Dominican way of doing hair... where did it come from?

I would like to know where did the Dominican's get their approach to haircare? The rollerset and then the blow out.. I love the results of going to a Dominican salon but I am just curious as to where they came up with this wonderful approach to haircare..

anyone know?? :)

I don't know about the rollersets, but I have seen a lot of stylists do blow outs on caucasian hair (of all types) with a round brush and blow dryer. I asked why they can't attempt to do this on Afri-Am hair but I have never got a good answer as to why not.

This is just a guess. Since Dominican hair ranges from 1-4 I think someone stumbled on it from using the blow out technique on 1,2,3 Dom. hair types and then tried it on the Domincanas with coarser and voila.

OR

They probaby always did their own hair like that. You know back in the days women rollerset their hair ALL the time, so maybe one day they tried the blow drier after the rollerset. ??? whatever it was, I like it.

So, let me ask this. Does a dominican blowout include rollersetting AND then blowing out the full entire length of the rollerset and voila - bouncing and behaving??? I also saw where someone said they just only got the roots blown out, so do they do it different ways?

I went this weekend and I told the lady to just blow out my roots only after she takes the rollers out and not to blow out the entire length of the roller. Then she asked me if it would be o.k. if she just ran the curling iron over the roots instead of the blow dryer. I told her that would be fine (was scared of the darn blow dryer anyway!!). She did ask me why I didn't want ALL my hair blown out with the blow dryer and I told her I knew my hair wasn't strong enough for all that heat (too fine) and she said "o.k. I just want to dispel any myths you may have, but can do it to where we use the brush and blow dryer and you can get the same results as if it were rollerset." I still liked the way it came out though.

You know, I CONSTANTLY have to tell them NOT to blow dry my hair. My hair is similar to yours in the sense that it is really fine and CANNOT under any circumstance take the heat from that blow dryer, whether it's roots or other wise. This very same issue set me back like, 2 inches. After that, it was a wrap for me (literally and figuratively, lol)

I'm all for body and what have u, but that process makes my hair WAY TOO DRY!

i'm always at the Dom salon watching in amazment how these ladies get that process done ALL THE TIME with no adverse effects on their hair! (kinda jealous to tell ya the truth)

I will however, be eternally grateful for dominican hair conditioners and treatments cuz they are the only thing that seems to make my hair look good consistently.
