I came becasue I had a hair cut and I wanted my hair to grow back faster...then after staying on this site for about a month, I did the big chop...ironic right?

I didnt particularly want to grow longer hair but i wanted it to be healthier. My hair was fried and almost every strand of hair was split.

I was trying to regain length and reestablish good hair health. My great stylist sent me for a loop when she quit the shop and starting working out of her home. Nothing personal but her new "hours" conflicted with my schedule. Went 9 weeks and my hair was a hot mess. So I'm glad to be here learning and trying out all these great methods.

Before coming here I was a mess. I wore a weave for about the last 5 years and I never took care of my hair underneath. Now I have been maintaining my hair for a good 4 months now and I can tell a difference with the overall health and appearance. Now I'm working on the growth.

I was on a quest - I just couldn't believe that God would allow everyone but 4a/4bs to have long hair. I knew I was doing something wrong, and I just knew that there were people out there doing it RIGHT!

I'd been lurking here for a year - as you guys are just finding out - but my hair still wasn't "growing". Stopped going to my hair stylist and VOILA! My hair shot 6 inches! (3 inches were ahem... "donated" to another SHS fund shortly afterwards). I want my inches BACK! And I ain't leaving till I get them!!! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I was probably at the lowest stage you can think of. I never washed my hair (I was led to believe that only white folks washed their hair continuously), I pulled my braids back too tight, I didn’t know what a moisturizer was, I allowed scissor happy stylists to do what they wanted to my hair, and I relaxed constantly (at the beauty salon). Once I came to LHCF my hair took off. It grew when I never thought it could and now I have tools and techniques to help me take better care of my hair. Thanks ladies /images/graemlins/kiss.gif!

Let's see, where was my hair before LHCF? Hmmm. :scratchch I used no lye relaxers every 4 weeks, and wondered why my hair was always dry. For moisture, I used hair creams with mineral and petroleum oil. I used Pink Oil (that stuff should really be a four letter word:mad: ) and my hair was greasy and dry at the same time. Go figure. I washed my hair maybe once a week, used a curling iron every day & couldn't figure out why it looked so unhealthy. I also didn't understand why I always had broken hairs on my pillow. Oh, and I used protein conditioners all the time without knowing the distinction between protein and moisturizing conditioners. I couldn't figure out why my hair was always so dry and breaking, and why I couldn't grow it to my childhood length of shoulder length. Trust me when I tell you, it was a mess.

When I think of my horrible hair habits, it makes me sick. With the way I fried my hair, it's a wonder I have any left.

All i was concerned about was looking cute...and for a whole year before i found any of these black hair sites, i wore a weave and would keep them in at months at a time. I would not moisturize, nor wash weekly, i also never used a moisturizer. After my mom convinced me to go get my hair cut evenly and grow my "real" hair out and to stop wearing that fake stuff, i looked around for sites that could help me through my journey. I stumbled on another hair site and later found this site and fell in love with it. :)

I was going to the hair dresser every week faithfully for 10+ years. My hair dresser was giving me a touch up every 5 wks with a trim . It is a wonder I retained any length. It is a good thing my hair grows out fast. I would always be a shoulder or a couple of inches past. Now I am 1.5 inches away from brastrap and I only go to my stylist when I get my touchup which is every 3-4 months.

I was at a stage where I'd learned alot about caring for my hair already with many of the women here including Beverly at longhairlovers.com from 2000-2002 before this board existed. Many similar/same conversations still exist there in the multicultural archives because everyone left that board & came to this one which was more member friendly & secure. By the time this board started, I was well on my way to healthier hair because I'd learned that moisture was key for me. With this board branching out into other very important & interesting forums, it is simply better than we could ever have imagined back then.

After 5 years of being natural I went to being relaxed again. My hair was shedding and breaking and I couldn't understand what I was doing wrong. Searching the internet was one course of action and I found LHCF. Now that I'm on here my goals have expanded beyond healthy hair to long healthy hair.

I was using products that were "destroying" my mane, using excessive amounts of heat all the time, and I was this close to packing my bags and moving to "Split-End" City!! :nono: Overall, I was uneducated and stuck in traditions.

My hair was seriously dry and damaged, and I was frustrated. Those quick fix products didn't work. Hair magazines didn't help.

I used to go to another hair care forum, but they weren't much help either. Since a lot of their members talked about this forum, I decided to peek (lurk) here.

Before LHCF - :drowning:

I was sitting at my desk bald headed with a bald spot on each side of my temples and no hair at the nape with a good looking weave. I was too busy on another board trying to figure out how to take care of the weave hair but not my natural. Do you know that I did not realize the importance of conditioner until I came to this board? My hair is soft as a baby's now and has stopped breaking and is filling in and growing beautifully.

I was Internet surfing and decided to type in "hair care" the yahoo search engine and would'nt you know it I saw this website. When I clicked on it Carmelhonee came up as the new FOTM. That's when I said I want hair just like her's and joined the same day. :)

I came here after extensive heat damage and cutting 5 inches off everywhere. Might as well say I big chopped for the 3rd time. Coming to LHCF everyday helps me stay focused; keep my eye on the prize. When I get a little hair anxious, I chat with a few a you and check a few albums and everything becomes calm. LOL. Thank you everyone for the support. HHG!

I always wanted to grow my hair back to its original condition. But, over time, I just settled for the status quo--thin hair that I let me SHS cut every touch-up. Until I came here, I really didn't know how to reverse the damage done over the years. Without LHCF I'm sure I'd still be in the same frustrating situation.

After a summer of almost constant swimming, sun, and a bad relaxer, my hair was crazy! I was looking all over for new hair-remedies, then I stumbled upon LCHF

I was trying to get my hair to where it was previously...Went to Dominican Salons for 2 years beginning in 99. A "friend" gave me a relaxer when my hair was in between shoulder blades, and after the relaxer my hair was overprocessed , fell out and turned into shoulder length hair! It STAYED that length for a couple of years. I was so unhappy with the condition of my hair.

I believe Falon stated All Dominicans are not created equally, which is the truth!!.. after venturing off to a less crowded salon, my hair never thrived back to it's prior state.
I prayed about it and a couple of days later, I was led to this site! :D

My hair was pretty healthy before I joined the board. I was texturized but mostly wearing my hair straight. My hair had been shoulder length or a just a bit past my shoulders for over 10 years. But I always wanted what I considered to be really long hair, past bra strap, and it never happened. I had long hair when I was very little (ages 4-6) and for a few periods after that so I felt like if it could do it then, it could do it now.

Doing a search on Amazon for Carolyn Gray's book led me to LHCF. I just wish I had found this board a LONG time ago.

I was just trying to grow my hair out, I didnt know how long I wanted it to be I just wanted to get past the length I seemed to be forever. I had long hair as a child so I knew I was capable, I just had NO clue how I would go about it.

Before I came to LHCF, I was almost BSL but had cut it off to shoulder length due to extensive heat damage. I then decided to grow it back healthily and I stumbled upon this site not too long after that.

Me too, but my hair was damaged from hair colors, not heat.

I had the same sort of setback, but my hair was damaged from hard water and the too tight ponytails that resulted from not having anything else to do with my dried out hair.

When I came to LHCF, I had joined Relaxed Hair Care over on Ezboard and got a link to this site. I had gotten some bleached in highlights (mistake) and my hair had started breaking at the color demarcation line, and I was getting desperate. I kept having set backs because instead of building a healthy base of products, I was jumping on the next hair band wagon hoping for success and ending up with tears.

I was researching natural relaxers and found LHCF. I thought my hair was in ok because I used conditioners (always protein) but couldn't figure why my hair broke off and wasn't in better shape!
