in college I was asked to braid someone`s hair every day( predominately white university) but most of them could braid better than I could..

I can't either! My mother didn't learn how until I was 3. One of my aunts taught her how. I guess if I have a girl I'm going to have to find someone to teach me too.

Does anybody remember there was a doll a long time ago that had instructions on how to cornrow? I remember practicing on my Cabbage Patch Kid (when they came out with the cornsilk ones). The braid was decent-looking, but it wasn't attached to her "scalp" per se.:)

I just got mine done yesterday for $60.00...I would sure like to be able to save the $60.00 by doing them myself...someone mentioned that there was a site that you could get instructions from?

I cannot do it either. I can, but it's sloppy as heck and not cute. It's odd cause my mom can cornrow like a native-born African lady and used to cornrow me all the time as a child. But mine look like Becky from Wisconsin did them. :ohwell:

I also do not know how to cornrow my own hair. However I am determined to learn. Does anyone have any tips on how to learn to cornrow your own hair? I'm not interested in learning how to do people's hair, I want to do my own!

Or can anyone at least give a push in the right direction?

 Right here. I can't do cornrows to save my life. I can do a simple braid on someone else's hair, not mine.

I did try though on my poor, 3yo niece's, type 2, 3 & 4, head of hair. She kept telling me how Mommy did it. I had to give up and send her to her Mommy. It's a good thing I don't have kids. :ohwell:

I can't cornrow, french braid, flat twist, nothing. All I can do is plait.

That's me as well. I can do box braids and twists, but none of the flat to the head styles. I tried cornrows once, and got my hair so tangled that I had to cut it out. :(

   WOW!!! That just scared me from my little experiments at teaching myself how to braid/flat twist!

 Girl don't be scared, just because I'm all thumbs. My sister taught herself how to cornrow. I'm just a cluts with that kind of thing, and to top it off I'm left handed. I can't follow the DVD's or online instructions for nothing. :lachen:

I can't do them to save my life! I also have two daughters with heads full of hair. But my sister can do it like no one's business!
