I haven't posted in ages; I voted for my original reason for seeking out & signing up here. I'd just suffered a huge amount of breakage and realized I had no real idea how to take care of my own hair. I felt ridiculous, but I searched an Googe pointed me here.

BTW, I'm convinced my hair damage was caused by a combination of stress, heat styling, and Pink Oil. That stuff is just plain evil.

Before discovering internet hair boards in 2002, my hair was around shoulder length and very dry, brittle, and broken. It was the culmination of heat on top of chemicals.

Now, after reading and researching the vast amounts of avalable info, my hair looks and feels 100x better.

I was interested in finding better/good ways to care for my hair so it could grow longer. Now, I'm natural and we'll see where this journey takes me. Nonetheless, my hair is stronger and healthier than it's been in recent memory which is good and it's also growing really well too. My current goal is 6" in 2005.

Where was I before LHCF?!!! I had beautiful, thick, bra-strap length relaxed hair!!! Daaaarrrrnn this SITE!! haha No really, LHCF gave me the courage to go natural and STAY natural. I'm loving my hair and can't believe I stayed relaxed soo long! I can't wait to get back to bra-strap length natural hair!!

The first two apply to me, but I selected number 1. I want bra strap and my hair has never grown to brastrap, but when I came here, I was also trying to recover from my BC that I had to get after a permanent dye + micros weakened my hair /images/graemlins/nono.gif.

Ditto. I had hair that rested on my shoulders for most of my life but when I came to the hair boards my hair was mid neck length and breaking. I wanted my hair to be healthy again, not ever imagining that it could grow much longer than the shoulder length I was used to. But then I thought, "why not?"

My hair was doing very well, and I was trying to maintain it's health and make sure that I didn't make the same mistakes that I'd made in the past. I know one thing for sure, this site helps me to stay on top of it! :)

I realized that my true hearts desire was to have long BSL and longer straight hair and that didn't mean that I hated my own napptural hair. I was at another forum where that was the original sin. I ronically, LHCF was mentioned there and I was curious so I came to check it out, and found

Hairadise!!!!! :Rose: :yay: :clapping: :dance7:

I voted for trying to get hair to a condition it was previously. I had a major setback almost two years ago. I had a stylist who recommended that I relax every 4 weeks since my hair was so nappy. Stupidly I followed her advice. One day I went to scratch my hair and a handful of hair came out. I asked my best friend for advice (also a hair stylist) for advice and she told me that to stop doing that and to stretch for 10 weeks. I did that but my hair was so damaged by that point (she also relaxed from root to tip) that nothing worked. Earlier this year I cut my hair and went natural in an attempt to start from scratch and see where it takes me. So far so good :)

I voted for the first one. I was trying to get my hair back healthy from overprocessing. Coming to LHCF taught me about stretching and keeping moisture in the hair. I've since started to transition and my hair is doing better than ever.

I voted for the first one. I honestly was tired of the weaves and pony tail and so on. Not that they're "bad" just so much work. Plus lately I've noticed a lot of girls with long hair and I'm like hey I want in on that so here I am.:)

I didn't join the board for hair issues. I had none. I joined cuz it was some crazy funny ****'s and stories in this piece. I came when Honeyrockette and the old Bloossom was here and used to crack up daily.:lachen: The ladies gave my daughter some sage advice and product knowledge etc. She had never combed her own hair outside of a ponytail til she got to University. :(

After years of weaves, sew in pony tails, I decided to wear my hair out.
My hair was being cared for by my stylist and I did nothing between visits. My edges were thinning out and then after I lost 30 lbs. from a diet (Michael Thurmonds 6 Week Body Makeover), my naturally thin hair had thinned out even more (did not take supplements at all).

I was beginning to realize that I needed to do something especially with gray hairs beginning to become more prominent. I had been taking supplements to help with hot flashes so that had begun to help my hair already.

I actually wasn't looking for hair care information the day I found LHCF. I was surfing on AOL Black Voices and in one of the forums I was reading, someone mentioned this site. I followed the link and found gold.

I chose the first option. I had cut my hair off a few years ago bc of damage. It grew out beautifully and was back on my shoulders about a year and a half later. Then I got braids freshman year of college and they tore it out. I had to start over with a shorter cut than the last time. I went to a few different stylists after the cut to try and get it back on track and was disappointed all the way around. The styles were horrible. Relaxers wouldn't take. They loaded my hair with grease, etc. And it just continued to break. After that I vowed to read up on hair care and take matters into my own hands. I read every book in the library about black hair that I could get my hands on. Then I would be the only person at fault for damage to my hair. I didn't find LCHF until 2 years later though. And now I'm starting all over again with my hair.

its between the first two options actually, I was trying to get my hair back to a length and condition that it was when I was a child. I was natural at the time but my hair stayed pressed, but it was long. Once I started relaxing, it all fell out. I've never actually had long relaxed hair.

I had just started taking care of my hair. I had bought the Cathy House book about 3 years ago, read it, and then packed it away. Then in June I found it and read it again.
So I was making little changes like using rollers instead of a curling iron everyday (although I was still using the pink foam rollers with no end papers  ).
I was keeping my ends moisturized - but with Pink lotion.
I had the right concept but was only seeing minimal results until I found this site and switched to better products, and started using the baggie method and protective styling.

Now I have already reached my first goal of BSL, and am on my way to Midback!!:yay:

I chose - "You were trying to get your hair back to a condition it was previously. Either as a child or before a setback."

But, since I have been on here, I want to get past the point I was before my devastating setback.

I was trying to grow it back to almost BSL. A few years ago that's how long it was. Oddly enough, 1 year later it's exactly the same length, but boy do I love it!

Awe man..my hair was a wreck! I had breakage everywhere. My hair was so dry it did not even know what the word moisture was. I am so happy I found this site. Thank you everyone for your shared knowledge.

I always had long hair; but, after the birth of my second son, I experienced shedding and I cut it into a chin-length bob similar to Victoria Beckham's (Posh Spice) hair. I just wanted my bsl hair back (although my ultimate goal is MBL).

i was pretty good at getting my hair long before lhcf, im here becuase its fun and i llove to talk about hair and to make new freinds. oh and ask advice when needed.

I am here after a set back. I had full SL hair (yeah, I know, not long, but it's the longest I've ever had it). My hair was over processed and then cut into a bob- I was so pissed wondering how I could possibly grow my hair back. I attached my before LHCF photo:

Before I came here I was lost but, trying to find my way. My hair had always been healthy when I was in college then I followed someone's bad advice and had a huge set back. (severe breakage, alopecia, the works). I went from hair dresser to hair dresser looking for answers, advice, solutions, anything. No one could help me. I even had one hairdresser sew braids into the damaged hair (so the braid would stay in). I let her do it because she said it would help my hair grow!!!

Anyway, I decided to find information out for myself and came across LHCF and a few other boards. I have been on a HHJ ever since. I have had a few set backs but nothing like what I had before.

I was in grad school, and always assumed heat was the culprit for my lack of hair progress, so for a semester all I did was rollerset. My hair did grow longer to some extent, but by the end of the year it was thinning out and breaking especially in this one spot.

So I did an internet search bc I was like, well what am I doing wrong, I'm not using any heat. I realized a part of it was relaxing too often and manipulating my hair too much, and using too many protein based products.

However, I think that one section of my hair is still somewhat of a trouble spot regardless of my healthier hair care practices. Right now its doing better (transitioning has helped), but I am going to a dermatologist in a few weeks now that I am out of school and have good insurance.

Before I came to LHCF, I was almost BSL but had cut it off to shoulder length due to extensive heat damage. I then decided to grow it back healthily and I stumbled upon this site not too long after that.

Me too, but my hair was damaged from hair colors, not heat.

i was here..whatever this correlates too :ohwell:....

I voted setback -- I had just come out of a sew-in that I had for three months (no washing, no moisturizing.....ewww) and when I let my cousin take it out, I had full SL hair for all of 15 minutes before she detangled it with a small toothed comb and took me up to NL. Pissed, I followed the same cousin's advice (out of desperation) and went to see the Dominicans, since she told me not to get a relaxer right after taking that sew-in out. They got my hair relaxer straight with just some rollers and a blow dryer, and I decided that if they could do that, why keep getting the relaxers?

Four-ish months later, I was strictly going to them once or twice a month and applying CHI Silk Infusion every few days as if it were a moisturizer and flat ironing my hair, despite keeping it wrapped. I owned no shampoo, conditioner, anything -- just a flat iron and a curling iron, and maybe a cheap comb and brush. I was on afrobella one day and she had an article on hair care that mentioned cowashing. Intrigued, I followed the links to macherieamour's site, then from there I discovered LHCF. I was mesmerized by all the long-haired women, and I just HAD to discover their "secrets".

Two years later, I am fully natural, almost BSL, and helping my mom and sister grow their hair as well. (The cousin is next.)
